Do you hunt a particular type of player?
Ozelot (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The most interesting aspect of this game, for me, is seeing people who hunt particular types of players out in the DayZ world. I think the most magical thing about DayZ is that it puts on display, that natural human tendency to kill our own species, as soon as we are able to become the dominant predator along the food chain. And, no matter how 'wrong' some may proclaim it to be, they ALWAYS find a reason to murder. So are there any particular types of players you have made it your mission to hunt down and kill? What are your reasons? Do you think you are justified for doing so? If so, how? -
Hackers are not the enemy!

Running around in the pitch darkness and tripping on a rock only to die sounds like a pretty standard way to go. Zombie apocolypse or no. Lessons learned :] -
Can someone explain the range-finding with the CZ 550?
Ozelot (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Apparently the horizontal markers on the sides of CZ 550 scope can give you the range on a target? I'm assuming this works because the markers will be closer/further apart depending on the range of a target. But can someone explain how to determine the exact distances or what they are supposed to measure? I'm sure I can easily zero it by aiming at an object I know is 100 meters away, but I need to know what those markings mean! So does anyone know a guide or can explain it? Thanks. -
How long have you lasted with broken bones? (And no morphine :P)
Ozelot (DayZ) replied to Thundirah's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
First day I played DayZ I drug myself to the hospital in Elektro with a broken leg and about 2500 blood. I could barely see where I was even going and kept hearing a lot of shots, so all I could do was drag myself towards them while trying to maintain cover so I didn't get shot by whoever was shooting those shots. I drug myself through the city and managed to get to the top of the hospital. I fixed my broken leg but had to wait for someone to come along who could give me a trans. Some guy was nice enough to do so when I asked him. Unfortunately I saw him die only a few minutes later... -
I found someone's tractor once. Drove it around until I smashed it and it exploded, burning me horribly to death.

I want either a good amount of morphine or a good sidearm, such as a glock or m9. Best offer. Preferably someone clanned. You can bring your group so you know I will not murder you.

Poll topic. I think a lot of us are curious as to the reasoning behind KOS philosophies. A lot of people think that it's something that needs to be toned down in DayZ. A lot of people disagree with that and think that it adds an important aspect to the mod's character and that any change to it is not worthwhile. In either case, I think it's important to figure out WHY people KOS.

In a real life situation like DayZ, 'basic' weapons would be very common.
Ozelot (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Guns are rare in DayZ. As such, they are coveted. But, when the player finally does find a firearm, he is hesitant to use it because it attracts attention, from both Zeds and Players. Also, because if he fires his weapon often, he is apt to quickly run out of ammunition. This does not make firearms any less lethal than they normally are-- They are highly lethal weapons that can almost assure the death of who you are targetting. Their range also gives the player a serious advantage. But as stated, firearms still have their weaknesses. Today's real militaries are entirely armed with firearms. No serious military uses basic melee weapons or even basic ranged weapons, such as throwing axes or bows. The reason is because the firearm is viewed as completely superior to these things, and it is true. But in the survival environment that we are presented with in DayZ, basic melee-type weapons have many more advantages: 1. They are easy to acquire. 2. Easy to operate. 3. Reliable. 4. They do not require ammunition. 5. Silent. 6. Extremely lethal. 7. Some melee weapons have other utilities besides being used as weapons. 8. Zombies all engage at what is effectively unarmed melee combat, where range is not a tactical concern. The thing to realize about DayZ's survival environment, is that it presents the player with a completely different state of warfare than he would see in today's world. In today's world, humans fight humans with guns that are readily avaliable, easily supplied, and most of the military operates in an environment where they can communicate quickly and effectively. In DayZ, humans still fight humans with guns. But they aren't easy to find, and people's ability to communicate and create structured military defensive points is completely different. The fact that the hatchet is one of the best weapons to use for a lone survivor who mainly avoids players is proof of this. -
''North'' is more dangerous than towns
Ozelot (DayZ) replied to Bludy's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I never go to Cherno or Elektro. I always head for outlying towns and northbound. The only thing that annoys me is how hard it is to find morphine outside of them because no hospitals. -
32 things you could do in DayZ if you really wanted to.

One thing you will do in DayZ whether you want to or not: Die. -

Guns are extremely powerful. I never said they weren't. But just like in real life, not everyone HAS them. In DayZ's environment, even less people have guns, but they're always going to look for something to get the killing job done so they can stay alive. -
What is the point to DayZ, if not to kill players?
Ozelot (DayZ) replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Why rebuild something that obviously collapsed in the first place? Maybe all the humans need to die and the Zeds inherit the earth? -

Damn, that's a long post. I'll just address the first problem with your topic though: This mod isn't failing. It's growing incredibly rapidly. So you're wrong, bro :D

Implications of the Arma2 weapon nerf - really that bad?
Ozelot (DayZ) replied to tarquinbb's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
M1911 ammo and the gun itself are very common in real life. It's common because it's a really good gun. It should be everywhere. On the other hand, a flintlock pistol would be almost impossible to find. Does that mean it should be the most powerful gun in the game if it was put in? Take the rocket launcher for example. It's extremely hard to find, yet it's mostly useless. Rarity =/= usefulness. This isn't an MMO. -

Oh, I forgot to mention it takes ELEVEN shots to kill a survivor with a .45 now. -
Implications of the Arma2 weapon nerf - really that bad?
Ozelot (DayZ) replied to tarquinbb's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You have no idea what you are talking about, lol. The reason a .45 'insta-kills' things in real life is because the stopping power and velocity of the round tend to produce what is known as 'hydro-static shock' in the body that it passes through. People don't nessecarily die instantly from the shot, but it almost always puts them down on the ground because their body enters a sort of catonic state of shock. They then usually end up dying later due to lack of medical attention. 9mms do not have the stopping power and slower velocity speed required to produce this effect, usually, and because of that people very often DO take full clips of 9mm ammo only to keep on trucking. If the zombies don't die from .45 caliber rounds instantly, then they shouldn't be dying from all the OTHER high-powered weapons in the game instantly. They should require a full clip of anything up to the AS50. -

It does not take four or more shots in real life to kill someone with a fourty five. Do your research. They are supposed to be handcannons. -
What do you mean? I've already seen him. I saw a strange object as I was heading towards Vybor through the woods. I saw what I thought was an unusually large shaped rock. Then he raised his arms and began to turn around, but before he did he instantly disappeared. I haven't seen him since though. I'm not sure what he wanted or was after. Maybe I was about to catch him attacking another player...

Helicopters more common or am I a lucky duck?

I found one and then another about 200 meters away, lol. Was a foggy day too and I didn't even see the second one from the first. -

If Rocket Didn't Push Out The Patch, Surely There's Some Way He Can Un-nerf/Reason With The Devs.
Ozelot (DayZ) replied to Chewbacca Jesus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Have you even tried those two guns? The M9SD has a deeper magazine, and is silenced. You can clear out villages without alarming any zeds by calmly popping the ones in your way in the head. A glock has a deeper magazine and has lower recoil. Their advantages over the m1911 do exist, are realistic, and are obvious.
