Should we remove barbed wire in the next update
Ozelot (DayZ) replied to mattlightfoot's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
No. Just make the removal box bigger. -
Something standalone absolutely needs to get right: Seperate clip/bullet counts.
Ozelot (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Loading a gun works like this: Each gun can take a certain range of bullet types, or sometimes only one bullet type. Guns that can fire multiple caliber bullets need to be taken into account here. Additionally, a gun can only fire bullets if fed from a clip that will fit it. (Sometimes guns can take more than one type of clip, but not often) This is important because DayZ, the mod, doesn't currently account for this at all. At best it seems to account for guns being able to fire multiple calibers, but only occasionally. In fact, I see a lot of guns that can't be loaded with the caliber it takes for some reason. But there is no mechanic for taking into account number of clips that are available to you. DayZ standalone needs to treat CLIPS, and BULLETS as separate items that can be combined in order to load a weapon. The bullets of the right caliber must be loaded into a clip that actually fits that weapon, and only the number of bullets you have in a clip that fits that weapon should equal your ACTUAL ammo count, as in the number of bullets you can fire before you must reload, or change clips. And when I say reload, I mean feed bullets into the actual clip. This should take time, because you have to feed bullets into the clip by hand. You also should not be able to just magically reload your gun with bullets that you haven't loaded into a clip. Let's say I have 45 counts of 9mm and a single 30 round clip for my MP5. In a fire fight, I should ONLY be able to effectively fire up to 30 of my rounds, before I have to stop and actually hand-reload the bullets into my clip so I can change it. If you don't have a fitting clip for your current weapon, you shouldn't be able to load it at all, even if you have the right caliber rounds, except for a single round in the chamber of the gun. The only exception to this is hand-loaded weapons, such as revolvers, bolt-action sniper rifles, and shotguns. Lastly, DayZ needs to account for the action type of the weapon being fired when reloading. Mainly, that if you fire every single round from a automatic weapon, you should have to rechamber the round before you can fire again. Additionally, you should be able to load a single extra round into the gun by doing this. This sort of thing won't apply to manually loaded and acting guns. -
Humanity-What is it good for?
Ozelot (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Problem is, killin a bandit doesn't really make you a 'good guy' just another killer. -
For one, I don't hack. I was riding around on my bike earlier and was mysteriously switched to soldier clothing. "Whatever' I thought and just kept moving a long. Nothing for a whole half hour. Then suddenly I hear machine gun fire all around me, and obviously directed at me. At first I thought I was just dealing with someone who was an absolutely bombastic shot, but then I look behind and don't see a shooter, and he clearly starts teleporting as he's some how able to keep up with me on my bike. Finally, I stop and hope off and he starts shooting nukes or something at me. Still doesn't phase me I just ran into a barn and logged off not wanting to deal with it. So did some hacker magically turn on god-mode for me? Can they do that?

Can a hacker turn on God-mode for you?

Huh. Well if he did I am going to have some real fun the next time someone opens fire on me, lol. -
Does sniping need a nerf?
Ozelot (DayZ) replied to Slickback (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If anything, the run speed of survivors needs to be nerfed to more realistic levels so snipers can actually hit things. -
There are situations where your teammate may be injured in a bad position. It may be untactical to try and heal them where they currently are. The solution: Pick them up and move them. This will only be able to be done if a survivor is incapacitated some how or forced prone. The carrying player will pick them up and put them over their shoulder. The carrying player will move slower and can only hip fire their secondary weapon while they are carrying someone. This gives squads the chance to try and save people even in hostile zones without having to outright stop. Players being carried will need some button that allows them to 'struggle' forcing themselves to be dropped and be unable to be picked up again for a brief period to prevent trolling players carrying people where ever they want.

People who murder bandits =/= heroes
Ozelot (DayZ) replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The problem is each person's morality is subjective. No one player's is above anyone else's. -
People who murder bandits =/= heroes
Ozelot (DayZ) replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No one is crying. I accept every death that isn't caused by a bug or hackers as my own fault. All I'm saying is if you kill, you are a killer. Just like the bandits. That is a FACT. Murder is still murder, no matter how you try to justify it. At least the bandits don't pretend to have some higher moral ground :) -

Ozelot (DayZ) replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
imma have to try this i mean you're keeping them alive longer, so you're doing the right thing in the end, even if you're technically torturing them. that's how a lot of doctors work in the real world, actually xD -
What a hero. (sarcasm)

I'm usually able to collect spare high-tier guns a lot when I play DayZ. Other than walking up and handing them to people, anyone have any ideas on ways I can pass them down to other survivors without potentially landing a shot in my back? Alternatively I guess I could make a big pile on the shore line and snipe anyone who walks up to check it out...

People who run around helping strangers are naive...
Ozelot (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
To those of you that run about giving away free medical supplies, food, etc... I do not understand your logic. What good do you think you are doing? Have you ever heard of the phrase "The best way to help someone is to teach them to help themselves." ?? In DayZ world this is extremely true. By giving away these freebies you are essentially robbing people of the experience of DayZ, the chance to learn something! To do this is actually callous and cruel. What do you think that person will do when you have no beans left to give them? They will starve, because they have not learned how to collect their own. What will happen when it's time to shoot and you're not around to fire for them? They will miss and be eaten by zombies. By also helping one person, but not all, you essentially decide to save one while killing another... This is insane. And for every one person you save, there will be one hundred put down in the scope of a rifle. Your efforts are futile. All you do is put yourself at risk. The man you arm will put a bullet in your teeth. The one you heal will steal your medicine when you need it most. The one you feed will expect more, and when you do not give it to him he will feed you to the zeds. So why? -
I kill anyone I meet.

You are not entitled to a bug free experience in DayZ! Seriously, people. No one likes the hackers. No one wants them in the game. Rocket certainly doesn't want them in the game. But to those of you that want every single exploit fixed immediately: Do you really know anything about game design? Do you know just how MUCH game testing is done and how many bugs a game has in it's earlier stages? Do you realize that debugging is always the single BIGGEST part of designing any game? Considering how early we are into this project, and considering there is not a single one paid tester on it, I think we're doing pretty damn good as far as bug control goes! Now, I know why people are impatient about this. It's simple. It's the investment. People have already had to pay money in order to play DayZ. People invest their own time into it. And they come on here and are already invested into the community. People play DayZ and see it as a full-fledged game. But it isn't. It's an Alpha-mod. It's an experiment. A trial. And so far it has done extremely well and it can only get better. And as things move along, the exploits will be fixed. Hackers will NOT end this mod. So stop whining about how you're going to 'quit DayZ forever' just because some hacker took all your leet gear that you probably server hopped to get anyway. No one cares and we're tired of hearing it! So just sit there and be patient.
