The only rifles that matter now:
Ozelot (DayZ) replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There are ways to figure out range without a finder and without that little measuring stick inside yer SVD scope. It's okay I guess. It just doesn't seem as accurate as the AR-15s far out, even with the zeroing. -

NOT A RIFLE that's an MG :D but yes it's awesome and the only realistic option for anti-vehicle -

Yep. If they're standing still I can hit about 9/10 on the first shot. If they're moving it's pretty hard because of the Een's slow fire rate, I'll probably miss the first shot and I might hit the second one. -
m1911/revolver dmg still sucks. plz fix

That's the best gun for zombies. Not so much players. -
Remove attack helis entirely, or put AMRs back in the game.
Ozelot (DayZ) replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Why are things this powerful even in a zombie game? There should only be transport helis in this game anyhow. I don't care how long it took your little clan buddies to loot cycle other servers and then fix one up on the server you run admin on. If you can just fly it over cherno/elektro with wild abandon gunning down unarmed people with it, why does it exist? Don't mistake me either. Shooting do a heli with an AMR is still hard as fuck but it was the closest thing to easy that there was. All the other options you have now just aren't going to work at all, unless you use another helicopter, but since only one Mi-17 spawns per map, only hackers will be able to take them down now. -

You can't even DENT an Mi-17 (military variant) with the current weapons in the game. You can with the MGs but you'd have to sit there in the open and plink it for like ten straight seconds of direct sustained fire. -
How The 1.7.7 Update Completely Changes Banditry
Ozelot (DayZ) replied to carbine781 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It doesn't completely change banditry. It's pretty much the same. Point, aim, click, shoot. -

i like how op talks tough and gives terribad advice -
Getting shot generally requires one to go to the hospital or being attended by a medical professional, even if you have medical training of your own. You can't just shrug it off for a little bit, maybe take some morphine, and then go eat a cow. It doesn't work like that. Also, how come you can take entire clips from any handgun point blank and still be alive? Not only alive, but still conscious and mostly unfazed.

Bullet wounds are horribly unrealistic
Ozelot (DayZ) replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
yet bullet damage is not one of them in ARMA 2 if you get shot you fall over and writhe in pain and cannot do crap until revived it doesn't matter if you think it's wrong, because other people with basic reasoning skills know what the term means and the process of language continues to function language is cool like that, because it is an adaptive system, not an restrictive one, otherwise we would never have invented any words whatsoever :) but if you want to be strange and argue about it, please feel free to continue to waste your time, you will still be wrong -
My wits. They are more powerful than any weapon my opponent can wield.

Bullet wounds are horribly unrealistic
Ozelot (DayZ) replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
ARMA 2 itself before the damage alterations was quite sensible. There are many games where you die from only a few shots to the body. Hell, in Call of Duty at least shooting people in the body with a pistol kills them quickly. Not so in DayZ. So currently it is more realistic than DayZ in bullet damage. 'Clip' is the proper term, although 'mag' or 'magazine' is fine. Calling them clips comes from the term 'stripper clips' A 'magazine' is also used to term the outside housing jacketing of a cartridge, so I avoid using it as it is a sticky term when talking about guns and ammo. -

What is the point to DayZ, if not to kill players?
Ozelot (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
To those of you who whine about too much PK, I have one question: What point do you see to the game if not PvP in the long run? Is it simply to survive the longest time possible? If so, that is extremely easy: Just get a few tools, go to some corner of the map where no one ever goes. Now wait patiently for your hunger and thirst meters to slowly dwindle and refill them by hunting and refilling water bottles. Wow, so much fun, right? Is it collect incredibly rare weapons and equipment? Why? So you can waste the ammo on zombies? Watch as another simply respawns to take it's place. And honestly, if all you want to do is kill zombies, then camping in a barn with a Lee Enfield is all you have to do. You don't need fancy gear to kill zombies. So, really. What is the point to this game if NOT to hunt players in the long run?- 101 replies

What is the difference between a bandit and a coward?
Ozelot (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Help me understand the difference. I am mostly a solo player. And I'm pretty good at it. I don't often have to fire on other players because I possess a remarkable ability to avoid them, even on highly populated servers in popular places, I often get away unnoticed and almost always unscathed. This isn't to say I've never had to shoot someone before. I have and I can honestly say it felt pretty good. But deep down for some reason I can't shoot someone who clearly poses no threat to me-- There is no honor in it, no gain. If I see a guy at 400 yards through my sniper scope with a crossbow, I'm not going to shoot him in the back. If I see a hatchet player near me, I'm not going to shoot them in the face unless they get too close. But if I see someone with a nice long rifle or with some gear I really want at the moment? I'll take them out. This is where I get a little confused-- Because in many circumstances other people would consider me a bandit for this kind of behavior. But what about the type of players who ask for rides and then end up opening fire on you? What about the players who DO take out someone who poses no threat to them? What about the players who drive around in convoys firing on unarmed spawners with their friends and their Mk48s and As50s? To me these people aren't really bandits-- If they are, they're also shitbags who have forgotten the face of their fathers. These are the types of people who would, if you gave them and another player a revolver and told them to walk 50 paces, would turn at 15 and start shooting. I think the difference between a bandit and a coward is one is willing to sacrifice his honor, and the other isn't. They're willing to risk dying, rather than taint that aspect of themselves. It has nothing to do with what other people think of them, it has to do with what they think of THEMSELVES. They say 'I have more pride and respect for myself than that.' So who among you is a coward? Do you really think you can call yourself a bandit?- 71 replies

Fallout style drugs that have addiction chances and different positive (and negative) effects should be in the game. Some should almost never cause addiction, like painkillers. While some should have a high addiction rate, like morphine. While others still should have EXTREMELY high addiction rates, with debilitating effects for not taking more of it. Drug trafficking should become a professional option in Dayz. It might be interesting if you could even make your own with certain chemicals.

Painkillers just ease physical pain. People take drugs to ease mental anguish, especially boredom, which is the biggest mental anguish of all.
