M4 CCO: <300 yards CQC/multiple opponents situations. Also pretty accurate up to about 550 yds, I can hit just about anything that far, beyond I start having trouble. Lee Enfield/Fal/M14: 100-600 yds, one shot one kill. These are all brutal and can hit up to 800 yds if you're good. CZ 550/M24: 600 yds or more (these guns are virtually identical) I don't even care about the DMR/SVD, they're for people who can't hit the first - third shot.

Does DayZ's player killing simulate real life authenticly?
Ozelot (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think it does. Senseless violence is the number one symptom of the human condition. Killing each other over entirely petty things, sometimes over nothing more than egos at all. Most people would just murder each other in the zombie apocalypse, as they tend to do it in any kind of cataclysm. Many folks don't even really care about their well-being, the desire for self-destruction is a well recorded psycho-sociological aspect of human behavior. The only people that would really be likely to be non-violent would be the ones who never picked up weapons at all. And even there are not -immune- to the cycle of violence, they are just not partaking in it themselves. They will still get shot and murdered in droves, even more so because they can't defend themselves. -
Will anyone else play KOS in SA when it comes out?
Ozelot (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As soon as I've downloaded the SA after buying it I'm going to join a server, look for a weapon as fast as I can and start gunning players down indiscriminately. Why? Simple. We've already seen how people act from the mod, and I don't expect to change human nature by pretending to be 'friendly' My favorite thing about the Mod is the deathmatching aspect of it. Killing people before they can react is so much more rewarding than it is in other multi-player shooters. I just hope the zombies don't get too in the way of that, unless I can use them some how to kill other people. And hopefully there's enough weapons and ammo around to take people out. -

Does DayZ's player killing simulate real life authenticly?

Its' funny you think wikipedia is a verifiable source on these matters. There's a reason college professors don't allow research done on it to be included in class papers. -
Does DayZ's player killing simulate real life authenticly?
Ozelot (DayZ) replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I could not possibly begin to explain the exact mechanisms that makes human beings enjoy the act of killing so gleefully as they do, without beginning to write a veritable novel on the amount of reference material that reasserts what I am saying. But basically it all starts in the risk/reward center of our brains. When human beings engage in the act of killing and survive, feelings of elation and euphoria immediately follow, just as WW described. This happens because we feel we have 'won' and our opponent has 'lost.' That is a simple summary at least as I can give. Whether or not human beings feel guilt by default over the act of killing is another debate and something that is not completely clear yet. We do know however, that guilt as an emotional response is not a phenomenon humans tend to feel until they are pressured by other humans in their social stratus to feel that way. The act of killing has always been looked down on upon in different social spheres, but it has also been reinforced by various parties, especially in nomadic marauder collections of humans. -

You are done. Because you're simply incorrect. I never said I was expert, in fact. I said studying makes you one. You are right however in saying that I am better informed. -

I have studied in this field for five years. Someone who has done at least some research is more likely to be better informed than someone who has done none at all. -

Why do you assume I have done no research? I study psychology for a living. The fact that you make this wide distinction between 'psychopaths' and 'normal' people shows your fundamental misunderstanding of what psychopathy actually is. Psychopaths and as you put it 'normal' people are still equivalent under the distinction of being human beings first and foremost. Hearsay based on what your 'grandpa in vietnam' told you does not make you an expert. -

You say I talk out of my ass even though you admit what I said is true: Killing made you feel good in the moment. You say guilt makes you feel bad later, but here's the thing: Not everyone feels guilt over killing. And are you so sure that guilt isn't just a byproduct of how OTHER people respond to the fact that you enjoyed the act of killing? Guilt is rarely an entirely internal emotion, it's a response you feel from being pressured from your current social group. Most people will judge you for saying it felt good to kill a man, because they don't understand and have never done it. Do you think someone who has never killed would not give it deeper consideration than that? I don't think killing is really wrong. There are many valid reasons to kill someone. And I don't think it's wrong to feel good about it either, it's only human. -

Have you even read a history book? Most 'acts of kindness' have only happened because of economic reasons to benefit the financial and social elite. Most major human rights changes have only happened because of a major economic incentive, take the Civil War for example. It ended slavery, but it never would have happened if the North hadn't had HUGE economic incentives to wage it. And once the war was over, noone tried to help the freed slaves very much. -

That's actually not true. Some people feel bad at first, but later feel intense euphoria. Your brain has a specific part of it that has an instinctual drive for enjoying the rush of killing, especially if you are male. It stems from our early hunter-nomadic societies. -

Cuz no non-kos'r has ever copped the 'tude amirite? Saying I can't brag is basically just saying 'I'm better than you, and you're not allowed to say different.' If I brag, you can brag right back. If you can't handle it, then back the fuck up off my swag. -

Ozelot (DayZ) replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Exactly, mate. I love how people come in here and yell at people like me telling us to 'go back to cod' 'n shit just because we're choosing to become that bad guy who ruins your shit and takes away your pretty l33t gear. The best thing is that without people like that the mod wouldn't be what it is. If I want to try and become a worse monster than the zeds themselves, that's how I want to play, that's my choice. I'm doing it to prove a point: That I'm not afraid of what you're so afraid of: Losing my life and humanity along the way. Try and stop me. -
