Beans should be gold dust; hunger a possibility

what about food and hydration fuel tanks, something that steadily depletes over time but which will ramp up depended on the level of physical activity.... with different foods adding different volumes of fuel?

Beans should be gold dust; hunger a possibility

cooperative play has an unfair advantage because of telepathic comms anyway, nerf food spawns and give fresh spawns a can of beans so they don't starve initially, now this would probably lead to people slaughtering spawns for spawns. Another simple idea might be assigning different nutritive values to varying food types so they stave off hunger for varying lengths of time, a portion of beans, 4 hrs, pasta 6hrs, steak 8hrs etc... and weight spawning accordingly. Provide a reason why a spawn has a belly full of steak and pasta and has twelve hrs to get to his next meal and he doesn't need to start with a can of beans.... beans and bullets should be ultra rare because all ready consummables would be consumed right off the bat. Heavily restricting both would force people to interact, but I still feel comms are the critical factor....

Why is there so many pussy's on DayZ

I think the devs are pretty clued in on what they want to do. I think that a lot of the problems and conflicts at the moment have to do with a tiny staff having to react to a colossal explosion in player numbers... Limitations with the engine may be holding back what they can realistically achieve. I think the final product here won't look a whole lot like what's there at the moment. I really really hope they don't get steamrolled by a commercial publisher into becoming the next big thing in PvP.

Why is there so many pussy's on DayZ

... that would split the project... and lead to two different end products... and ultimately what may have to happen as the two communities at the moment seem to be unwilling to reconcile their differences...

Why is there so many pussy's on DayZ

and if there exists as you say a group of "carebears that want to change this game into an instanced, SMORPG, that caters to their "boohoo."", who are you to deny and ridicule their opinion and contribution. From what I can see the "real players that accept that this is the best PvP game ever with a strong/challenging (somewhat) PvE concept." have hijacked a project that accidentally stumbled across their path. Go read what the devs have said they originally envisioned for the project.

NicraM, Do you accept that there are two distinct groups of people with wholly seperate goals participating in this project?

Why is there so many pussy's on DayZ

and we degenerate into name calling..... I've consumed every sort of PvP game since the genre began and they've all been the same meal with a slightly different flavour. The only thing that's changed is the fidelity of the environment. With DayZ for the first time in a generation there's a chance to transcend the genre.... You don't seem to get that I LIKE PvP and think it's crucial to project, just that this project shows that there's a genuine oppurtunity here for more.....

and that's the problem. because you can't/won't read past that point, you show yourself to be completely unwilling to acknowledge any other opinion but your own. I've said again and again, and everyone who's agreed with me has said, that we see your point. we appreciate your point. you won't even read ours???????????????????????????????

Why is there so many pussy's on DayZ

I'm going to repost what I wrote earlier because i really don't think its gotten through yet.... please read it, and consider it for more than two seconds before responding. For those of you that came here searching for a new interesting game mechanic, and are enjoying the mechanic as it exists, realise that there are those of us here who see this as an honest oppurtunity to break away from that model and genuinely invent a completely new genre of simulator software. It's not that we don't recognise your point, just that we're getting crushed by the volume of people and the gaming mentality being ported over from other "games".

and to follow up, I really hope the devs remain true to the concept and resist the market pressures that the cod kiddies are exerting here... for once in a generation of computer gaming there is a chance to attempt something genuinely new here, and it might be getting crushed... Ideally i'd like to see the devs provided with some actual technological support so they don't have to code the bug fixes by themselves.... and could concentrate on the direction of the project...

That doesn't mean that the debate wasn't interesting. I decided the same fairly early on, but the interactions were worth the read.
  20. Damage and realism. Do you know what actually causes instant death in a human? Catastrophic shock to the central nervous system (brainstem headshot). Most other physiological pathways to ultimate death involves either bloodloss or cns deprivation of oxygen. And all of them take an amount of time relative to the nature of the injury. Granted, various factors will induce shock with varying degrees of disability (unconsciousness, low bp and its side-effects, etc. etc.). Now if I shoot you 20 times in the lower leg with an assault rifle and you (or someone nearby) quickly applies a tourniquet, then that will massively increase the survivability of the injury. Now logically with realism as a goal, what is required here, is bullet pathing and damage multipliers. Guns should give a really low damage number. Where they impact upon the body and it's multiplier decides final damage quantity and arbitrary effects (shock, unconsciousness, pain, and rate of sustained bloodloss). This should be the goal for realisms sake, and could be coded into the engine. I question however whether my argument here is completely outwith the scope of the required accuracy of the environment...

Why is there so many pussy's on DayZ

whoa some thread. The core problem is that the OP doesn't get that this isn't a game. And was never intended to be a game. It was intended to be a simulator to explore emotional reaction. You can't bring game mentality into a simulator. That his "game"play is ruining anothers simulation just goes to show that there are truly two completely different communities and cultures here clashing at a truly basic level. They don't have the language to relate to each other. I truly think that on a fundamental level, people involved in this experiment can be broken into two distinct groups. Players and Participants. And here I think the language is extremely important in defining the issue. A player perceives the environment as a game to be won or lost. This allows for a style of interaction that would only be seen to be psychotic in any real world situation, and attaches or detaches by choice part of his natural persona. A participant perceives the environment as an area to be shared for good or ill with it's population. This commits one to the environment on a much more emotionally basic level where one can't escape the emotional crossover. I think the participant group are here searching for a more meaningful virtual existence and have transcended from regular gaming models. That the player group can't relate is a problem. One that's threatening, in my opinion, the goals of the development team.
  22. Do people not get that there is no differentiation to made here between PvP and PvE. The participants ARE the environment, and vice versa?
