After dying to hackers at the end of last video, I meet up and regear with Oliver. We then go looking for either loot or trouble. We find trouble...

Dark Dayz - Bad Decisions and Sniper Hunting
macscottie replied to macscottie's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
Thanks guys. A couple of things for those that are curious: Yes I'm ex-military - US Army for 7 years. But more to the point, I'm in an ArmA 2 USMC Realism Unit(hence the in-game name of 2ndLt Drumheller). It's the 15th MEU Realism Unit. We use real military tactics in the unit, so when we play together in DayZ, it all carries over. That's why I refer to our group as the 15th ZAU when we're playing DayZ. 15th Zombie Apocalypse Unit: -
After the Battle on Sniper Hill, I meet up with my buddy Dylan. We decide to go loot Elektro since he hadn't seen as much action as I had for the session. What follows is... well... interesting. At least there's a good long firefight. Hope you enjoy!

Dark Dayz - Hackers, Glitches, Hypocrites
macscottie replied to macscottie's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
To be fair, the world on fire bug is a vanilla arma bug that's 3 years old. The hacking... I don't know what can be done. I've died 3 times to hackers in the past 3 days. Before that I had only died to a hacker once. Very frustrating, and probably not something Rocket can fix by himself. -
After a choppy start, I come upon a protracted battle on the "Sniper Hill" overwatching Elektro. Not one to let a good battle go to waste, I jump right into the middle of it.
-
No idea. I've been playing ArmA for over 3 years so I see a radio and I take it.

After dying at the end of the tutorial I made, I re-gear and go looking for a fight in Cherno. Then I move up north to Stary Sobor and finally find my first helicopter that actually has some gear left in it. Cool Story: After the end of the video, my friends kill a guy that ends up having an AS50 in his backpack. So I take it. Next time I log on, The following has happened: All of my M14 mags were gone(I got an M-14 AIM looting Stary after the end of the vid). My AS50 has been replaced with the old Draugnov SVD, which would be fine, but instead of replacing the AS50 mags with Draugnov mags, it let me keep the AS50 mags. So I had to dump the draugnov because mags for it are pretty much non-existant. So I had to dump both my draugnov AND my M14 and I ended the day with an AK74. /sadface

Take your pick: My first significant death to a player: or dying to hackers:

Under 9000 health and zombie's "random" super-punch.

I personally think you should only get knocked out or a broken bone when you're under X blood. 6000 is what I think, but maybe higher, maybe lower. -
DayZ Gameplay Tutorial - Beginner Guide with Tips - Stealth, Nighttime, Daytime
macscottie replied to macscottie's topic in New Player Discussion
Thanks for all the support guys. :) Oh, and please stop throwing your beans at my genitals :( I think that what I'm going to do is make an "update" video every time things change, instead of just re-making the whole tutorial every few months. Maybe once there is a serious overhaul/update I'll make another full tutorial. Oh yeah, everything lined up so perfectly for me making this tutorial. From the order in which I found weapons: axe then a Lee Enfield, to finding a decent pack, to the encounters I had(the PvP at the tents), down to getting shot at the end. It was all taken in one single play session and I don't think it could have gone much better... other than the dying at the end, but hey, that's DayZ. -
DayZ Gameplay Tutorial - Beginner Guide with Tips - Stealth, Nighttime, Daytime
macscottie replied to macscottie's topic in New Player Discussion
Yep I was gonna go over chemlights and flares, but I didn't find any of either until I switched to the daytime server, and by the time it was night again, all I had was the flares! Oh well. :P At least I got flares, but I didn't go over picking them up and carrying them. Damn I just thought about that >< Oh well I'll maybe make another one in a couple of months when the game is completely updated and different again. -

We make our way from the NW Airfield down to Stary in search of some slightly better weaponry when we come under sniper fire.
-
Get tired of sniping with the AS50. Decide to do some CQB with it...
-
In my last video I acquired an AS50... with an Axe... I have another AS50 video after this, but I'm more than likely going to give it up because shooting people with it is only fun for a couple of hours when they don't shoot back. So standby for more adventures in Cherno and Elektro while actually in the city with small arms.

Can we either have a static clothing color or be allowed to select the color permanently?
macscottie posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
As of now, clothing color is client side, and it changes every time you log in. That means if I happen to see myself wearing the all black clothing/armor with dark green pants, someone else can see me in a bright white shirt and blue pants. This affects the ability to use camoflague/concealment properly. If I'm in black and green and get in a green bush, then I think I'm safer than usual, but someone else that sees me in the white shirt through the bush because it stands out so badly completely negates my choice for concealment based on what I'm wearing, because it's not what THEY see me wearing. So to this end, can we either have a selection when we spawn a new character as to which color scheme we can wear? Or alternatively, since 99% of the people are going to choose the black/green combination, can that just be made the default for the reasons I explained above? Or lastly, can all of the camo clothing simply be switched to different, dark color schemes of black, brown, dark green, dark grey, dark tan, etc...? Thanks, -Jester -
I die to a bug in game(I get squished by a wall) in Elektro. As I head back to my body, my friends get surrounded in the building that I died in. I decide to act as a distraction outside so my friends can exit the building and kill the guys that are trying to kill them... But I end up doing something much, much better... With a huge surprise at the end.

I've been getting some flak over shooting the unarmed guy in my last DayZ video. While I don't normally kill those that are unarmed, I was in the middle of a firefight. I said afterwards that I felt kind of bad about it, and that's it. I only felt KIND of bad about it. The people who have been watching my videos from the beginning know why I kill remorselessly now, but for those that don't, watch this video. I had to slowly learn over the course of about 2 months that there is no place in Day Z for friendlies. Everyone I come across is trying to kill me, or will be soon. So if I see you in game, there's about a 95% chance that I'm going to shoot you within 5 seconds, leave the area, or figure out a way to maneuver around and shoot you within a couple of minutes. Welcome to Day Z.

Thanks man. Here's the next one. Still in Elektro(I think most of my videos will be there or in Cherno for a while):

My new friend decided to get Day Z, which is always cool, but I was on the NW airfield when he first started. Well since we're friends, I ran ALL the way to Cherno to meet up with him. While I was moving through Cherno, I saw very very few zombies, so I figured we would be okay to shoot. We meet up in the middle of Cherno and I give him a gun, and we loot some of the cafes since Cherno seems to be mostly abandoned. While were looting, another friend joined up with us. The friend had a FN FAL, and I had an M14 Aimpoint. Two very loud guns. He shot a survivor that was being eaten by Zeds to put him out of his misery and we decided to move away. No significant Z reaction despite the fact that we both shot our loud guns. As we move away, we hear makarov fire from behind us. "Do we want to kill him? All he has is a makarov..." I say. "When in Cherno..." he says. So we move around and get on the capitol building rooftop. We spot him after a minute. He's in another cafe across the street from us. We watch him and kill him as he exits the cafe. I fire 3 shots from my M14 and my friend fires 2-3 from his FAL while the "new guy" watches our backs. That's when the shitstorm starts. Every. Single. Fucking. Zombie in Chernarus hears the shots. In no time flat our building is completely surrounded. They're pissed, and they're hungry. We decide to try to hide on the rooftop and hope they'll go away. 2min pass... 5 min... 10 min... They haven't left. We scout around the rooftop to try and think about our options. I see an opening to get off. All the Zs are on the other side of the building and the ladder on our side is mostly clear. We go for it. We don't even make it halfway down the ladder and those fucking Zs go "We may be dead, but we're not stupid." and swarm us. Me and the other veteran survivor make it off the roof and make a mad dash for it, taking about half the horde with us. New guy thinks he's going to get eaten, so he crawls back up the roof. We run for about 2-3 minutes with ~20 zeds on our heels, and we manage to lose them in an industrial complex. The vet wants to go loot the fire station, but I want to save my friend. I make my way back to the capitol building and fire off 5-6 shots at the horde still surrounding it. I kill 4-5 Zs and I think I attracted them all, so I take off and run back through the industrial complex and manage to lose the Zeds chasing me. Unfortunately, I didn't get them all, but my friend decides to make a break for it off the roof, and of course instantly gets his leg broken. I try to make my way back to him to save him, but he bleeds out from being eaten before I can even make it halfway back:

I am lucky(or unlucky, depending on how you look at it) enough to start right at Balota Airfield on my new life. This provided me a great opportunity to gear up quickly... if only any gear there had spawned... In this video something happens that's never happened to me before in Day Z.

Good Dayz to Die - 4: After getting blown up by the satchels in 3.5, I do the standard re-gearing. I run around for a while and acquire a revolver and Lee-Enfield, then upgrade that to an AK-74 with dot sight. We first decide to go to a church where my mates have discovered a large backpack for me. We create a human Zombie Grinder, but someone gets caught in the "crossfire". Then we decide to go to the airfield... and get into two lengthy firefights.
