Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.
ruarz replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Were this to be an entire thread on a single suggestion that had already been covered, this would be a valid point. But what we have here is a huge number of suggestions, some covered, some not, but all written with regards to the standalone product rather than the mod. -
Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.

I stand corrected on the open world side of things, I had no idea it could handle that. While researching I stumbled across "Class 3" which is apparently an open world zombie MMO which will run on CryEngine3. But the last company who applied for it were offered it at $1.2 million. Every company who applies for a license has to sign a non-disclosure agreement, so its not crystal clear exactly how much it costs. Regardless BI is now promoting the Day-Z standalone so its pretty much certain it'll come out on a BI engine, most likely the Virtual Reality Arma III engine. Additionally Rocket and team have their experience with the BI engine. I would love to see Day-Z with CryEngine3 but the chance of that happening is nil. -
Slowly compiling a standalone suggestion thread here, taking the best and most desired requests, tidying them up and organizing them. If you've got any suggestions or want to take a look head on over :)

So far pretty much everything in this thread is from me. I don't necessarily claim to be the first person to come up with these ideas but I've reeled all of them off the top of my head. Nothing has been copied from another suggestion thread. So far I've changed the vehicles section in response to feedback as I was getting a bit carried away. Wtfosaurus also mentioned a generator which has been put in, although rocket had already mentioned this in an interview. It's not built for open world I'm afraid. And it also costs $1.2 million to license for commercial use. -

A petrol generator would be awesome :) it'd add another reason to go and get fuel, eventually petrol stations might become contested zones between organized groups. I'll be adding this to the list... :) -
I made a standalone suggestion thread quite a while ago, hopefully now it can see some use. Inventory UI mock ups included :) can be found here

Just a system whereby you could swap various goodies with another player for a vehicle. Of course nothing would stop you from shooting him in the head and taking it :) Camoflage and concealment section added :) Ground deformation would be needed for the holes, its a big ask but it would be fantastic if they pulled it off well. Thanks :) -

I actually agree with the first post. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Day-Z, but development seems to have stagnated and people are getting bored. Our group has everything, helicopter, high grade weaponry, coyotes, NVGs, rangefinders, GPSs, and there is nothing to do apart from sit on a hill and shoot people. On top of that there is a ton of bugs, the problem of Alt+F4ers, and hackers who continue to waste everyone's time and server hoster's money.

Thanks for your feedback. With regards to that list of vehicles, yes its a bit OTT. :) I did stress that there's no way you could have that much shit on a small server/map. Thanks! :) -

Use the jerry can to contain 20 litres of petrol. Use whiskey bottle, petrol and rag for a molotov. -
Ideal patch in the next week: Ammo amounts fixed :beans: Graphical artifacts sorted :beans: Ammo conversion improved (MP5, M9, G17, PDW) (FN FAL, M14, DMR, M24, Mk 48, M240) (M249, L85, M16, M4) :emptycan: Damage revised :emptycan: Choppers back in full :emptycan: Alt F4 prevention implemented :emptycan: Duping is currently crazy! I appreciate it can't be entirely fixed in the mod, but it used to be a lot better than this! :emptycan: Ideal improvements in the next month: Quote from Rocket "1.7.2 is progressing well. Significant performance improvements, weather affects stealth, new weapons, more melee. More updates soon" More weapons yet to be seen. Please focus on low to mid end weaponry. May I suggest some more handguns, like the CZ 75, Tokarev TT, USP.45, Sig P226 and Browning High Power as well as some revolvers. Some more AK-47 variants would be both fitting and appropriate. I think there needs to be a greater focus on civilian weaponry, especially some more melee items, such as machete's, sledgehammers and knives (hunting knife?). A better zombie aggro system and better zombie behavior. They should walk towards the sound of the shot and then on confirming a player's location attack like crazy. To compensate for their slower reactions the audible range of weapons should be greatly increased. A zombie IRL would be able to hear a shot from hundreds of metres away. Currently there appear to be two state of zombie awareness, completely oblivious, and really pissed off. Should be replaced with completely oblivious, inquisitive, alerted, and really pissed off. Some more late level content. Especially content focused around cooperation and teamwork. Ideal improvements in the next year: My thread here:

The combination of limited ammo and these super-powered zombies which take a mag of pistol rounds to kill is going to be too deadly for most. Would like to see the damage revised soon.

Server-side Hotfix 0.7.2, Helicopter status and server info
ruarz replied to Vipeax's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Our's was on Skalitsy too, we had a great night of play getting it. Got attacked by some server hoppers but they didn't manage to stop us. Over the evening we killed 5-7 players and only one man of ours went down. We now have a shiny heli to show for it :) -
As an additional point I think there needs to be MORE content for high end players. It needs to be difficult to acquire and hard to find but it needs to be there. Currently I can't see a single way to improve my load-out, I have absolutely everything, NVGs, Rangefinder, GPS, Ghille, SVD Camo, M4 SD, Grenades, the lot, and with no helis a f***all else to do I'm just going round the map killing players. More high-level content and base-building would mean less banditry and more cooperation.
-
No. My community has spent hundreds of man hours acquiring NVGs, Rangefinders, Coyote Backpacks and high end weaponry in a legit way. Just to have them wiped in a total reset would be a complete waste of our time. I'm not alone in saying this, there are hundreds of groups out there who play legit. At the same time I would like to see more low end weapons and have the high end weapons become more rare.

My group looking for some now, anyone else found any?

Missing limbs would be awesome. Have you seen how it works in VBS2? -
Are we fighting infected here or undead? If they're infected then they can run fast and w/e but need to die as if they were human. A single .45 round in the middle of the chest would kill almost anyone. This change isn't making the game that more more difficult, just a lot less immersive. +1 to changing the damage back. To compensate I don't even mind making the players a bit weaker or the zombies more deadly. Just don't make me have to turn a zombie into a colander before it dies.
-
Its funny because IRL this is one of the most accurate assalt rifles about. Never used one but someone in my community has one.
