All the code in the original post seems to have died, can someone kindly explain how this happened and how to fix it? Okay and we're all good again :) -

I completely get where you're coming from and many people have expressed a similar opinion. This I why I have put in a sidenote asking people take what individual ideas they will from the medical suggestion section, but of course nobody expects it to be fully implemented. -

Apparently there's a limit to the number of quotes you can put in a post so I had to convert the community suggestions bit into bullet points. Also put an extra line in the "A Revised Health, Status and Wounding System" in acknowledgement of the feedback saying it is too detailed. -
*OFFICIAL* What Features Would you like to see in DayZ? (Reddit)
ruarz replied to tsmhicks's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This thread is perfectly adequate. As was said above: By all means feel free to start your own thread though :) But since when was it *OFFICIAL*? ;) -

Minimalist HUD sounds good but the inventory system needs to be detailed :) -

The colour's not too much of a problem as long as you can still make the text out, It still reads well without different coloured headings :) -

It looks like the development will follow the Minecraft model, which indicates it will start out pretty basic but they'll quickly add a huge range of features as development progresses :) -

Currently they are way too easy, way too predictable in spawning and behaviour, and way too common. Zombie encounters should be slightly rarer but far more deadly. -

The game is certainly about survival. The word survive/survival/survivor appears four times just on the dayzmod.com first page. Although I would probably agree that the realism side of it could be taken too far. Yeah, a 50.cal and probably an AK would kill anyone but 5.56mm often passes straight through. When firing 9mm pistol rounds it would be pretty important to hit something vital. As for the loss of limbs, I was thinking of it more for the zombies than players. I think items should have varying degrees of condition of repair, not just limited to boots. The condition of an item would be an important consideration in any survival situation and yes, this would give an incentive to continually scavenge. -
I streamlined the standalone suggestion thread a bit. It should make for much more pleasant reading now :)

In light of some of the suggestions here about revising the medical system I've completely redone and massively expanded the "A Revised Health, Status and Wounding System" section :) -

Nice picture. Multi-stage wound treatment for more serious injuries would be great. ATM leg fractures occur far too often. It's also unrealistic that they be treated with morphine. I think the whole morphine thing should be revised. It shouldn't treat wounds, rather act as the strongest form of painkiller. Then the whole pain system would need revising too :) -

Well that's why you can bind items to certain keys so they're available to you more readily. You should make sure you're in a safe place before rearranging your gear and just like IRL, if your gear is ordered well you'll be able to find what you're looking for more quickly. It might well save your life :) -
Please, DONT add a bandit-indicator in this patch
ruarz replied to JulieMeyers's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Not personally in favour of bandit indicators but I don't mind them trying a mechanic out and seeing it works. -

I agree with more weapon variety, but make military weapons far more rare than their common civilian counterparts. -

I'm personally undecided on the issue. Losing skills on death would be one way to combat grinding. But every time someone suggests skills in general in a separate thread it gets brutally shot down so I won't add it to the list :P -
I'm afraid to say defib is for cardiac arrest victims, not for gunshot trauma or zombie related wounds. Besides a defib doesn't mean you will survive cardiac arrest. Estimates vary from 30-75% survival rate from cardiac arrest, with a defibrillator. I guess the statistics depend on where you in the world are and how quickly it is delivered. There is only a 15% survival rate cardiac arrest treated with basic CPR. I guess it depends what degree of realism you're going for. My personal opinion is it doesn't fit. If you're dead you're dead. Death needs to be something to be feared and avoided. But as it's been pointed out above, since when did morphine fix broken legs? :)

A small part of me is in favour of some subtly implemented skill/leveling system. If you can do something but someone else can't it would encourage cooperation. Perhaps if you die you retain your skills but not your gear, perhaps not. If anything at all I think it should just be left up to skills, a classes or profession system wouldn't fit. What sort of character you are would be determined by how you play rather than a preset. The other part of me says HA. No. I'm an original Arma player, what is this World of Warcraft? Do we really want to reward people who sit at home grinding skills and leveling, or do we want to reward skilled players who use tactics and cunning? Do we want the game to be dominated by shitty little kids and people who can't be arsed to work, who have huge swathes of spare time in which to repeatedly kill cows? What about those who can only grab an hour or so after work? The skills should be inherent in the gameplay as it is a skill based game. As a side note Rocket has said in interviews he's currently not in favour of skills, leveling or classes. So I guess my ambivalence is irrelevant. -

The Radio is currently a placeholder item in the mod. Finally we have some sort of use for it! :) I'll add a new section for radios and hopefully we can expand it and see what people think.
