What goals do you set for yourself?
tajin replied to flacracker's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Main goal is rather simple: "stay alive" A good secondary goal could be: "stay civilized" (harder than you might think, in a situation like that) And whatever else works for you. -
OP... you talk about how there should be repercussions. It is up to the players to make sure there are repercussions. If it turns out that some bandits keep murdering players. Team up with a few others and go after them. A whinchester can kill someone just as well as an assaultrifle can. Except that you'll have much less to loose. Last night I stumbled over an guy with an NVG, who then decided it was a good idea to shoot me. Well... he actually killed me. However, I had a friend following me who in turn gunned him down. I was on a rather new char at the time and not carrying anything important. He lost his NVG and other stuff for the sake of killing me. Hows that for repercussion ? Everything you do can have consequences, they just might not always be obvious.

The solution to most of our PVP ”problems”
tajin replied to -Legion-Expendable's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Forget about mumble, best option would be TS3 with ACRE (not sure if that is compatible to DayZ, but I cant imagine why it shouldn't be). Then again if direct chat is fixed, we're good. I just hope there will be some sort of a group-system in the future, that allows us to form groups and utilize those channels. -
Carry 2-3 waterbottles that you refill often and water supplies are not much of an issue really. Ofcourse having a map to find nearby ponds makes it alot easier, but there are certainly enough places to refill you bottles around. Yeh you have to swim to refill them but if dont swim long, then the risk of loosing your gear is minimal. I've never had any problem with it really.

Why did you nerfed the loot percentage ?
tajin replied to drakenof's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Just to remind you... this is arma. No weapon is really useless. (against zombies maybe, but not against players) If you play it right, you could even sneak up on a M107-sniper with your makarov and be his personal nightmare. Arma offers you alot of possibilities for such things. Just don't expect to win any flowers when you're playing this like any other shooter. Make good use of the terrain, avoid getting spotted and keep your eyes peeled. Weapons are only of minor importance for that. Ok stuff like NVGs are a different story, but if you're scared of players using NVGs... then schedule your "hunt" in daylight and their advantage will be gone. Not to mention the possibilities you have with teamwork. -
While I normally like Lingor alot, I dont think it is fitting for DayZ. Lingor has too much water and doesn't really run that well. There are plenty of other, more suitable maps around though. Tasmania might be good. (http://armaisland.info/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/tas11.jpg) What I really like about chernarus is the idea of starting on the south/east coast and working your way inland, where you actually have to worry about water supplies if you dont manage to find a well/pond.

AFAIK you can turn off the camera-shake when walking, check the game-options. Aside from that, you'll get used to first person soon enough (regarding character stance and whatnot). At any rate, this is much better than having people peek around corners using the third person camera, without having to expose themselves. That can be very annoying in pvp.

Yeh, I don't think lethal mines are a good idea for a pvp game like this. Trip flares however are great... and maybe bear traps (those are always stylish and would fit the setting very well)

Basically that is good, but the skin you selected should stay with you at least until you die and respawn.

Hmm, I'll have to disagree there. While the revolver is really good against against zeds, against other players a semiautomatic is more useful.

Problem is that aside from nightvision, tweaking graphic and gamma settings always makes a huge difference. Personally I'd be happy if nightvision was removed or made more rare/random, so finding one would be more a matter of luck, rather than farming/camping.

I'm not sure if that is worth the effort since you don't know where you're going to spawn next and if the stuff is still there when you get back.

Hmm what I dont get with that morality system is that is affects us even after we've died. When I get killed I loose everything and start anew. Why should I not also be allowed to approach things differently this time? Play a harmless survivor one time... get killed. Play as a bandit the next time... get killed. Play as friendly survivor again... I think flagging people as bandits should be a temporary thing, so it resets once you die. A permanent bandit-status as we have it now only makes sense for extreme cases. Otherwise sooner or later everyone will get flagged as bandit for one reason or the other and then the system will be utterly useless.
