Night time darkness levels. (ATI Vs nVidia)
tajin replied to velyse (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Got nothing to do with ATI. Try changing your HRD to a value higher than "normal". Should be fine. -
The free versions do not allow mods. So no.

a few questions fora new player! :)
tajin replied to [email protected]'s topic in New Player Discussion
Thats a serious mistake in my eyes. :-/ Anyway... don't worry too much about so called "high tier" weapons. They may look fancy but in most cases the gained advantage isn't that big. Take the enfield for example. It's one of the most commonly found rifles in DayZ. At the same time, in capable hands its also one of the most dangerous ones. A guy with an M249 might be scary but if you use that enfield right, then it only takes one bullet to get rid of him. That doesn't mean that the M249 is bad, ofcourse not. What I'm saying is that the weapon makes only a marginal difference. How you use it is much more important. Oh and since you mentioned scopes: Anything with a zoom can be deadly... to yourself. Don't run around with it. Use it only, when you need it. When you're moving around, it's best to use something that is capable at short - medium range (medium range beeing anything up to around 200m). I've recently seen a guy with an DMR run out of the woods in front of my squad. He was dead before he could even manage to aim properly. The thing is, he had an M4A3 in his backpack. Had he used that instead, it might have saved his live. -
No matter what the active mods on the serverlist say: CBA is not required for clients ! Only activate the dayz-modfolder, nothing else.

1. Use cover, even if it means a detour. (Also: learn to read a map properly and plan ahead) 2. If you have to cross open areas, do it quickly. Crawling can also work but that depends on the terrain. 3. If you stop (to let others catch up), do it near terrain that blends with your current playerskin. 4. Dont skyline yourself (making your silhouette visible against the horizon) 5. Scan your surroundings while moving. (ocassionally zooming in with RMB to take a closer look at things). Detecting other players before they detect you is a vital part of staying unnoticed. Sneaking alone is not enough, so keep your eyes and ears open. 6. If you see someone, move to the nearest cover, hide and wait. Try to find out if he has spotted you and if he is alone. Then decide how to proceed. 7. If you've spotted someone and want to retreat, move in a direct line away from them, before starting to move sideways. (horizontal movement is much more noticable) That should be the most important things to pay attention to, the rest comes down to practice. ps.: In case it wasn't clear: The above is mainly about not getting not getting noticed by other players, not so much about zombies. (those are much easier to avoid anyway)

Why make two threads for the same thing ?

The best tactical resource out there
tajin replied to aLmAnZo (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Damn.... if they read that, we might actually see some survivors who know how to play ArmA.... beware !!! Honestly, its a great guide. I'd even recommend it to players who've been playing ArmA for a long time. However, before getting started with that I think people should maaaaybe atleast try the tutorialmissions before joining DayZ. Beeing able to read the servername before connecting is also a skill that I would very much like to see more often. ;) -
one word: ACRE prepare to be amazed Not sure in how far the regular chat can be disabled. If theres a solution, then its probably a dirty one. Havent tried that yet, but I can't think of any right now.

That makes no sense. Its not like the suit consists only out of gathered foliage, the aforementioned foliage is only used to improve the camoflage. Position yourself wisely and theres nearly no need for it. If need be, placeable shrubs could easily be added (already had those in some ArmA2 missions), that would do the job. As far as the suit is concerned... I'd love to see that as an item. (ideally one that goes in the backpack slot) ps.: Lets go hunt some wookies !
-
A somewhat easy way to implement it would be to give the generator a certain effective range (not too realistic, I know) and power all lights in range. It's certainly possible. ps.: I'll enjoy shooting out those newly powered lights. *hrhr*

Oh my god. Thinking that there might be ArmA-players out there who need a video tutorial to install a programm as simple as AHK is ... scary. On the other hand ... those are hardly real ArmA-players. *facepalm*

The Respawn button is a regular part of ArmA. See it this way: Accidentially clicking can just aswell lead to accidentially shooting someone in the leg, who in turn blows your head off. The result is the same: Your char is dead. So yeah... just learn to use your mouse properly.

[v1.5.6] Zombies / Loot Spawn Issues
tajin replied to goldengears's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Aye, items despawn now. That also applies to stashes of items that you drop somewhere. A few versions ago, those items used to persist until the server restarted, now they just vanish when noone is nearby. I understand that this increases server-stability, but at what cost? I'd much prefer the old spawn-code where loot actually stayed and spawned and zombies also spawned much faster, even if that means the server would occasionally crash. That is alot better than having to manually restart the server all the time just to try to counter this loot-bug. -
Hosts, please start watching your servers.
tajin replied to Jester.'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think this problem is more apparent now that loot also despawns. As long as the old loot kept lying around, it wasn't much trouble when nothing new spawned. -
Depends on how much blood they have left at the moment. Damage is different to normal ArmA, so the AKM doesnt kill a full blooded player in 1 hit, unless you hit the head.

It isn't. And yeah, the other packs are often used when you've not found an ALICE or better yet. The only really useless pack is the one with 6 slots. I have no idea why that is even in the game.

Turn Off Passive Humanity Increase
tajin replied to adrianscholl's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Remove the passive increase and let us instead increase humanity by killing zombies. -
EU-7 Got kicked and now Locked with 6 people
tajin replied to Grey2ham's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Oh and while your testing you're getting yourselves some nice vehicles and weapons ? Great! Things get tested anyway, no need to lock anything, especially not in a mod where locking servers is clearly frowned upon. (for obvious reasons - its cheating) Not to mention that there was not even a single word of warning before the restart happend. It sure is nice that you host that server, but you seem to forget that this server shares a databaseconnection with all other servers and hence has to play by the rules, just like all other servers! -
rick was vote to admin and lock the server for 4 person
tajin replied to Draggae's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Aye it is, with 6 ppl on it. It restarted right when I was about to loot some weapons and then most ppl got kicked and the server was locked. (except in this case the actual serveradmin did it) There should be strict rules against this, it kinda defeats the purpose of this mod. People on the server right now: "Dorak, Eystein, Khalimerot, Konoro, Tiri, TotoOoOoOo". So don't be surprised if you see those running around with some heavy equipment next time. PS.: If VON annoys you... you can always mute ppl. Just press P, select their name and "mute". -
I think the group system should by no means display who's grouped with whom. I'd simply add an action to players that allows you to invite the player to your group. The other player then gets the invitation and a message showing who is in that group. Once the group is established, a simple hud showing your group-members would suffice.

Last time i counted, all servers combined had around 1700 slots. Now thats only the number of players who can be online at the same time. The total number of players is much higher. Not everyone has a tent for sure but even if its just ever 20th of them we'd still possibly have more than thousand tents on the map. Not good.

Can you starve to death or die of thirst whilst logged out?
tajin replied to AshB's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well then go ahead and increase hunger/thirst by 100% to compensate for it, I wouldn't mind. Only thing I'm concerned about is that the current mechanic punishes players who play only for short times a day, which is not right. (No this doesn't really apply to me and yes I always carry food with me) -
Oh, ofcourse you can, but I'm talking about the scripting part of it. The part that would allow us to add arrows to the quiver. That could get tricky for said reasons.
