Should there be Bosses and dungeons in new standalone?
Professional N00b replied to Darky1307's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No. Just.... no. -
Had finally found a DMR and was happily making my way to Stary to see what I could find. Stopped along the way in the woods to scope out the area only to see not one, but three people huddled together at the edge of a field right next to the town. Took aim, fired. Missed the headshot since it was my first time shooting that gun, but still hit the guy and freaked them all out. Of course they dropped down prone once they realized what was going on, but that didn't really help since I was on a hill overlooking them. Could still easily see them, they were just slower targets now. None of them survived, and I now love DMRs.

You have a picture of one of those... things?! My god, burn it! Burn it with fire! Before they find you!

Went there once at night.... Saw nothing until I started to climb down from the tower, then all I could hear was the sound of a little girl singing some song I didn't recognize in an extremely creepy fashion. I hauled ass. I won't talk about that place any more than that.

Some people just want to see the world burn.
Professional N00b replied to Expressen's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Happened to me several times. Nothing you can do, just keep going and try to avoid high pop. servers. Also keep an eye out for people dying as well. If you see more than usual (like 4-5 in a few seconds) then it -could- be a hacker (has been every time for me so far) and especially if you see the same guy killed over and over again within a few seconds. I'd switch servers at that point. Every time I've died from hackers I noticed odd behavior with the "**** was killed" messages, though it could just be coincidence. -
Thermal, Night Vision and Flashlights.
Professional N00b replied to Psychobob's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I agree with the thermal vision being too much and the need for flashlights and stuff to be a bit more useful. However, I don't see night vision being that big of a problem. Given the rarity (other than duping) it seems pretty reasonable actually. It's not like it highlights every player in the area with a nice bright marker like the thermal scope does, it just lets you see things clearer at night. Which is both realistic and useful, especially if you don't want to attract every person on the server by lighting up a flare like you suggested. -

Day Z Urban Legends
Professional N00b replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My whole story starts with a little too much curiousity and some boredom one night on a low pop server with nothing to do. I've always played DayZ solo, never had a team before, and I've played through almost all areas in both daylight and night time and found that, despite the darkness, the night usually feels safer. Thus, when I heard the "stories" about... Green Mountain... I decided to go check it out. It wasn't a long trek from Stary to the mountain, and in the middle of the night with not too many players left online, it was actually kind of peaceful. Perhaps this is why I never once thought to turn on the recording software. Though to be honest, I was never expecting anything to happen in the first place. I've never been much for the ghost stories told around the campfire at night. In fact, I usually just sit there quietly laughing at those who actually believe them. Still, I was curious so off I went. I arrived at the ominous tower that looms over the mountain just as the moon was becoming veiled by a thick line of clouds, which didn't help the already poor visibility but at least it was still better than the pitch dark that occurs without any moon at all. Slowly I crept up towards the small base, the one I had been too several times before (usually to be disappointed by lack of loot). As usual, some military zombies began making their way out of the base, wandering and spreading out in their usual patterns. That wasn't my concern though. I found a spot on the north-western part of the wall that surrounds the complex that was busted up at the bottom and crawled through, avoiding the zombies that had, by now, left through the front of the base. I spent the next few minutes seaching around the base carefully, even checking the pit of bodies that I knew was there. Turns out, it is a bit creepier at night time. Still, nothing out of the ordinary happened and I continued to seach before heading to the tower itself. Normally there's nothing interesting in the tower other than the decent view from the top, but given that it seems to be the center of the stories I'd heard (along with the Humvee outside), I figured I'd save it for last. Padding my way as stealthily as I could through the narrow hallway at the base was... an interesting experience. It was almost pitch black at this point and with the walls and floors all being the same general color, it was difficult to really see what was what in this tiny hallway. But, the ladder appeared soon enough, to my relief, and after a long climb I arrived at the top. As I went out onto the walkway that wraps around the tower, I kept an eye out across the vast view before me. Actually hoping at this point to spot anything out of the ordinary. Nothing. Just a normal night at the mountain it seemed. Slightly disappointed, despite the fact that I expected nothing to happen anyway, I decided to head back down. Perhaps I'd take one more quick look before the zombies began to wander back into the base before I left, just in case. As I rounded the corner to enter back into the hallway that had led me out onto the upper walkway of the tower I saw what made me nearly shit my pants. A person, the normal player model, was standing right there in the hallway looking at me. I darted back around the corner as soon as my mind kicked into gear and yelled at me to get behind cover before I got shot in the face, thankfully before any bullets flew. I waited for a few minutes outside, my gun trained on the entrance to the hallway. I was trapped on top of the tower, but I sure wasn't going to just walk into the hallway and get mowed down by someone who had been watching me this whole time. Still, as time wore on I felt myself getting impatient. I wasn't going to just abort, that would be too easy. Besides, it was just one guy so if I got the jump on him, I may be able to get him first. Finally mustering up the courage, I crept up to the corner again and then quickly peeked around it. Nothing. Now I was more paranoid before as I scanned every possible area, even though there really wasn't anywhere to hide. Deciding that he had either aborted or went down the ladder without me hearing him, I decided to carefully proceed. As I made it to the ladder I checked back behind me again, just out of habit from my long time of paranoid survival in this wasteland. And that's when my face probably turned pure white. He was there, again. Standing there staring straight at me. This time I saw that he had some sort of rifle or shotgun in his hands, pointed at me. But I really couldn't tell what it was, not with it being so dark. After having walked right through the very hallway he now stood in, I had no idea where he had just come from. All I knew, was I was getting the hell out. Not even thinking straight anymore, I grabbed onto the ladder (somehow) and managed to make it down without breaking my leg. Once there I simply took off at a dead run, getting away from there as fast as I could. As I smashed my face on about five different spots on the walls in the dark corridor at the base of the tower, just trying to get out, I heard an extremely loud burst of what sounded like static come over my headphones for a second or two. I literally jumped and almost fell out of my chair at this point, given that my headphones were turned up quite a bit as it was. Fuck this. I just ran. Got about six zombies chasing me through the woods as a result but I didn't care, my heart was racing and I just wanted out. In hindsight, that was the fastest I had ever gotten from the mountain to Stary before in my entire life. Don't think I even looked back at the zombies the entire time, though thankfully I had managed to somehow lose them through the brush. After awhile I managed to calm myself and realized that the most likely explanation was not some cleverly designed "ghost" that haunted the mountain but rather an actual player who just happened to log in right there in the hallway. Chances are, I scared him just as much as he scared me and he probably aborted again as a result. On the second sighting, he had probably just logged back in again and was checking his surroundings before spotting me a second time, though I'd wager this second one scared me quite a bit more than him. As for the burst of static, I still don't know what caused this. I have great headphones but it's possible it was just some audio glitch, from either the game or my computer. To this day I've yet to hear it again, but you know what? That's okay with me. -
Going ball's deep and surviving like a boss!
Professional N00b replied to jamestrendall's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well your strategy would indeed work for most snipers, myself included. A moving object, especially moving in a randomized pattern like that, is a very difficult target and most people who play the game are not crack shots. As for the zombies though, I can't see that working all that well. Waste a bunch of ammo killing zombies who, by the time you're done, will have respawned somewhere else nearby. -
Your weirdest or most funny glitch.
Professional N00b replied to PoisonedAl's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I was approaching a deerstand the other day and noticed that no zombies had spawned around it, strangely enough. As I approached, a zombie suddenly appeared inside the deerstand (underneath it), tried to attack me through the 'wall', then disappeared. In a split second a different zombie model appeared and did the same thing before disappearing again. Lasted for about 10-20 seconds of zombies just popping in and out of existence before they stopped. Needless to say, I don't go to that deerstand anymore. -
I'm sure this has been brought up somewhere, but figured I'd ask it anyway just in case. As I'm sure many people noticed, Arma 2 updated relatively recently and, for some weird reason, decided to severely nerf most of the guns used in the DayZ mod. Halving the damage of many weapons and even cutting it down to almost 1/4 of what the original damage was in some cases (like my beloved M1911). Now it takes roughly 14 shots from most sidearms to kill another human player, and almost an entire clip just to kill a zombie. Since this IS a mod, would it be possible to return the damage values to what they used to be in a future update? I know the standalone is coming along but I'm tired of having my sidearm be next to useless in the current version so thought I'd throw this suggestion out there. I'd imagine that many people would agree that the realism is shattered when you empty two clips into a person only for them to shoot you twice and kill you, no matter what kinds of guns are being used.

Fixing weapon damage values

Would you kill the unarmed?
Professional N00b replied to Ashnik's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There's only three scenarios where I would shoot an unarmed person, especially on the coast: 1) They try to steal stuff out of my backpack or trick me in some other way. 2) I recognize their name as someone I've killed recently who may or may not be looking to get revenge. 3) I see them but can't tell if they have weapons or not. Better safe than sorry. -
Anyone want to play? SP is hard :(
Professional N00b replied to ollie22007's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Clan with at least seven people now in it eh? Sounds interesting. Took out a group of four yesterday by myself, seven sounds like a fun number to aim for next. Would you do me a favor and tape a target onto your head? -

Your unluckiest/luckiest moments in DayZ?
Professional N00b replied to Jack Pilot's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Lucky: Saw someone in the woods from me about 80 meters away who instantly unloaded an entire clip at me on full automatic from some AK variant gun. Every single shot missed. Unlucky: I ran instead of shooting the bastard when he reloaded. -
Close calls and idiots?
Professional N00b replied to harley001's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It was cold and rainy so to avoid sickness I decided to spend the night inside the corpse of a rabbit. It was a tight fit but once I got settled in I noticed someone had written "Bear Grylls was here" inside it. Also smelled like urine for some reason. -

Increase in Hacking?
Professional N00b replied to cheesycheesebourne's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've noticed hackers increasing in numbers dramatically lately two. Died three times in the past two days because of them. Twice with the instant kill that affects everyone on the server and another time where me and several others (perhaps the whole server) was teleported into the air and fell to our deaths. Now I just cross my fingers and try to avoid the super populated servers, just so I don't enounter another freaking hacker. One tip that might help though: If you keep seeing people die, more then normal for the population of a server. Then there might be a hacker. I've seen this in every case so far, got worried about the number of deaths then two minutes later *BAM* dead. A surefire way is if you see the same player dying over and over, usually within seconds. Since the "Respawn" button was removed, they shouldn't be able to do that unless someone is killing them as soon as they spawn/before they spawn. If you see stuff like that, I'd recommend logging out and finding a different server for awhile. -
Bandit or Survivor [POLL]
Professional N00b replied to PaulPC's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
When I first started I wouldn't even shoot back. I wanted to just work together to overcome the zombies. But as time goes on the zombies lose their appeal and you have no use for the great equipment that you've gathered. What's left? Hunting more dangerous prey. Namely, other players. Therefore, I am and probably always will be a bandit. Until I find something more entertaining. Though I still won't kill unarmed people or new spawns. No challenge there. -
Being bandit = easy difficulty gaming
Professional N00b replied to hawkidoki's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Easy difficulty eh? Okay. I don't really care. If you think that surviving on your own while taking out groups of three or four survivors by yourself without getting killed is so easy then I certainly am not one to contradict you. If you find it challenging to run around giving random players equipment just for them to shoot you with your own gun most of the time, then more power to you. I fail to see any logic to this and it sure seems like your just trying to troll the bandits out there who aren't too bright, but then, who doesn't do stuff like that on the internet? As for me, I think I'll stick to actually surviving and getting good loot by shooting the morons who think that standing around in the middle of a field near Stary is a good idea.
