Sadly the only thing that comes to mind is find a group. My group usually tries to call friendly when we see a player and we haven't had anyone betray that yet. Most people aren't willing to try and take down a three man team all on their own in such a situation. So long as your team keeps their end then the other guys will also be able to live (though finding other teams that do this is pretty rare). Of course, there are times where they do try firing at you right off the bat like a complete moron and they usually die pretty fast. Having more than one person makes the game infinitely easier. Also more interesting since you get to try group tactics. Also, try not to sound too nervous if you're using voice chat (which you should seriously consider if you're not already). Someone sounding nervous, no matter how natural it is, tends to make others nervous. When that happens, shit goes down.

There's risk and reward to both killing on sight as well as trying to be friendly. Killing on sight is generally safer and can net you some decent gear. Downside is you could just as easily end up being the one killed. Had several situations where someone else opened up on me but because of their horrible aim plus their bad gun, I managed to kill them instead. Trying to befriend someone is even riskier though because, while there are exceptions like above, usually the one who fires first will win. Thus if you stop and try to talk nice, they are likely to just shoot you rather than try to trust you and end up having you shoot them instead. So the initial risk is much higher, especially on public servers where people don't know each other. However, if you do manage to make a friend in the game then you now have another man on your team which is far more valuable (usually) than just the gear alone. Not to mention you guys may decide to work together in the future even after you die, thus creating something useful that persists through your character's death. Over all it's just a risk versus reward situation along with a playstyle choice. Obviously it is much harder for a lone wolf and tends to be better to just KoS instead, but you never know. A good example was when me and two other friends were looting Zub Castle and some poor guy drove up in a UAZ. We heard him coming, hid, and a few minutes later he managed to spot one of us while he tried to loot the castle. Instead of shooting (which would have instantly ended up in him getting shot from three heavily armed people) he called friendly and we all replied in kind. Eventually he gave us a ride in his UAZ and even decided to let us have it since we could use it more than he could. No one fired a shot.

I know what you mean about people teleporting behind and killing you. Last two times my team got wiped was when someone did that. First was when we were deep in the woods way to the north waiting on a friend of ours to stop being afk and gunfire erupts out of a place I had just checked only a few seconds before, killing two of us before we could even react. Second time was us running through the woods again with me checking over our back the whole time and we get lit up by an LMG and killed before we can fight back. Granted I can't guarantee that these guys are script kiddies but I'd be willing to bet on it. I seriously can't figure out what enjoyment they get out of it though.

G17 or PDW, whichever I can find. Then the usual M14/DMR combo. Though I also enjoy using tin cans and a hatchet. Just because people tend to get confused when their legs bet broken by a flying can and then a screaming madman starts hacking them to pieces with an axe. Who could resist?

This one time I shot down a helicopter with a Makarov. True story.

I start screaming at the top of my lungs until eventually my hair turns golden and I start glowing. Then I spend about half an hour doing a cheesy monologue before spending the next six hours beating the crap out of the can. Eventually the people watching all of this get fed up and someone with a can opener usually shows up to help me out.

Most private hives can be joined like any other server. The only difference is that some of them may have some minor code changes (such as more vehicles, always daytime, or just bug fixes) and that the character data is not saved onto the main public hives (in other words, you have a seperate character just for that server). As far as scripters go, they're still out there. Public, private, it doesn't really matter anymore. Seems the script kiddies are persistent. I just wish they'd go back to CoD and stop ruining the Arma 2 games.

While the hackers are horrible there isn't a whole lot the devs can do with the current engine. What IS annoying is the sheer number of bugs that will cause you to lose hours of looting just because you logged into the game. The kinds of bugs that even private hive servers have fixed themselves yet still remains a problem in the base game. Those things could be fixed. Not doing so and treating the people who have been flocking to DayZ simply as free loaders is going to end up badly I fear.

Once I spawn on the coast I begin building sand castles. If I hear zombies or gunfire I just shove my head into the sand until the threat passes, I get shot, or I suffocate.

Hatchet. I love seeing the brown stain that appears on some ghillie suit bastard as I run up behind him screaming "Heeerrreeeee's Johnny!"

I got killed about four times in two nights by hackers and almost quit the game but decided to only join servers with less than ten players online and/or private hives. Didn't die for about two weeks unti last night when even the private hive with added security and bug fixes got mass murdered out of nowhere. I just honestly don't get it. It isn't even entertaining to just instantly kill everyone on the server so why do people do it? Surely it can't be that much fun to just click a button and know you ruined a lot of people's time.

I roleplay by shooting everyone I see. Except females. I shoot them in the legs, knock them unconcious, bandage them up, and then start dragging them around while tea bagging and making disturbing noises through my mic. You'd be amazed how funny the reactions are.

Kamikaze hacker? Now that's a mildly entertaining one. And let's be honest, if you were running back and forth between Electro and Cherno and just let some random guy in a ghillie run beside you then you would have died soon anyway from some legit player killing you.

L85 as well. Just so I can see through the sights myself before the gun ends up getting removed (if it ever does). I play solo so the rarest weapons are usually never seen by me unless I get shot with them :P

The DMR is my favorite sniper out of all of them because of the high rate of fire, large mag, night vision compatibility, and the fact that you can zoom in multiple levels with the scope, unlike the SVD. But if picking between a 50 cal and SVD... I think it would really depend on how much ammo was there. If the ammo situation was even I may go for a 50 cal just because of how much more powerful it is plus the bonus of the zoom on the scope. That being said, the SVD is also a good choice due to the built in rangefinder and ability to aim quickly without having to cycle through zeroing. Though I personally don't like the chevrons used in that particular scope. I'd much rather have dots. Overall it depends on what distances you expect to be shooting. Long ranges, 50 cal is far superior. Short distances and the speed of using the SVD *might* make it the better choice.

Why did you just get so lucky? Because you just found a bunch of stuff dropped by a script kiddie. And script kiddies are all over the place these days. Personally I'd get rid of at least the soldier clothing since it is not supposed to be in the game. May be able to keep the rest since it's unclear if it is hacked or not though.
