Zombies don't respawn whilst a player is still in the area
NickMackz posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Something that has always annoyed me with DayZ is how quickly zombies respawn after they are killed. This isn't so bad in medium to large towns, but for small villages, deer stands and places like green mountain, it is frustrating. Currently in the mod, zombies spawn when a player goes within about 200m of their spawn point (I believe) and whilst a player is still in this area they respawn a couple of minutes after being killed. This makes it impossible, even for a group, to properly clear an area or small village. My suggestion is that zombies spawn initially in the same way, but once they are killed they do not respawn whilst any player is still within the ~200m radius of their spawn point. If all players leave the area and other players (or the same players) enter the area again then they should spawn/respawn. This would mean that players would be able to completely clear an area of zombies and it would remain clear until they left. This could allow for new gameplay strategies like making temporary bases in villages. For really large and busy towns/cities like Cherno and Elektro, the no respawn radius should be smaller at about 50m to avoid all the zombies being removed unrealistically. For medium-large and semi-busy towns it should be about 100m. For the standalone it should work in a similar way but as all the zombies are pre-spawned by the server they should just respawn when the player(s) leave the area. -
Craftable Crossbow Arrows + Other stuff regarding the Crossbow
NickMackz replied to Scott Pilgrim's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
If the crossbow had craftable bolts and a better sight (dot or good iron sight), then it would be my favourite weapon. I really want to like it but it's hard to aim without a lot of practice and I often can't recover my bolts. -
Not a bad idea but I think the animations, physics simulation, etc. of this make it unlikely to be implemented any time soon.

Bleeding rate being tied to how hard your character breaths
NickMackz replied to badmagix's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I like that idea. Fairly realistic as your blood preasure will increase when excersing due to increased heart rate. -
If it just makes you feel sick because of the head bob, you can turn that off in the options so your view stays steady.

I agree that way of temporarily aiming more accurately without entering sights is a good idea. Perhaps add a feature where you can hold the right mouse button (or whatevery button) whilst your gun is at the hip to steady your aim, show a faint dot in the center of your screen and have your gun aimed roughly at the center. Not perfectly and with a reasonable amount of inaccuracy, but accurate enough to let you take better shots at short ranges without going into sights.

I agree, I think Dayz should be a difficult and challending hardcore FPS. That is what makes it different from most other FPSs - it isn't designed for instant and easy fun. It has a learning curve, it is not as fast paced and it requires the player to think and plan more. Yes I know that other FPSs have tactics that are very important to success but that is not what I am getting at. In other FPSs you don't need to plan where you are going and navigate using the sun, contours and stars (I am deliberately ignoring the annoying constant cloud direction) to avoid getting lost, going in circles, or simply having to run longer because you didn't think about your journey enough and ended up not where you needed to be. Other FPSs don't have diseases that you will have to diagnose yourself and find the appropriate drugs to cure yourself. Other FPSs don't leave you abondanded on a beach with not even a gun after you die. I could go on but you get the idea. Dayz should not cater to people who want a fast paced easy PvP first person shooter, that isn't what it should be about. It should be about surviving in whatever way you see fit and provide an authentic and immersive experience in the process. To properly achieve this, 3rd person and a permanent crosshair need to go. Just my opinion, feel free to dissagree :)

I agree to a certain extent, but (excluding aiming deadzone) you can still shoot at close range without sights as you will get a fairly good feel for where your weapon is pointing with a bit of practice. It will usually be near but not at the center of the screen. I'd imagine that even with aiming deadzone, you would get a fairly good feel of how to shoot without sights with a bit of practice. No crosshair doesn't equal more realistic, but no crosshair does equal more immersive and more realistic than the current overly accurate crosshair. Personally I would like both 3rd person and crosshair to go but that is just my opinion and I know a lot of people disagree about losing 3rd person. EDIT to clarify my opinion: I would like to see crosshair completely removed. I agree with what a lot of other people have said. It makes the game too easy and it is too accurate to be realistic. Dayz is not supposed to be easy - it is supposed to be difficult and challenging. Without being difficult and challenging, a lot of the appeal of the game is lost.

Alienware M17x R4... Low fps. Why?
NickMackz replied to halueryphi's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Edited my post with some more. FPS dropping in towns is expected as there is a lot more to render. Zombies alone take 6 GPU passes each at the moment due to the way they are made. Again, this will be improved in the standalone. -
Alienware M17x R4... Low fps. Why?
NickMackz replied to halueryphi's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
People often find that they get a higher FPS with the advanced options on highest as it uses the GPU more and the CPU less. The shadows is a good example of this - very high is almost always faster than high. Anyways, make sure you have your interface resolution and 3d resolution are set to 100%. Try adjusting the individual options on the advanced graphics settings to see if one is causing the issues. Turning off post processing often helps quite a lot. If you are running it off an external USB 2.0 hard drive, that can reduce the FPS quite a lot as Arma 2 and Dayz are quite hard drive intensive. Make sure you set your video memory to default or the game won't be able to use more than 512MB of it. Setting GPU_MaxFramesAhead=3; GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=3; in Arma2OA.cfg in Arma 2 in your documents sometimes helps. You will need to set the file as read only to stop Arma 2 changing them back so change other settings in game first. Other than trying those, there isn't much you can do. Dayz is just poorly optimised at the moment. The standalone should be considerably better. -
Are you sure you remembered to save the tent?
-
Or save tent inventories as the server shuts down before a restart.
-
I think this is being disabled on all servers in 1.7.3 anyway. Solution: learn to navigate!
-
Don't hop between servers with different arma 2 beta versions to each other and to you and this shouldn't happen.
-
Common problem if you play on servers with different Arma 2 beta version than you, or if you jump between servers with different versions. Always use the same beta version as the server you play on and this is less likely to happen. It happened to me twice in a row. Both times I lost everything, including my bag. I didn't commit suicide but found everything again (twice). I am still alive and somewhere around 30-40 days old now. Collecting everything is one of the best bits of the game IMO. Once you have everything, there isn't much left to do other than vehicles (which don't save / load properly at the moment so there is no point repairing them).

Debug monitor will be gone in 1.7.3 !
NickMackz replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The problem with logging out whilst in combat is quite a major one and now that you have explained yourself better, I see why it can be useful for that. I wish people would calm down and explain themselves better when they post (not just directed at you). However, this is a problem that needs to be solved separately with a logout timer or similar, rather than using the debug monitor as a workaround for confirmation. Whilst I see a lot of complaints about hacking and how it is worst at the moment, I have yet to be a victim of it. I'm guessing that this is either just luck, or all the hackers are on American servers (which I don't play on). I have been playing for a few weeks, but not much in the last couple of weeks due to other things. -

If you shoot someone and they fall down, you don't know if they are dead until you go and check their body - realistic / authentic. If you shoot someone and they fall down and disappear through alt-f4, why does it matter if you killed them or not? They are gone so you cannot loot their stuff so why does it matter? If you just kill people to get the kill counts then you are the type of person that is ruining the game and I'm glad you will have a hard time keeping track of your kills now. On the topic of blood and other stats. Blood level is fairly easy to tell approximately by the way everything loses colour as you lose blood. I am confident that I will be able to tell when I am at about 9K or less. However, I am also colourblind (red/orange and green) and I would love for there to be a colourblind mode where all of the icons go from green to blue rather than green to red. Fortunately, the green and red that they use at the moment aren't the shades that I particularly have problems with but it is still quite difficult to see smaller changes. Overall, I am glad that the debug monitor is leaving as it increases immersion and authenticity of the game. I have recently started playing only on servers with no third person and it is so much more immersive. It feels much more like you are the character, rather than you are just observing your character from a third person perspective. I think removing the debug monitor will increase this effect. Rather than just being able to read how much blood your character has, you will have to judge how much blood you have from the colour of your vision. I would quite like third person to be removed entirely as it is practically a cheat that allows you to see around corners and over walls, etc. It is rather unfair that someone can see you around a corner without ever having to properly look around. Yes, it is more difficult to play in just first person (like crawling in grass) but I enjoy the challenge and it is authentic. That is a topic for a different discussion though. -
Have you tried using Dayz Commander? I've found it way more reliable than Six Launcher for updating and launching the game. You can launch the game without joining a server from the options. You can also launch through steam and it actually works. :)

POLL: Graphic Glitches & 1.7.2.5
NickMackz replied to cleveden8's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I am using a rather frankenbuild computer due to a low budget. I have a core 2 duo E6600 overclocked to 3.2GHz, 4GB DDR2 RAM, and a 1GB Gainward GTX570. I always update with Dayz Commander but I got glitched into the wilderness and then on the coast after a relog (also losing all of my items and bag) twice after the 1.7.2.5 update. I wonder if the object detail is something to do with it? I always have it set on normal or low and haven't had any problems on either patch. Could other people post their object detail and if changing it effects the problem? -
POLL: Graphic Glitches & 1.7.2.5
NickMackz replied to cleveden8's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Haven't experienced any of the glitches in either patch. I did have some invisible dead military bodies though, their shadows were there and occasionally their bodies were visible briefly. Note that the people who have the glitches are more likely to find this thread than those who don't as they won't be looking for glitch related threads. -
First server I tried, I got stuck on loading for about 10-15 min. Alt-F4ed to try another. Spawned in wilderness with nothing :(. Re-logged and was on beach with nothing :(. Not too bothered but it's annoying. Especially as I don't have a pack. Haven't experienced any screen tearing though. I'm using Nvidia GTX 570 with beta driver 304.79, Arma II beta 95883.
-
So far I haven't had any problems once I got into a game. Had to try several servers though as I was just stuck on loading for quite a few. The increased zombie hearing did result in this though: Good job we had plenty of ammo :)

Rocket did say he might add a suicide option with a firearm. He wanted to check if this could cause problems with ratings etc. before he added it.
-
You realize that re-spawning means suicide right? So you lose all your items. It has been possible to suicide / re-spawn at any time before, now you can ONLY re-spawn when you have a fracture.
