I'd love to see something like this, but I think leaving textures and all might be kinda stressful for the servers which are already stretched atm. Anyway, if it is possible I agree and would love to see this in one form or another.

I came upon someone in a barn facing the opposite direction, but I didn't have my headset on to talk to him. As I tried to decide what to do he began turning around, crossbow in hand. I shot him 7 times with an AK. It was overkill. I felt bad because I wasn't at al interested in killing him, but I had even less interest in letting him point that crossbow my way.

First off: I fucking love this mod. Here is my equipment: DMR M1911 NVGs Coyote Backpack 3 Water Bottles Hunting Gear I'm not really sure what to do anymore. With exception to a Ghillie suit and a M9SD, I have everything I want, so I'm a bit confused as to what I should do now. Until this point, I had been motivated by getting the gear I wanted, but now I'm at a total loss as to what I should be striving for. The way I see it, these are my options: 1) Kill as many people as I can before I die 2) Go back to Cherno / Electro and counter snipe 3) Camp an airfield and kill everyone possible 4) Try to deliver medical supplies to people 5) Wander around and hunt helicopters. I'm not paticularly interested in killing anyone if I'm not going to actually loot them and get something I need. Counter-sniping in noob areas seems likely to get me killed by another sniper if not a noob who thinks I'm there to kill them. Does anyone know what I should be doing at this point? This is the first time I've actualy aquired all the gear I wanted before dying, so I'd really appreciate any advice as to what is fun or interesting to do now.

How will I know who is trustworthy if I don't put a 7.62 NATO round through their skull and see if they try to alt-f4/disc. It's the only sure way to tell if someone is trustworthy without putting yourself at risk. Needless to say, I've met several trustworthy people by this method, but I never seem to be able to find them again.

I've had the suspicion lately that zombies are much more likely to break your leg on hit when your crawling. Permitted, most of the time I get hit I'm crawling so it could be a false positive, but that's my working theory at the moment.

For the love of god please remove the knock out mechanic
Obsolescence replied to badger05's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I know in my own play experience I kept adjusting the blood value I thought you could be knocked unconcious at up over my lives. At first I thought it was 8K, then 9K, and then I believe I was knocked unconcious at 10K, but I don't recall exactly if I was at 10K when that paticular hit occured. I had never read the wiki until now. -
I read that they will have "hardcore and softcore modes." I literally gained everything I need to know about WarZ from that one "feature," assuming it is true and remains true as the game develops.

For the love of god please remove the knock out mechanic
Obsolescence replied to badger05's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I would consider the time you got down to 800 blood the anomoly and this time with the pistol shots the norm. Consider this, if someone walked up and shot you twice in the chest with a 9mm or 0.45 ACP pistol, do you think you would just puff your chest out and smile? No, you'll be dead, complaining to whatever diety you may believe in that this unconcious mechanic isn't fair. It took you decades to get where you were and then someone just shot you twice and that was all it took to put you out of comission. -
Can someone alt-f4/disc if you headshot?

Since I only hit the body won't he spawn with 4000+ HP and be just fine, because the DMR does 8000 max to the body right? -
FPS Degrading Over Time (50+ -> 10+) Help Me Please
Obsolescence posted a topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Whenever I start the game fresh (especially after the machine has been idle for a while), I get 40-70 FPS. 40 in cities and 60-70 in forests. However, over the course of a half hour to a couple hours, my frame rate will slowly decay until it becomes unplayable. At first, I figured it might be a processor or GPU heat issue, but after watching my temps while playing I don't think they are anything to be concerned about; less than 70C on GPU and less than 40C on CPU. Now I'm wondering if this could be a RAM issue or memory leak problem. I haven't experienced any sort of crash or BSOD, but I normally call it quits once I reach <18 FPS. Can anyone help me brainstorm what I might be missing here? I need some help. I'll list my specs, but the issue I'm concerned with is not whether X FPS value is appropriate for my machine, but rather why my FPS seems more dependant on time played than anything else. Thanks for the help, as always! System: AMD Phenom II X6 1100 BE @ 3.3GHZ AMD Radeon HD 6970 880MHZ w/ 2 gigs VRAM DDR3 1600MHZ 8 gigs RAM -
FPS Degrading Over Time (50+ -> 10+) Help Me Please

I'm assuming you add those to steam A2OA startup parameters thingy? -
So as everyone knows now the damage of many guns was reduced http://dayzdb.com/ne...es-in-arma2-162 - most critically the sidearms. What I don't understand is why the old community is bawing about it so pathetically. Even Rocket is apparently sympathetic to their incessent crying: http://pt.reddit.com...details/c5k7u2f I was using a revolver before and after the patch and I dare say I like it better this way. Has the old community completely forgotten that all of your targets have heads, and in the case of zombies, they are basically just standing there asking to be headshot. Why is this a better, more brutal, more challenging anti-game if all your pistols 2-shot zombies in the chest. Now it may take 3-4 shots. Were yall not aware that zombies ordinarily require you to damage their brain to disable them? Even real humans on certain drugs can withstand multiple gunshots and keep moving. Not to mention that some of the zombies and the players apear to be wearing kevlar, if not ceramic, vests. Did I mention you can still always shoot them in the head? I'm really shocked at how what I thought was a comunity interested in challenge and adventure wilts and cowers at the idea of having to put an extra bullet in their targets, assuming they can't manage a headshot. Please enjoy reading this http://www.firearmst...f/fbi-hwfe.pdf research document from the FBI academy detailing exactly why I am right and you are all wrong :-P See below for a reading guide to make it faster to understand why I'm correct. I'm giving you beans because this piece of evidence is great, but this document doesn't support your point. It actually supports my point, but it seems adorably apparent that you only read it until you reached the first reference that you felt vindicated your own preconceptions. Please see my references within the document. I've included summaries in case you are still to busy to read the document you are using as evidence. Please read: Pg. 3 - Third paragraph: Explains that two shots to the body is to be expected on average to incapacitate (but not kill). Pg. 8 - First sentence: "With the exception of hits to the brain or upper spinal cord, the concept of reliable and reproducible immediate incapacitation of the human target by gunshot wound to the torso is a myth." Pg. 8 - Second paragraph: Reviews the ways in which a target can be physiologically incapacitated (note the last sentence detailing direct heart shots). Pg. 8 - Last paragraph: Details how psychological, emotional, and chemical factors can prevent incapacitation (including basic adrenaline). Pg. 9 - Fourth paragraph: Explains that a bullet will not knock you down, and that this has been a known fact for "hundreds of years." Pg. 13 - Last paragraph: Explains the phenomena of people falling down as dependant of whether they realize they've been shot (and that this phenomena is independent of caliber). Pg. 16 - All paragraphs: This is the conclusion section (where the conclusions go). Please take a look at this section because each of the three paragraphs is laughing at you. Thanks for the interesting document, but I think you shot yourself in the foot, so to speak.

EDIT: I'm using a DMR and M1911 So I got my first sniper rifle today, but I'm typically an "on the move" type of player. I won't be sitting on a hillside to take pot-shots at people I don't even plan to steal supplies from. So, I'm wondering when I should be using my pistol and when I should be using my rifle. Please tell me what weapon you'd suggest using in the following scenarios: 1) Running through thick forests 2) Approaching lone buildings 3) Moving through cities / buildings Obviously the pistol is better for clearing zeds because of the audible range, but are the semi-auto rifles like the DMR bad enough at close combat that I should switch to my pistol? As always, thanks for the suggestions.

Do admins sometimes restart servers to cheat death?
Obsolescence posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My friend and I were looting the military tents outside of Berezino. I was overwatch and my friend was looting. He got into a spat with a zombie and shot a few pistol rounds. Half a minute or so after he arrives back, we see two survivors crawling along the road slightly closer to town. He wanted to try out his new M14 and killed them both before they knew what had hit them. Less than a minute later, just after we got done being chased by a couple zeds, the server crashes/restarts/disconnects us. There were only a handful of people in the server. Is it possible we killed the admin and he restarted? Or is that not possible and it was just a coincidence? Either way I don't remember the server name, it was a US ###. Also, do most snipers loot people when they kill them? It seems pretty risky to go stand around in an area obviously vulnerable enough for your prey to die. I've never sniped anyone so I hadn't encountered that question until today. -
Files keep disappearing from my A2 and A2OA install
Obsolescence posted a topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
So I've noticed that periodically I'll get the message when I join the servers saying something like a weapon.cfg or .dat file is missing, and when this occurs I get all kinds of crazy artifacting and gfx glitches around weapon caches (NWAFB and Stary). Then I go and verify files in steam. Steam will find 1 file missing and replace it. Sure enough, after a bit this same file goes missing again. Does anyone know why files keep dropping out of my install or what I can do to prevent it. This is driving me a bit mad atm. -
Bad Serial number given in setup
Obsolescence replied to zatic13's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Try verifying your files if bought through steam. run steam as administrator. Run A2OA without launching DayZ. Try again. Hope this helps. -
As a Casual player I love this game but 2 issues (night+zombie sees)
Obsolescence replied to wulvgar's topic in New Player Discussion
I agree with you that getting the local server time should be an easier, more straightforward process, but I'm sure that is on Rocket's list - although it isn't of great priority atm. -
If you don't know them in real life, know this: previous good behavior does not in any way dictate future behavior. No one here is your friend, they are strangers who may, and often times will, kill you for fun - if not for the off chance you may have something useful.

As a Casual player I love this game but 2 issues (night+zombie sees)
Obsolescence replied to wulvgar's topic in New Player Discussion
Look for servers with GMT-X or GMT+X in the title. This tells you what the local time is on the server. If it is night time in your timezone then find a GMT-X that is significantly different that yours and it will be daylight. There is no need to ask them to fundamentally change the game when you have the power to decide for yourself what time of day you play in. Do you know how far a player can see? I can see the zombies from hundreds of meters away. At least 500m. You should be grateful that the zombies eyesight is reduced and they can only see you from <100m away or so. You don't know how decrepified any given zombie is. Has that person been a zombie for a month? a few days? a few hours? a few minutes? At night time their vision is reduced and you can crouch walk within 15-25m of them. I'm glad you like the game, but keep in mind that this isn't a game designed to cater to every complaint a casual player has and if it did it would water the game down to the point that it wouldn't be any different from COD: Zombie Edition. -
Sorry for the double-post, but I wanted to address this complaint. Everyone is always whining about the zig-zagging zombies. I personally came to DayZ for a challenging experience. Zombies that run straight at you are not challenging. Zombies that zig-zag while swarming you are challenging. If you don't like a challenge, you may enjoy L4D instead of DayZ. If it bothers you that these mindless zombies run like a soldier trying to evade fire, consider that perhaps all of the zombies that ran in straight lines are already dead because they were so easy to kill B)

Consider that maybe not all weapons are intended to be equally viable as PvP weapons. Perhaps this is a weapon intended to be used as a silent hunting / infiltration tool to go about your business in the wild without attracting the attention of players or zombies. You can always use 13 slots in your backpack to carry it and 3 bolts so you can use it for hunting and another weapon for anticipated PvP encounters. The weapons shouldn't be balanced so that all players appreciate them equally. I personally don't like the crossbow because I don't like the play-style you need to adopt to be effective with it. However, I know plenty of people who swear by the crossbow and I don't want to infringe on their enjoyment just because it isn't my cup of tea.
-
It's almost as if there is an intentional trade off for having the only silenced weapon in the game that you can recover ammo for.
-
I don't see the problem. In the scenario you describe you do have a justification. The victim has a tin of beans! For all you know you will round the next corner and take a bullet to the chest and need every scrap of food you can find to recover blood. Thankfully you murdered that innocent nooblet who only had a can of beans cause that means +200 blood for you. I shoot anytime I meet someone in close quarters or with a gun at any threatening range. If you don't want me to shoot you, great! Please stay out of my visual area and I promise I won't shoot you.

Can't you just shoot them in the head?
Obsolescence replied to Obsolescence's topic in New Player Discussion
Why would they need to add more ammo in the game just because people can't learn to adapt and use their ammo efficiently? Use more headshots, and use them from greater distances so you don't aggro 5 at a time. Instead of shooting everything, throw a flare to distract them.
