Don't bother paying any attention to this guy. All he does is bolt around the forums insluting people by offering condescending one-liners.

Starting on coast everytime I join a new server [1.7.2.4]
Obsolescence replied to Obsolescence's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Responses like this are why I had to bother creating my own thread. I haven't seen a helpful or informative response on this subject yet. Do you fundamentally misunderstand the situation as I described it, or are you just being cute? It would be rather dense of me to even attempt server hopping unless I wanted to amass tin cans from the cities, because a run to NWAFB for some choppers or barracks server hopping would be a 1-2 hour run in between lootings. Do you have anything substantive to say about why this is occuring? Is it likely a client-side issue requiring a reinstall? Is it a server issue? A hive issue? Is there anything I can do about it like updating to 1.7.2.5? Or is this working as intended and this is just the way the game is supposed to be now? -
Can DayZ tell us something about the gun control debate?
Obsolescence posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
With the recent tragedies in the U.S. concerning mass killings with military grade weapons, I began thinking about how the prevalence of guns in DayZ can inform us about the consequences for the prevalence of guns in the U.S. Consider the following interactions: 1) As the number of players who have guns in DayZ increases, so too do the number of murders increase. 2) If players know (or believe) that they are both unarmed, they will be much more likely to communicate and trust each other. 3) As the lethatlity of weapons people have increases, they are more capable of killing large numbers of players on their own. Therefore, I posit that parallel to DayZ's mechanics concerning weapon availability: 1) As the number of citizens who have guns in the U.S. increases, so too do the number of murders increase. 2) If citizens know (or believe) that they are both unarmed, they will be much more likely to communicate and trust each other. 3) As the lethality of weapons citizens have increases, they are more capable of killing large numbers of citizens on their own. I just thought it was interesting, and a testament to DayZ's accuracy for modeling human behavior and interactions, that parallels can be drawn between gun prevalence and violence/trust in modern countries and Chenarus. Flame away! -
So I killed an admin in Cherno looting the apartments near the north-west hospital (I know he was an admin because the server restarted 30-60 seconds after I killed him), but I looted both an AS50 with 5 M107 clips and a M16 CCO SD with 6 SD mags. Now my inventory is full and I don't want to risk dying because I'm carrying two of the rarest guns in the game. My friend and I have put a tent up, but I'm worried about it eating one of my weapons. I have 3 questions: If you were in my position... 1. Which gun would you risk losing first? 2. Is there anyway to verify that a tent is stable and won't eat my nice shiny weapons before I put them in? 3. How risky is it to just use someone elses tent that appears to be unatttended?

This was the third time I killed someone on a low pop server (<6 other people) and the 30-60 seconds later the server resets. I feel confident these are admin kills because I would expect it to take precisely this amount of time to log into whatever web-client controls your server and initiate a reset. Also, on a low pop server the likelyhood that any given player is an admin is increased because admins tend to play on their own servers.

Exactly this. Why not just throw all of my equipment on the ground and walk away? We all know we are going to lose our equipment at some point due to death or desync. I mean honestly, why do we bother even picking it up in the first place? amirite?

Living makes you a tempting target. Wearing a Ghillie suit makes it harder for people to aquire you as a target. What is the problem again?

There have always been padlocks in the game, but they are all broken now because each one that was found was inevitably shot and broken.

I Need a Taser / Stun Gun / Sleeping Dart In This Game ASAP
Obsolescence posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Until this game has some way for me to reliably incapacitate my opponents without killing them so that I can safely walk up to them singing "Soft Kitty" as I eat all their food, use all their medicine, feed their equipment to my full backpack, and leave them more bare than the day they landed on this god forsaken island then your job is not done, Rocket! Rocket! Are you listening? YOUR JOB IS NOT DONE! -

Dear Father, None of them suggested singing "Soft Kitty" before robbing their victims, therefore, my idea is original and good. -
Looking for a couple U.S. players to start base building phase
Obsolescence posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
A friend and I have gotten pretty decent at gearing up, surviving, and banditry, but we'd like to start collecting tents / vehicles / etc to begin a more robust group. Any lonewolfs out there who'd be interested in joining us for some fun and destruction? We normally play around 4pm - 12am CST. I'm on right now if you're interested in chatting. Skype me: irreverentone -
I was wondering if anyone could comment on how they handle moving across the map solo. Do you go slow and bino every tree line, do you crouch run most of the time? This is assuming I want to try to survive. If you move fast and reckless, I figure there is a better chance someone won't run up behind you and murder you since you'll be moving at the same speed, but I wanted yall's input. Thanks as always for the advice and suggestions.

Take it easy, Anne Frank. I don't actually want them to implement this. The whole point is to have some fun suggesting funny achievements.

Don't un-nerf the damage changed by Arma II patch
Obsolescence posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Relevant source data: http://dayzdb.com/ne...a2-162#comments Please don't make changes to in any way return the damage of weapons back to what it was before the Arma II patch. The weapon damages are just fine as long as they all still 1-shot a zombie/player with a headshot. This game is intended to be challenging and not being able to take down a whole horde of zombies with just your pistol has reinvigorated my, and other people's, fear of firing their weapon in a crowded area. Shooting zombies or players in the head was not at all necessary before the patch, now it is much more important to good ammo efficiency and effectiveness. The game has been made more challenging not less. Isn't that, to a reasonable degree, the goal here? At the very least, at least don't change the # of shots required to kill zombies. If you must change the values for PvP so be it, but zombies can actually be a threat now. -
The only use I have for money is to make smaller, less noticable fires to cook meat with. Even then, I would never risk getting near a stranger to trade for this marginal benefit.

slow positive health regeneration.
Obsolescence replied to Hiddenshadows57's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It takes several weeks to regenerate blood cells. When you donate blood they list your red blood cell recovery time at 4 - 8 weeks. Honestly, unless you want to bring some superhuman CoD/Halo bullshit, your blood recovery should be less than 100 points per day. I'm not against that, but honestly, go kill a cow and eat the meat for 8x800=6400 blood. The game is easy enough, and realistic blood recovery won't make a noticable difference. -
Morhpine Emergency - How about a BRANCH!!! ?

Oh look! Unknown Operative encountered one of the very rare scenarios in the game that you can't handle entiely on your own. It's almost as if you really aren't a symbiotic combo of Rambo, Chuck Norris, and Bear Grylls. -

Don't un-nerf the damage changed by Arma II patch
Obsolescence replied to Obsolescence's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I do agree that the pistols still seem too weak against players, assuming those aren't bulletproof vests we are all running around with. I think they should up the damage on the 9mms and 0.45 cals. However, it shouldn't go back to what it was before. Just require 3-5 shots to the body instead of 8 [0.45] and 13 [9mm]. Forty-five cal pistols should incapacitate in 2-3 and kill in 3-5 bodyshots. Nine millimeter pistols should incapacitate in 3-4 and kill in 4-6. That way, the damage is more in line with research on the topic (someone posted a great FBI research document all about this) and players are still encouraged to just aim for the heads since you would be able to take a bodyshot if you can deal a headshot. I completely agree. I hate that a pretty decent gun becomes trash just because it is so common. I hate seeing it, I hate using it, only because I always find one before anything else and it trumps almost all the other assault rifles except maybe the CCOs and M203 if you're so inclined (excepting, of course, the FN-FAL because it is helo spawn). -
Moving Solo, Slow+Cautious or Fast+Reckless?

To bino a treeline means, "use binoculars on a treeline." When I'm with my friend in game we just refer to them as binos. Just forgot I wasn't communicating to him. -
Whats the best/fastest way to get an M107/AS50?
Obsolescence posted a topic in New Player Discussion
I normally give myself a goal for every life, and this life my goal is to aquire a 0.50 cal sniper. Could any experienced players recommend the best/fastest way to acquire one? Here are what I see as my best options: 1) I have NVGs or combat camo I could trade but I don't really want to risk getting shot by some asshole who will then take everything. 2) I could wander around looking for a tent city or try and find one listed on the forums to raid. 3) I could look for snipers around NWAFB, but I have no clue where people with 0.50 cals like to snipe from (Does anyone know good spots to check?). 4) I could roam around looking for a helo crash and cross my fingers, but I don't really know where to go to look for them (I know they appear in any open field, but are there any good areas to look for them?). 5) I could server hop ~909 times at one of the barracks until I find my M107. Thanks as always for the help and suggestions. -

Obsolescence replied to Obsolescence's topic in New Player Discussion
If it's true that their spawning is completely random in open fields, then wouldn't the fastest way to find them be just to server hop one of the two hills NW and SE of Vybor and just sweep the surrounding area with binoculars? They have open fields in almost 360 degrees around them for 1-3 Km. Sorry if server hopping is against the rules, I've never been very sure about how they are considered by the devs. -

Thanks for letting me know you know what I want to know. If only there was a place, like a forum, where I could post a question asking to know what you know where you would actually answer me.
