Last night I was counter-sniping in Cherno (survivors, you're welcome). I was shooting at someone on the tallest tower and hit them a couple times with my DMR before they jumped. Recovering their body, I looted all the fancy tools and a M4A1 Holo SD (semi-full auto, silenced, grenade launcher, and flashlight). I've never seen this gun before. There is a non-SD, "M4A1 Holo," version listed on DayZ Wiki and DayZDB but everyone who comments indicates they found a silenced version. Anyway, basic question; is this legit?

Does your server have working tents or vehicles? [1.7.2.5]
Obsolescence posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Do any servers have working tents/vehicles in 1.7.2.5? My friends and I are bored because we got all our gear but dont have anyway to store more. I know many/most servers are having trouble but I was hoping yall could suggest some working servers if there are any. We live in Texas so looking for U.S. servers. Thanks! -
If is it hacked should I throw it away? Normally I bury hacked guns but this thing is a beastly dream.

I logged in today to find my character laying on his side, unable to move, but no unconcious timer.I can turn on NVGs and switch weapons but I do not seem to be able to do anything or go anywhere. Has anyone else encountered this, and if so, what should I do to fix it? I can give more info if necessary.

Re-Zero'ing A Sniper Rifle Should Include Animation
Obsolescence posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'd like it if the zeroing system were improved. I see one of two posssibilities as being the best way to change the current zeroing system... 1) Add an animation to changing the zeroing on a rifle, 3 - 5 seconds long, which takes the player out of their scoped view, allowing the target an chance to escape sight. 2) Manual Zero'ing - Hard-core players will love this. Instead of the zeroing settings being automatic, force players to actually zero their own scopes/sights manually. This adds danger because they will have to fire their weapon several times to get the zeroing accurate which could draw attention. It also makes each weapon a little more personal because when you pick one up you won't know what it is zero'd to automatically. -
Re-Zero'ing A Sniper Rifle Should Include Animation
Obsolescence replied to Obsolescence's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Y'all know you don't have to change the zero'ing for each and every shot, right? Normally I leave my AS50 to 400m and just adjusted my aim rather than zeroing unless I'm going for 700m+ I don't see what is wrong with requiring a tool to change the zeroing on a gun (depending on scope) or forcing people to leave scoped mode to change it. Adjusting your aim is what you do on the fly, while shooting. Adjusting your zeroing is what you do in-between shooting events. Even a 1 second animation to adjust zeroing would incentivize this. -
I can't stand carrying two primary weapons. I hate never having room in may bag to pick up anything or drag it back to my tent. So my question is, if you were using a single primary weapon loadout, would you go with AS50 for super-long range sniping and 1-hit kills or DMR for 20 round clip, smaller profile, and night-time sniping? Also, if you really think 2 weapon loadouts are best, can you give a brief rundown of what you should be carrying? Number of clips for each? Number of morphine/pain pills? Food? Water? Etc... I never feel like the 2 weapon loadout has inventory room to do anything but PvP, but maybe I'm doing it wrong. Thanks for the help!

In my opinion you shouldn't be able to loot your own body, even if you make it back in time. Each character is supposed to be an independant human. A new person who lands on the beach would have no way of knowing that at location [063,054] there is a dead body with this, this, this, and that on it waiting to be looted. The whole idea that a players tents, vehicles, and body are retained after death is stupid. It should all disappear or be inaccessible to the player.

Tents and vehicles are broken. I'm getting bored gearing all the way up and having nothing to do except kill unsuspecting players, or die, and even when I kill others I just leave their shit on the body because I have no where to put it. Anyone else reverting?

Server population really dropping off
Obsolescence replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Maybe it has to do with the fact that 1.7.2.5 ruined tents, vehicles, and left the gfx bug unaffected right before the devs took 3 weeks off. -
Should we email Heinz?

You know BIS has a lawyer or two, don't you? If they used it and just hoped no one ever found out they'd be opening themselves up for significant lawsuits/settlements years down the road. -
What happens to/with British Soldier Uniforms if you downgrade to 1.7.2.5?
Obsolescence posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My friends and I are bored playing 1.7.2.5, because they broke tents and vehicles. I was wondering if anyone knows what will happen if we downgrade to 1.7.2.4 because one of us is wearing a British Soldier Uniform and the other is holding one in inventory. I ask because as far as I know, the British Soldier Uniform is new to 1.7.2.5. Thanks for the help. -
What happens to/with British Soldier Uniforms if you downgrade to 1.7.2.5?
Obsolescence replied to Obsolescence's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Oh, I hope they aren't hacked in. We just assumed they were legit. We found a couple in an isolated tent and just assumed they must be new to 1.7.2.5 because neither of us had seen them before. I figured they drop off helicopter crash zeds, but if anyone can confirm that they are hacked we'd be happy to drop them. They are pretty cool. If they aren't legit they should be. AS50/M107 used against light armored infantry?
Obsolescence replied to Darkwater (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I believe these rifles are used against humans primarily when extreme range is necessary / preferred. I believe it still holds record for longest confirmed kill at 1.6-1.8km in Afganistan. -
I always play alone, I always shoot on sight, and I always expect to be shot on sight. Despite all of that I've never once needed anyone to administer a blood transfusion. Probably because I refuse to disconnect in battle or when mobbed by zeds, so any encounter either results in my swift death or their swift death but never a lingering so terrible that I can't crawl my way out of there and eat a cow for 6,400 blood. That said, I do wish there was a side channel. What better way could there be to trick wide-eyed friendlies into revealing themselves? What more entertaining medium could there be for enjoying their stream of conciousness QQing when I deliver the harsh reality of the zombocalypse.

I recently acquired an M16 ACOG and I was wondering what yall thought was the best secondary or second primary to go with it. Currently I was planning on using: 1st Primary: M16 ACOG (for close range burst and shots <300m) 2nd Primary: M24 (for shots >400m or sniping) Secondary: M9 SD Thoughts? Concerns? All is appreciated...

Magic white blobs at side of screen

I wish these would only show up in 1st person view. You don't need to see things out of the corner of your eyes if your eyes are currently hovering a meter behind your head. -

Is a sniper better off with a DMR or M107/AS50? I'm not talking about snipers sitting at NWAFB all day making 1Km+ shots. Im talking about loners or people roaming with a group.

Spawning on coast when switching servers? READ THIS
Obsolescence posted a topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I've been trying to puzzle out what is going on with spawning on the coast when switching servers. I now believe that this is due to different server build version numbers (the 5 digit number normally next to the DayZ version number, e.g. 95389). I've noticed that when I switch between two servers using two different server build versions, I spawn on coast. As long as I stay in the same server build number, I'm fine and my position is retained no matter how many severs I switch between. I haven't yet been able to tease out whether or not a specific server version number is causing the issue, but I've had great success not spawning on the coast anymore since I began following this rule. Please let me know if you think my understanding is flawed or if there is a better workaround for this issue. -
Spending some time up north around NWAFB and suddenly I noticed I'm losing 3 blood per second, just as you would expect to if you caught the infection, except that I'm not coughing. Should I bother to try and get antibiotics? what is the best way to do this? Just go to hospitals and cross fingers?

Should I update Arma II to latest version or server version?
Obsolescence posted a topic in New Player Discussion
I just started using DayZCommander. Great program, everyone should be using it! My question is whether it is better (more stable) to always run the latest version of Arma II, regardless of what the version is on the server I use, or if it is better (more stable) to run the same Arma II version as the server I'm playing on? For instance, the server I'm playing on uses DayZ 1.7.2.5 and Arma 95948. However, now there is a new Arma version (96015). So if I want everything to go as smoothly as possible should I update to 96015 or stay on 95948 until my favorite server updates? Thanks for all the help! -
Take the cost of Arma II CO (~$30 USD) and divide that cost by the number of hours you think you might sink into this game in a 4 month period (Oct'12-Nov'12 is ETA of standalone). Even if you only play for 40 hours before the standalone comes out that's $30/40hrs=$0.75/hr. Now go compare that to any other form of entertainment you enjoy, weep, and then BUY IT NAO!

Clumping tents and/or vehicles = bad Not placing tents and/or vehicles in pine trees = bad If you were building it for a screenshot then it looks great. If you were building it to serve as a reliable location to save your gear I'm afraid you'll soon be saying FFFFUUUUUUUUUUU...

Pretty certain I just read an interveiw with Rocket at GamesCom where he said the standalone will be on Arma II engine a mix of the Arma II and III engine with unique extras to boot, and not Arma III like we had suspected.
