  1. I was wondering if anyone could help clarify how loot respawns: 1) Does all of the loot respawn every so often? Is it a server-wide refresh or a building-wide refresh? 2) If the loot does respawn every so often, how often? Every hour, 2 hours, etc.? 3) Or, does only loot respawn if loot has been taken. For instance, if I loot one pile will that pile respawn but not the rest of loot piles in the building? I'd appreciate any help with this. I looked at the wiki but didn't see anything answering my questions. Thanks!

It's cute how thoroughly you revealed yourself as someone who can't read.
  3. Can anyone explain what just happened? Playing with 1.7.2.6 and latest A2. I was up north with Ghillie, SVD Camo, M9SD, CCO SD, Coyote Backpack, NVGs, Rangefinders, GPS, etc... the works. Then, upon entering a server, I see my death message before I even get control of my character. Fearing the worst, I alt-f4 in some vain hope that maybe I can escape this. When I join another server, I choose my gender (male) and spawn near Kamenka with my Ghillie suit on, but nothing else (not even a flashlight, bandage, painkillers, etc). Can anyone explain what may have occurred? My friend has also spawned on the coast with nothing but his former outfit but I cant remember if he died or saw the message beforehand (for him it has happened wearing everything but civilian clothing, including the British soldier uniform). Please help! Did I do something wrong or do you just run this risk if you wear any alternate clothing?
  4. Good to know I should be able to get my body, but last night it happened just before I had to sleep. Sad day.
  5. People hording gear are typically duping that gear. Duping makes AS50s, NVGs, and Ghillies more common than soda. Need I say more?

Make hacking LEGAL - read before rage

I read the whole OP; still the dumbest suggestion I've seen on the forums ever.

Should we remove barbed wire in the next update

I hate to comment on this issue because I no longer seem to be affected by the glitches. I'm fine with removing it until the glitches are fixed but I like it in the game. It's so frustrating when you find yourself boarded off from the loot you were coming to collect.

If they would only implement a 30-120 second delay when someone logs, robbing someone might be possible rather than killing them, however, if you tell them that you'll let them live if they give you item X, they'll just log. I'd might just rob someone rather than kill them if I felt there was a decent/reliable way to do it.

Lots of people kill others when their back is turned. Few of them create a thread on the New Player Discussion forum to warn people that this happens. Specifically, it seems after bandit skins were reintroduced people started trusting others if they weren't in a bandit skin. I don't go out of my way to murder as many people as I can so I've never acquired the bandit skin even though I certainly deserve it based on my playstyle. I figured it couldn't hurt and might even save a few lives to come on here and talk about it. If you would have rather me just kept on murdering people without giving any kind of warning I could have done that just as well. Just because you see my behavior as ass-like doesn't make me give a damn what you think, or adopt your sense of propriety. You'll be dead, and I'll be off on an adventure using your gear.
  10. Have two beans. Funniest post I've seen today.
  11. Is "bandi" your pet-name for bandits? Were you trying to save yourself typing the final letter? Just a random typo? And, yes.

I think I might be a sadistic player

If he/she/it did do it in real life, what would you talk to them about afterwards? It sounds as though you would respect them more for it. Do you respect people who kill 15yr boys in real life but not in DayZ? That's kinda fucked up. We can all be short-sighted assholes on the forums. Have some compassion for the other real human beings you are communicating with... then we will talk.

Great point lol. When I mentioned being able to rate people based on in-game interactions and having only 1 profile/name per account, I completely forgot that people could penalize you for forum posts. That could be an issue! Have my beans!

I see no evidence or rationale to suggest that ammoral sociopaths would be any more likely to die in the initial stages of a real-life apocalypse, zombie or otherwise, and you haven't provided any.

For me, fun is seeing my Day X counter go +1. Fun is surviving another encounter with a stranger. Fun is finding that piece of loot I've been itching for on a corpse made fresh by my bullet (or someone else's bullet, I'm not picky ;) ). You are right that I'm trying to beat a high score, in some sense, that doesn't exist, but honestly what else is there to do in Dayz or any game for that matter? We're all going to die one day in real life. The idea of trying to tie substantial meaning to any of this, video game or otherwise, is rather futile, yes?

When do you think I'm displaying any fear at all? I'm not afraid of my opponent killing me, before or during our "friendly" interaction. Differentially, a coward is motivated by fear and an opportunist is motivated by opportunity. When one of the interactions I've described in the OP occurs, a coward would simply run away from the engagement all together, because the coward is undoubtedly safer far removed from the prescence of others. I'm not pretending to be friendly to avoid "danger or pain," and I'm never the first one to call out, "friendly!," I only respond as friendly when someone else initiates that interaction. The only reason I mimic as a friendly player is to make killing my opponent easier and less risky to me because that opportunity is better for my primary goals of survival and loot acquirement. A coward takes the path that induces the least amount of fear and risk. I take the path that produces greater reward for less risk. If everyone who takes a path of less risk is a coward then the only non-cowards that exist in this game are fools, continuously firing off their weapons at full-auto while sprinting straight to NWAFB or the closest player they can see. So, BazBake, by your own applications are you a coward or a fool?

Again, as a pragmatic opportunist, I'm not naturally inclined to take a path with a higher risk/reward ratio. Even if I feel survival is too easy, there is no pragmatic rationale to just make things artificially more difficult on myself by attempting to communicate with or trust strangers. As I mentioned in the OP, this situation only occurs when I'm a freshspawn, because up north once I'm geared everyone is KoS anyway, so there is no opportunity for this kind of behavior. I do enjoy challenge in my video games. I like overcoming those challenges as effeciently as possible. My only goal is to survive, get loot, and kill anyone who stands as an obstacle to my two primary goals. If communicating with strangers or cooperating with them provided me with a greater ability to survive or get loot I would certainly do so. However, in my experience strangers will only kill you or get you killed, and even if niether of those occur I will be penalizing myself by not taking the loot they have that I don't.

    ACHIEVEMENTS

Generation Easy-Mode likes having ACHIEVEMENTS. This is the ACHIEVEMENT suggestion thread. Please suggest ACHIEVEMENTS to help Generation Easy-Mode feel justified playing our game. Submissions that recieve beans will be added to the original post with the poster's handle. I'll start to establish format: ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED Die without finding a weapon. ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED Die while eating a can of beans. ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED Complain on forums about things working as intended. ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED Collect every tool and gadget. Killed by sniper you never saw. ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED Kill someone you had convinced you were a friendly. ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED Revenge kill someone who killed you. ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED Shoot someone who then Alt-F4s, only to bleed out on a different server.

Stop saying "friendly" and immediately trusting me

The dawn of man and a massive die-off cannot be presumed to necessarily produce the exact same evolutionary/social strategies. Actually, I agree more with your point in a real-world setting and when looking at a macro picture of the scenario, but individual interactions that don't take place with any witnesses would not function similarly. You can only attack the group and become the other if some mechanism 'outs you' as 'the other.' If me and one survivor interact, and I can kill him without anyone else knowing, what risk or consequence is there for killing him, taking his shit, and just joining the "fluffy care bears" later when I'm no longer alone? This is why I hope the standalone will only allow 1 account/profile name per account. Even if I play on the same server, and generally with the same strangers every day, if at some point people catch on to the fact that I'm a friendly poser, I can just change my name and anonymity here we go again. Forcing people to stick to one moniker will increase the risk of being an asshole to people. Also, I think it might be fun if DayZ allowed people to go to the users profile and write 'reviews' of the player (vote on whether they are more hero or bandit, and provide a description of your interaction with them). Of course, this suggestion may be open to abuse or harrassment, but I believe without some way of chaining a users action to the players reputation, there will be no effective counter to douche-baggery.

Well obviously a "humanity" number doesn't make any difference. Have you considered that perhaps in a real zombie apocalypse, there may be no consequences for the actions of amoral sociopaths?

Stop saying "friendly" and immediately trusting me

True, and I don't go out of my way to kill every person I see. That would only increase my risks. The situations I'm referring to in the OP only occur when I'm a new spawn and I meet someone with some gear.

Again, I'm not a monster, I'm a pragmatic opportunist. I have no philisophical or moral qualms with cooperation or mutualism. I've played 900+ hours of L4D/2 in my lifetime (a game where cooperation and teamwork is essential). The problem is that in DayZ there is no benefit to cooperation with strangers. If my goal is to live as long as possible or kill those who try to kill me, I literally have nothing to gain from grouping with strangers except an early death. I partially think this is because survival is too easy and communication is too difficult. Nobody who has played more than a couple days dies from starvation or dehydration, and randomly bumping into strangers is not a good way to find like-minded individuals. Also, being able to change your player name at any time negates the ability to build a reputation as an asshole who should be shot on sight. If in my experience, playing nice with others benefitted me more, believe me, I would be doing it.

Did those "friendlies" I shot in the head have honor? I swear I swiped almost every item off their dead corpse but I never saw any honor. And I'm not a coward, I'm an opportunist. When you say, "friendly," I hear, "if you say friendly back to me, I'll turn around and let you shoot me in the head and take all my stuff." I never had any intention other than killing you and taking your shit. When you say, "friendly," it just presents me with a less risky method to the same end. A coward would run away. A coward would say, "friendly," because they're scared of losing their shit. I was perfectly content to have a firefight and risk death. You just provided me with a better opportunity. There is a trail of 'honorable' corpses in my wake, therefor, from my perspective 'honor' is not a selected trait in a post-apocalyptic zombie hellscape.

Will female skins ever be viable?

I dont understand why, for the ghillie at least, they dont just let them use the male model. It isnt as if you can or should be able to tell what sex someone is in a ghillie anyway. At first glance you couldnt tell if chewbacca was a boy or girl (without knowing beforehand). Why would it need to be different when wearing a wookie suit? :)
