Can't you just shoot them in the head?
Obsolescence replied to Obsolescence's topic in New Player Discussion
I'm giving you beans because this piece of evidence is great, but this document actually supports my point. Please see my references within the document. I've included summaries in case you are still to busy to read the document you are using as evidence. Please read: Pg. 3 - Third paragraph: Explains that two shots to the body is to be expected on average to incapacitate (but not kill). Pg. 8 - First sentence: "With the exception of hits to the brain or upper spinal cord, the concept of reliable and reproducible immediate incapacitation of the human target by gunshot wound to the torso is a myth." Pg. 8 - Second paragraph: Reviews the ways in which a target can be physiologically incapacitated (note the last sentence detailing direct heart shots). Pg. 8 - Last paragraph: Details how psychological, emotional, and chemical factors can prevent incapacitation (including basic adrenaline). Pg. 9 - Fourth paragraph: Explains that a bullet will not knock you down, and that this has been a known fact for "hundreds of years." Pg. 13 - Last paragraph: Explains the phenomena of people falling down as dependant of whether they realize they've been shot (and that this phenomena is independent of caliber). Pg. 16 - All paragraphs: Please take a look at this section because each of the three paragraphs covers why we shouldn't expect zombies, much less people, to be insta-gibbed by a single shot to the chest. -
Dangit. I didn't read all the pages and they already apologized. Good job US 88! Also, I'd like to say Austin is full of win. I know your guys made a mistake and all, but you coming to help sort it out is way above and beyond! For this you have my beans.

Unless our characters are supposed to be reincarnated it seems stupid that we would be able know where a tent was placed by a random person (our dead character). Just remove tents upon character death and fix duping. Problem solved and game shifted from Hoarders to Survivors.

DayZ almost literally unplayable

I'm not sure what is going on with your movement, but otherwise everything you described is working as intended. 1) People don't want to talk to you because everyone is worried someone else will steal their beans (and no you can't steal mine either). Not to mention they need to be within 40m to use direct communication voice/text. 2) You don't want to see anyone, trust me. If you see another person, there is at least a 20% chance you are about to die. If another person sees you, there is at least an 80% chance you are about to die. 3) Buildings you can enter or loot will in almost have cases have open doors or windows that you can look through into the inside rooms. Look for those tell-tale signs. 4) Especially early on, when unarmed, getting past the zombies is challenging. Don't try too hard. If they find you and you die you may spawn at a much easier starting point. 5) Scrape the zombies chasing you off by zig-zagging around obstacles like trees, brushes, fences, buildings, or running up steep hills (hold the alt button to enable free looking while running). Don't expect this alpha version of a soon to be full game to hold you hand. Members of generation easymode may not be able to handle this game in its current version. -
Da fack happend to the M1911

I was doing headshots to begin with. Even when the revolver took 2 body shots. Why spend 2 bullets when only 1 is necessary? -
I agree. Does anyone really expect him to crawl all the way to the hospital just to save a few clips of enfield? He's effectively dead already. He isn't escaping to preserve his life, and for all we know the alt-f4 wasn't even necessary because it sounds like the guy wasn't even paying enough attention to turn around and shoot him. Excellent story! Enjoyed your commitment to banditry.

You have a silent weapon -_- Why would all of your shots not be headshots? If it takes you 4 - 5 rounds to take down a zed then you are doing it wrong, I'm afraid.

This game is meant to be a realistic zombie apocalypse simulation. You are deaf in real life and thus will be deaf in the simulation. Will it make surviving more difficult? Yes. Will it be less realistic? No. I don't want to sound chavalier or insensitive, but this is according to facts as you've presented them. Enjoy the challenge =) I sometimes play with the sound off when I'm watching a movie. Stick to low population servers if you're scared. Otherwise, go @#$! some people up! I'd recommend looking around at various guides / wikis to give yourself an extra edge. Also, check out DayZDB Map. Make sure to read the second line that appears when you first spawn to locate yourself. Good luck out there. And stay away from me! Nobody takes my beans... nobody!

Can't you just shoot them in the head?

The players appear to be wearing bullet proof vests, and even if they weren't go look up some news stories about the police shooting people. It can often take more than 2 rounds to kill someone (I think the officer put 4+ in the guy in Florida who was eating people's faces). There is a video on youtube where an officer puts 2 rounds in a giant man and he still chases the cop down and beats on him. Sure, 2 rounds may knock someone unconcious and leave them bleeding out, but unless you hit a vital organ with one of those two shots you are probably going to need a third if you want to make them dead right then. The problems you described have no relevance to me because: 1) I don't make your initial mistake of aggroing everything in sight (5 zombies) 2) If I do aggro 5 zombies, I run away and try to scrape them off on obstacles - as anyone would in real life. 3) I am not incapable of shooting things in the head, when I choose to shoot. 4) I don't forget to take morphine when I go to the NW Airfield I salivate at the idea of having my leg broken at the NW Airfield and being forced to choose between suicide and crawling for hours or begging someone for help, but it probably won't ever happen to me, because I don't show up unprepared, aggro everything in sight, foolishly decide to shoot instead of run, and then cry that my game hasn't been properly watered down for my delicate taste. Welcome to DayZ. -

I didn't find it disturbing at first, and gleefully clicked on the link to Rocket's reply to this change - happy and content to read his response playfully mocking the whiners for not being able to deal with it. I only became horrified once I realized that he seemed to be sympathetic to their belief that the 1911 and other guns be able to put down absolutely everything in 1-2 hits on the body. -

I don't know what a dinknose is, so you may be correct. As to why you should have to shoot an infected human in the head: I was under the impression that these zombies exibited "rage" qualities (running, screetching, above average strength, and a high or infinite tolerance for pain). If they don't feel pain then you can only disable them by 1) causing them to lose enough blood so that their muscles won't function 2) disabling the brain/-stem so that signals can't be sent to the muscles 3) damaging the lungs and waiting for it to asphyxiate, I do see your point there. That is a detriment to the gameplay that isn't related to challenge or difficulty. -
Since you seem to know all the ins and outs of Rocket's business, can you explain why his linked-in profile only lists him as employed at Bohemia since Jan 2012? Source: http://cz.linkedin.com/in/rocketkiwi

Can you store an empty backpack in your equipped backpack?
Obsolescence posted a topic in New Player Discussion
The subject says it all but I'll elaborate... I've been runing around trying to collect as much basic gear for my new friend as I can, but I was wondering if I come across a good backpack is there anyway to bring it with me for him? How many slots would it take up if possible? Thanks, as always, to the great community here! -
I have a friend who is going to join me in a couple hours (first time), and I was wondering is it possible to store a 2nd primary weapon in my backpack or something to give to him when he gets on? I was planning to give him my revolver but then I saw someone say on the forums that they had 2 different AKs. Thanks, as always, for the help.

Trading Diablo 3 Gear ( Wizard lvl 60-63 Elemental resistance ) for endgear (NVG, RF, M24, ghilli, m107)

I always thoroughly enjoyed Diablo II hardcore, but hardcore D3 really ruined it with some of those insane champion combos. Play DayZ, like me, instead to get your gaming adrenaline fix. -
Can I play DayZ and Watch A Movie On 2nd Monitor?
Obsolescence posted a topic in New Player Discussion
Whenever I try to play DayZ and watch a movie on my two monitors the video stops playing (but the audio continues). I've encountered this with other games, but I was wondering if anyone knows a way around this aside from playing in window mode. Thanks for your help DayZ fans! -
You were testing out the sights on your newly aquired compound crossbow in a red roofed barn north of Cherno when I crouched-walked up behind you, to my surprise, and shot you in the chest with an AK when you turned around. I'm not trying to play as a murderer, but when I rounded the corner and saw him, I froze, sitting there questioning what I should do about this situation when you slowly began to turn around. Your shiny crossbow bolt looking in great need of a soft fleshy target to bury itself in. A soft fleshy target like me! With no mic to yell at you and no time to type, I shot you in the chest with 7 rounds of AK, and stole your beans. I am sorry for killing you when it looked like you were new and excited to have a weapon. When do yall decide to pull the trigger, assuming you are trying to be nice to people? Sure I could have tried to back away and run, but he may well have mortally wounded me, and that doesn't seem like a risk I'm willing to take. How do you handle situations where you come upon someone in close quarters? Shoot first, then try to talk on mic?

Can I play DayZ and Watch A Movie On 2nd Monitor?
Obsolescence replied to Obsolescence's topic in New Player Discussion
Thanks for reporting in everyone. I will try updating my drivers. I thought this issue had more to do with the engine the game ran on but apparently I was wrong. -
Last night one server I joined said it kicked me for using some script. I don't remember the specific message. I've only been playing the game for 3 days and have no clue where to even begin if I wanted to script/hack. Now 80% of the servers I join kick me as soon as I hit the lobby. Anyone know what might have happened?

Bohemia and Dayz Devs fail to protect their community
Obsolescence replied to BIOSEMTEX's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've never seen any developer so antagonistic to his player base as Rocket. He has nothing to fear from WarZ. What makes this game special is that it is not a game you play through, it is a game you suffer through (like Demon's/Dark Souls). The fact that WarZ is including "softcore and hardcore modes" tells me all I need to know. -
I wish this game was feasible on the Source engine. I've never enjoyed moving around so much as I do in any Source game.

Can I be using a script without knowing it?
Obsolescence replied to Obsolescence's topic in New Player Discussion
Yeah. Every server says "kicked from game" and I think last night the server that gave me the script warning did say I was banned because of it. I don't remember what server it was, one of the Dallas servers I think. I didn't think much of it because I don't use or even know of any scripts, so I figured it was a glitch or a missclick by a mad admin or something. -
Question for Snipers - Crawling Through Open Fields
Obsolescence posted a topic in New Player Discussion
Hi everyone. This is my first post. I've only been playing for a couple dayz (harhar) and I was wondering whether it is better to run or crawl through an open field if I'm worried about sniper fire. I've noticed in this game, like many others, that the grass doesn't render as far as entities (players, animals, etc). So, if I crawl through a field how easy would it be for a sniper to spot me without his scope and then zoom in to just shoot through the grass where he believes me to be? Ultimately, I'm wondering if faced with crossing an open field is it better to zig-zag run or slowly crawl? Thanks and good luck out there! -
Question for Snipers - Crawling Through Open Fields
Obsolescence replied to Obsolescence's topic in New Player Discussion
My understanding was that the grass is drawn when the sniper zooms in on you, just not while no-scoping. Is that not true?
