Entire SE 19 just got killed by a hacker (or something)

Server down... :/ -
I didn't see any mention of it either actually, some pretty nice assets though, but yeah no mention. You can get it up to over 80x80km if you want, or even more, but it lag a bit with current gen computers, yeah. But if you've seen my post previously that a map slightly larger than Chernarus is perfectly possible as I tried it with a height map extracted from arma 2 (albeit with no objects yet due to time constraints, but those scale very well and are quite optimized :))

[DayZMod] The Dayz Statistics thread!
hulahuga replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Did we ever receive this btw??? (also noticed that you could just compare number of people killed to number of murders to get the pvp count ;)) Btw, could OP please add all the stats to the first post with an edit or two? -
My story and why people kill too much.

Me2, for sure. I think there are some threads about that in the suggestion forum... :) -

Nice story man. Too bad you are going noob pvp:ing ;). There is a lot of pvp in all the major cities and at the NW airfield though, at times, on the right servers... -
I know, and that is a bit of an undertaking. But you should also consider that IF you now want to replicate Chernarus, or some other location, you just take a satellite shot with arbitrary colors, defining vegetation/ground type, then apply these as a ground type in CE3, and then just put the vegetation on auto (very easy way to do this, those of you who know your way around CE3 will know what I am talking about), and then add the buildings. Not too much work really. Am I saying I'm trying to make money out of this, then please inform me ;). The qestion of the thread is if CE3 can handle a map/game this size, and obviously it shows some clear signs of doing that ;). Every engine can't btw...
-
Cheers man! Aight, so I did some testing. I have now imported the 16 bit heightmap into CE3 onto a ca 16kmx16km map, and set the water level to 365m (had to since the height map didn't go to absolute black). And the result is: Chernarus, only 1km larger both north and south (something that can be easily fixed), loading perfectly fine, I can edit and play in it as I see fit. It is of course a large map, but even on very high I don't have any performance issues at all :) The only thing that one has to do now to properly test it is to add a similar number of objects and do some optimization, both whilst adding the object in terms of object types (brush vs entity) as well as tweaking the lod and visibility range :). To then play it in multiplayer would probably be quite easy, especially if you introduce a node based system for the server load if you want a very high amount of players.

I just emptied a full mp5 clip from 5 meters distance in a guy's chest (who shot me upon seeing me). He had an m1911 and killed me, whilst I just sprayed him completely to no avail. The same goes for damage against zombies with some weapons, it has just grown too nerfed right now... The MP5 is currently completely useless...

Suggestion: rebalance game with realistic weapon performance/damage.

Wait a minute, i don't think you have read my post properly actually... 1. My dad visited a show where they did just that, so I don't understand what you are talking about here, seems completely unrelated to the point I was making. 2. I never said military ammo would have hollow points in Sweden, because as I said it would break governing international laws. However, what I pointed at was AK ammo, which actually very often, and even as the standard ,according to wikipedia at least, uses hollow point. 3. Yes, I agree :).One thing of note here is however stopping power compared to damage output against a human body... 4. Hunting rifles should use hollow point by default because that goes with governing laws on hunting, as said at least in Sweden. Solids are only used as practise bullets. 5. Hollow is hard, but not un-provable. -
Realistic weapon drops and amounts! Hunting rifles should be more common than AKs!
hulahuga posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Hey there guys and gals. If DayZ strives towards any form of realism then weapon drops should also strive towards being realistic. Currently you almost never find any form of hunting rifles (scoped and otherwise) whilst in reality these populate farmsteads and deer stands to a very high degree, and at times residential areas. Pistols and small side arms should be in residential areas, some in deer stands. And military weapons should be a lot less common, and only to be found in some locations, or with very low chances in residential areas. So these are my suggestions in the hopes of improving the realism of the game: Larger variety of hunting rifles and other forms of more common weapons. Hunting rifles and shotguns should be more common in the game and exhibit the main guns used, or at least found, to a larger extent (just like in real life). Military weapons should be in highly specialized places, or with very very low chances of dropping in residential areas. EDIT: Some, very few, zombies should carry weapons.- 36 replies

Good suggestions both of you. Max - I think that if you look at the current military weapons, their main difference is simply their attachments, except for sniper/assault/mg/smg, so why not add more attachment variants to the civilian rifles as well? Some suggestions apart from other version of what we already have (i.e different scopes, calibres, and assorted attachments...) .32, one of the most common pistol variants. .22 long, very common starting rifle, or just marksman practise. .44 magnum, says itself. Ruger mini-14 (http://world.guns.ru/civil/usa/ruger-mini-14-e.html) Saiga, seeing it is in the old east block (http://world.guns.ru/civil/rus/saiga-e.html) -

As some others say some things you complaina bout are already simulated in the game, but the most other things I tend to agree on (though weapon noise is already god damn loud for the sniper right now). However, you've missed a couple of things. Well first and foremost the airdrag of the bullet generated by its shape, velocity and angle actually affect the fatality of it. If you actually fire a round with the big ass sniper rifle over a bunker wall, with a sheep behind it, you are going to break the back of the sheep, not by hitting it, but by the drag itself. So I don't really understand how you thought when you said the as50 shouldn't be a 1 shot one kill weapon... or the dragonouv and other snipers to do such low damage. You also have to consider the effect hollow and solid (is this the right word for it?) point ammunition has on tissue on impact and the general shape of the bullet to properly calculate the damage. If you would get a hollow point shot in the chest from an assault rifle I think you would be pretty dead unless it hits in say the shoulder, but even then you would probably die from blood loss quite soon. (That considered, hunting rifles generally use hollow point, or actually HAVE to use it, in Sweden at least, so the CZ should have that whilst say an AK or M16 or something shouldn't, perhaps, if you count governing international legislation). -
Well Zen, don't know if you checked the vid or not, but you can actually hit with it so...

+1! There are a lot of other threads on this though...

So, let's get factual. What civilian weapons would we like to add then? -
More than enough, but is it real? :P But yeah, I wont push that one too much but still...
-
Well realistically you could have two holsters for pistols and a rifle with no issue on you at the same time...

So one thing that has been bothering me a bit is how the game has zombies and everything, and we know from the lore and information that an apocalypse has erupted and that we now live in the aftermath/during it. But hardly nowhere around me do I see traces of it to a sufficient degree. Currently in the game there are some dead bodies glitching out the graphics in some tows, and some burned out trucks and roadblocks (along almost every frigging road rendering many of the near unusable, no one has thought of making us actually make our tank traps useful?). There are no destroyed buildings, no craters, no burning tanks, no defensive positions with zombie bodies strewn around them, no military bunkers with commanders, now dead, having tried to make a last stand before falling to the ultimate sacrifice, basically nothing that points significantly to a real apocalypse having taken place. In my opinion some more work on the map (of course incremental, given the maps quite huge scale) would significantly improve the feeling of the game, create more oppurtunities for cover and interesting movements/firefights and also do a great bit to further improve the immersion and authenticity of the game. Would love to hear what your thoughts are on this, and if you have any suggestions then feel free to say them! :)

What? If people hit each other from a bit of snow on the streets, then what do you think will happen if they face a zombie horde running towards them? Also, tanks WOULD roll out if that was what it took to try and make the cities safe... They do it even if there is a severe terror threat so...

the vid where they check it. It actually works...
-
With lower accuracy it could actually be useful with the extra brunt firepower from the increased rate of fire in dangerous situations...

Implement this!!! =)
