The most up-to-date ARMA 2 and ARMA 2:Operation Arrowhead. You need both, or the "Combined Operations" Pack which obviously includes both. If you have them on Steam, they will be up-to-date. If not; get the latest updates from: http://www.arma2.com/index.php?Itemid=20&option=com_rokdownloads&view=folder〈=en

With sixupdater you basically only have to do one thing. Launch the program, select a server and attempt to join it. Sixupdater should update all of your files to match the selected server.

What are the controls for melee weapons?
chrispow replied to Nightmare_Pwner's topic in New Player Discussion
Watch out for crawlers. I haven't yet figured out how to effectively hit a crawler before that thing magically bites me 3 times without an animation. :P -
Primary. @knallfix "gun" slot isn't very specific :P

I don't know if that is an intended feature though. If it is, then I agree that there has to be a change. In .4, I've noticed a few zombies that seem to bug out and spot me regardless of situation, but most of them seem to react only if I make a lot of noise by running around. I'm fine with the latter. Yes, your feedback is just as relevant. I'm simply asking what people want this mod to be. Prior to this patch, I felt that it was too easy to survive... around zombies, regarding food, thirst, blood, weapons, ammo. After the patch, I had to sneak around without any makarov ammo until I found a hatchet and started chopping zombies up while at ~4000 blood! A risky but lovely experience!
-
On your point about high grade ammo--I agree. There is no reason for everybody to walk around with rifles and being able to engage players easily up to 500m.

I'm in LOVE with the new patch. Why shouldn't survival be challenging? It is very possible to survive, even as a "newbie". Don't stand up or run near zombies. Sneak. Run out of line of sight if spotted by a zombie. Use buildings/interiors to help with this. You're not being thrown into a battlefield as a trained soldier with everything in your hand. What do you enjoy about this mod? The slow and scary adventures trying to survive, while worrying about the very real threat of players? Or do you simply want to be handed everything required to survive and then just look for players to fight?

Two days ago I would tell people to buy ARMA for this mod

I totally disagree with the initial post. The game was NOT challenging or punishing. -
Need a better explanation of Storage

Minor tip, but try to use Middle-Mouse for selecting options in the wheel menu. Using left mouse works, but you're using the button that also makes your weapon discharge. If something odd happens, or you accidentally close the wheel menu, and then press it? Yeah, you just shot your friend. Take that for what it is :P Yes, that is a good tip. I've played A2 for a long time and I've never shot while trying to use the menu though! -

Go into the Gear option of the dead player. At the very bottom you should be able to see his backpack with the left and right arrows available. Right arrow to take. If there is room in one of your backpacks, the best choice is for the person number one to walk up behind person number two and use the scroll wheel menu (scroll wheel, left click use) to open the backpack. From there, you can then take and drop items. On the top left of the inventory screen you can see the available slots whenever a backpack is open. For example 0/8 means the backpack is full, 8/8 empty. I don't know the time, but I've seen them despawn. It isn't safe to do. Vehicles and tents. Remember to walk up to your vehicle or tent and press "Save Vehicle" or "Save Tent" whenever you have moved it or made any change. There are a couple of backpacks in the mod. You probably have the 8 slot coyote patrol pack. I've seen 12, 16, 20 and 24 slot. A flashlight/pistol takes up 5 slots. A rifle takes up 10 slots. -
Try Arma 2 Free. It's available on Steam under Arma 2 > Demo. This is the same as the full game but with lower resolution textures. It will give you a good idea if it runs OK.

Before you buy anything: download Arma 2 Free. It's available on Steam (Arma 2 > Demo). This will give you a good idea of how Arma 2 will perform on your PC.

you shouldn't have any winrars inside of your @dayz\addons folder. You have installed the mod incorrectly. Your @dayz\addons folder should contain seven .pbo files and seven accompanying .pbo.dayz.bisign files. A total of 14 files. If the language barrier is a problem, use: http://translate.google.com

Do you own Arma II on steam as well, or as a physical copy? You will need both games installed.
-
What do you mean it isn't playable? I was under the impression that everyone spawns with a torch (flashlight) now.

Keep spawning with almost no gear at all.

This person missed something in the patch notes--big deal! Please don't reply in the "New Player Discussion" if you aren't expecting some dumb, some ignorant and some people who are simply lost. This forum section is here for a reason. -
http://ttp2.dslyecxi.com/basic_rifleman.html If your sights are set to 100m and you are trying to hit a target at 300m this will force you to compensate for bullet drop, thus having to aim above the target. If instead you zero your sights to 300m and engage the same target, the aim should be dead on.

As far as I know, it'll end up where it was last when someone used "Save Vehicle".

20 words or less: Spawning without a weapon
chrispow replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
YES. Fewer rifles too. Pistol should last you A LONG TIME and feels more authentic than everybody having military equipment. -
Game Purchase Only.

I'm all for the new 5 second persistence, but it worries me a little if the server goes on a massive poop and you end up in a zombie situation you can't get out of by no fault of your own. Hopefully the new zombies will make this happen less frequently. Excited! For PVP--this is a great feature!

It is indeed set by the mission. Weather should affect view distance greatly, but it doesn't matter what you set in your options. Since I don't know if the game uses unnecessary power to load higher view distance I've set mine to the lowest possible as it is locked to the mission anyway.

Although this guy wasn't having your problem, he wasn't trying to give you a hard time in the way some others here have. Don't reply to the dicks, and please take it down a notch. Some of us are trying to help you. -
