Hold CAPS to speak. But don't really make friends with anyone you don't know! When you see someone armed that poses a threat to you, just kill him. If you see someone not really posing a threat to you, tell him to back off or you just run from him!

It's not a big difference. I doubt you will be able to run it Maxed out anyway. The only real difference is that it's a little bit harder to install it with the Free version, but there is a tutorial to help you. So yeah, it works. I have it and I can play perfectly normal. Banditry is a type of surviving, but it's stupid and immature to go around and say that you are friendly and then kill someone! And it's also stupid to kill someone who presented themself as friendly. I usually just back off and trust none, but don't kill them.
