Is there a way to spot tents easily? Even when well hidden.
{SAS}DocStone replied to freak367's topic in New Player Discussion
No-one is finding your tents, patch 1.7.2.5 is bugged so that tents will only save once You put up tent (Stage 1) You put gear in tent (Stage 2) You save tent (Stage 3) You put more gear in tent (Stage 4) You save tent (Stage 5) Someone finds your tent, steals everything out of it and saves (Stage 6) Server restarts and tent reverts to Stage 3 After that initial save, no matter what you put in it, or what you take out, after the server restart the tent will revert to it's initial save state. Same goes with vehicles. -
This^ In 1.7.2.5. tents (and possibly vehicles) will only save once after creation. Any subsequent saves will not be stored. So pitch your tent, put your items in it then save. After that save every server restart will result in those items being respawned.

Due to a combination of hackers, no brakes on push-bikes and a certain someone who shall remain nameless (your secret is safe BorderKeeper) getting all excited when the Chopper finally began spawning again and crashing it in the sea on the first night, we are slowly losing the vehicles off our server. Now, I know that they are supposed to automatically return to their default spawn positions after 7 days of inactivity but this just doesn't seem to happen with certain vehicles. We haven't seen the chopper since the very first spawn (looking at you BorderKeeper) and we can see two push-bikes at the bottom of a lake, and they have been there for weeks and weeks. So, basically what I am asking is this: Is there a way to reset every vehicle back to default spawn points?

Vehicle spawn location reset?

Aren't the vehicle locations/status/gear stored on the Hive though? As soon as we reconnected to the Hive with our current details everything would be back to the current state, no? -
Helicopter respawning on Skalisty after server restart
{SAS}DocStone replied to slavegirllucy's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Count yourself lucky, our chopper rolled into the sea two hours after it spawned into the game for the very first time after it was re-enabled and has never respawned since. We also have a few other vehicles at the bottom of lakes that do not respawn either, they just sit there, taunting us :D -
Count me in, and although I voted in the second poll question for an independent board, I would strongly suggest we aim to work very closely with the DayZ Team and get them involved as much as possible. Having them running the show would honestly put me off, there is a lack of trust between the Admin Community and the DayZ Team at the moment and this trust needs to be strengthened on both sides if we are to move forward together. Get them on board by all means, but we have to show them we can be trusted to act fairly and responsibly without them having to threaten us with blacklisting etc, and they have to recognise that a good working relationship with the Admins in the Community is beneficial to us all, and especially beneficial to the player base. This is our chance to prove once and for all that Server Admins are not all 12 year old kids playing with mummy's credit card ;)

Our server has been hit today so many times we are close to giving up. Carpet bombing, heli spawning, mass kills, teleporting, God Mode, leg breaks, satchel charges, insta kills, time and time again today. Worst thing is there is just nothing we can do, it is heartbreaking.

Are you being serious there? We had procon tools for BC2, it showed where players were when they killed another player. Did admins use it to tell their fellow clan members where the enemy was? No, they used it to spot aimbotters doing one shot kills with a pistol or a shotgun from across the map time and time again. I am sick and tired of the abuse admins get when without them you wouldn't have a damn alpha with 1M players, and to see it coming from a DayZ Forum Team Member is even more of a slap in the face. Not all Admins run a server off their parent's credit cards, some actually pay for their own dedicated box, some actually spend more time maintaining the server than actually playing it, and some admins actually take their responsibilities seriously, perhaps you would like to remember that the next time you decide to paint us all with the same brush. You want to be more concerned with the hackers that can flag up every tent and vehicle on the map, can teleport there in a second and then script kill everyone they find there. When Admins ban those players, that's when I laugh, and by god do I laugh heartily. Mind you, the leniency you show the hackers is what I really find hilarious, they are (in your eyes) the lesser of two evils, and seem to be less of a problem than "Rogue Admin". Be careful how you treat your community, because remember, without us you have nothing. -

Do we know if it is the same program that was originally released or has it been modified in any way? Has anyone compared MD5 Hash values? What program identified the virus? What was the virus' signature file? So many questions, and not one single answer. -

Admins need to be able to ADMIN!
{SAS}DocStone replied to mathew.hodgson@hotmail.com's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
What I don't understand is why he is allowing hackers to run riot? We were ranked 5 in the world FFS, 2 in the UK, we are a well run server, and we are now getting fucked over by hackers at will and nothing is being done to help us. Nothing, We are not even being allowed to help ourselves, and that is what I cannot understand. -

Well, there you go, entire server has been "Thunderdomed" and all folk respawning are coming back as dogs. Well, at least the admin aren't on a powertrip eh? Give us some bloody power to deal with this if you can not! -

I don't know where to start with this, so I will be brief. What would you prefer, hackers allowed free reign across every server, or the ability to find hacker free servers run by responsible admin? 75%, Most, I love how people just pick stats out of their arses. -

Agree 100% there sparky, Rocket has built up an incredible momentum with Dayz so far but he is going to risk losing that if some power is not handed to the admins to fight the growing hacker threat. Hell, we have been running servers for over 10 years and they have all been highly respected and properly admined, people know that when they see our name attached to a server they are in a safe place and are almost guaranteed a good gaming experience. Rocket need to let us continue that, to take action against players teleporting everyone to one location then killing them, to ban players spawning in banned weapons and vehicles, to make Dayz something that people will want to play on our server. An example, two guys last night attacked our camp, we had 6 players, all in TS, all geared up, we were completely useless against these two players that teleported, turned invisible and when we did manage top catch them for a second under our crosshairs no names showed up. Out of the 6 players I was the only survivor, but here's the thing. We didn't even know who killed us. We couldn't even look through the logs to find out who it was because they are such a mess. So, whoever it was is free to jump on our server whenever they want and cheat to their hearts content without any consequences. Even if we did know their names, unless we were recording the game at the time there would be nothing we could do, and even then we would have to send the video to the Devs, wait four weeks for them to view it and then see if they took any action. Meanwhile the hackers would still have free reign on our server. If that had happened in any other game, the players would have been identified, confirmed and banned within minutes. Our forum would be open for any appeals, and life would go on as normal, with a happy hack free server. Give us proper admin tools, give us proper admin powers and in return we will give you a safe server for your alpha testers to play on, at no cost to you. You never know, it may actually work. -
A nice and simple idea that doesn't change the game mechanics, doesn't change the look, the feel or the flavour of the game. I love it :D

OK, with the news that choppers are on the way back, it got me thinking. In real life I only know two of my mates who can fly a chopper, I know two that can properly set a broken bone and one guy that could refit an engine in a car or truck. I don't know anyone that could butcher an animal for food and I know I couldn't run for 15 miles without stopping :D So, how about introducing completely random skill sets for each character. At each spawn, a RNG would allocate skill points to certain skills, allowing you to do some things and not others: Pilot Skill - Allows you to fly helicopters Mechanic Skill - Allows you to carry out advanced repairs to vehicles (everyone should still be able to change a tyre) Medic Skill - Allows you to permanently fix broken bones and carry out blood transfusions - morphine would only be a temporary fix for a fracture. Hunter - Allows you to get more meat from a butchered animal and allows you to move with less noise Athlete - Allows you to run faster and longer for your current water/food level Weapon Specialist - allows you to recombine ammo Soldier - damage increase (each talent for each weapon), hp increase, accuracy increase, etc (RapturJesus) Now, not only would this stop every single person on the server from running to get a chopper and kill everyone in the way, but it would also enhance team work and make you think twice before shooting a survivor - what if he is a medic and you need blood? You could be low on ammo and he could be a Weapons Specialist and sort you out. Skills would reset only on death, not on respawn, so no-one could continually try to break bones to respawn and get the coveted chopper pilot skill, and would be truly random, hell you may end up with all of them or none, just like people in real life. Could add another layer to an already deep and rich game, what do you think? Any other classes/restrictions that could be added?

I wanted to stay away from a skill tree with points as such, after all if the zombie apocalypse comes you are stuck with the skill set you have at the time and the chances of getting flying lessons or medic training would be few and far between, so you are stuck with your skill set and you have to make the most of it. If you spawn with medic skills, then if you encounter more survivors the first thing you shout now becomes "I'm a medic, I'm a medic" rather than "Don't shoot, I'm a friendly"". It also adds that edge to the game, what if one of your party respawns and is a Medic and a Weapon Specialist, do you really need the stand alone medic in your group now? :D Make it random, make it set in stone, and keep unlocks and skill trees to RPGs. I do like the added "Soldier" class though, will add in my original post ;)
