Critical Unplanned Update of 0.34 to Stable 7 February 2014
Ramblin Hans replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
Reading through this threads responses, I have come to the conclusion there should be an IQ test to get into the alpha. -
Oh man in the mod, the big metal gates that swing open in towns were leg breakers! Defenders of the Wells. And once my friend and I tried to go through a doorway at the same time...yea.

Thanks guys. I tried running as Admin but that didn't resolve. Will try the other suggestions! -

Amazing cadence on these patches. This sounds great! -
It's pretty game breaking right now not having this.

What are your biggest concerns and fears regarding the near/far future of the game?
Ramblin Hans replied to joe_mcentire's topic in General Discussion
Two main fears for me. First, that it strays away from the open field, no safe zone, complete item loss standard. This I could see happening due to the increased popularity and pressures from the new wave of players thinking this is Left 4 Dead 3. Secondly, they never really get a server/cluster based community started. I wan't to see rivalries, grudges, alliances, and friendships that develop over months and years instead of the anonymity of killing nameless people without reason then just popping over to a new server to find more to do the same to. I don't want server/game based rules to create this, I want the players to create this. But to do so they need ways to identify each other and have some reason to stay within the community (server?) boundary. Like Darktide, if anyone gets that reference :) -
Sounds like you had plenty of warning, lol. You have to protect yourself first.

Chernarus Survivor Census - the CSC
Ramblin Hans replied to Survivor_Sabre's topic in General Discussion
Good poll, and interesting results so far. I was torn between answers I think 5 and 6 on question 3. I will usually try and talk if I can almost anywhere, but it has nearly gotten me killed a number of times. However, in airfields and military installations, experience tells me no one is there to make friends. People who shout "friendly" really mean they don't want to die and they have the disadvantage, probably they would not hesitate to shoot had they seen you first. And its shocking how many people literally just sit in corners in barracks/camo airfield buildings waiting for someone to open the door. In these places, if I need to try and find something there (which is generally why I'd be there), I'll drop someone I see before we enter voice range if possible. I have friends I play with, but its always nice to make friends organically in the game. But with the explosion in popularity it seems people trolling is on the rise; I don't want to get played. I usually give what I can spare and keep moving. Not sure how to change that. -
I have left them on since I watched that video when I started playing. I like knowing where I'm at health wise. Yea, you are put at a bit of a disadvantage in terms of your vision vs. someone who has it off. But, I can better judge what my next move should be in some situations. Imagine you exchange gunfire with an enemy in the streets. You know you hit him some and he hit you. But how bad is he hurt? Hard to say. But you know how badly you are hurt and can more easily make a decision to tactically retreat, flee, or press an advantage if you are not really that injured.

What Alpha Is Supposed To Be (A Discussion On Dev Direction And If The Game Will Ever Be Completed)
Ramblin Hans replied to jovlon's topic in General Discussion
Well written post, and one has to acknowledge these are possibilities, even though one might not agree that any of these things are actually going to happen. And there are certainly other possible outcomes. I mainly agree with your statement I look at this like a kickstarter with something you can actually sink your teeth into up front. We play, we enjoy....or we don't enjoy and we don't. I was happy to give the money because the concept is something I am excited about and well worth it just to support it. If it is never released, or never realizes its full potential, I'll be very disappointed. But I will never feel ripped off. -
What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?
Ramblin Hans replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
I haven't seen it yet, and I've played quite a bit of standalone. So my experience is its definitely less than the mod, where it was seemingly inescapable. -
Yea, I'd even just go for trip wires that alert, punji pits, or some small trip snares. So you could get alerted if people are coming into a location.
-
Kind of an off the wall idea, but my friend an I were talking last night and we were thinking of a megaphone. Increases the range for direct comms. It would be cool to see a team of guys roll in with one. "SuperClan XYZ is now putting Cherno under marshall law! If you are caught in the streets with a weapon you will be shot on sight."

I know it's Alpha but I'm gonna moan anyway thread
Ramblin Hans replied to Jonah_Hobbes's topic in General Discussion
Guys, this is an alpha. Twitter confirmed it will be in the full release. Stop complaining. -
Turning up volume = flipping the bird
Ramblin Hans replied to Greenjellie's topic in New Player Discussion
This emote often goes off when I hit CAPSLOCK. Extremely annoying. Trying to voice chat in a crucial situation where you run into someone, not only do I start doing an animation that interferes with my gun aiming...but I'm also flipping off said person. Makes saying "Friendly!" slightly less convincing to say the least. -
In the future, we should be able to create safezones for people to trade, learn and commune in.
Ramblin Hans replied to rydekk's topic in General Discussion
Is this trolling? Or just what 1 million sales does to Dayz? The last things a raw pvp game needs is safe zones sorry, I could never get behind any game/server rules to enfoce them. Now if PLAYERS made this happen, that would be awesome! -
The lack off loot is not right ???
Ramblin Hans replied to africanhungergames's topic in General Discussion
I starved to death in the dark last night. Been a while since that happened! I don't mind, mix it up, see what the best mix of spawns are now...that's why we are in alpha right? -
I consider my $30 bucks (in addition to what I invested in Arma to get the mod) like a kickstarter donation for the coolest concept game I've seen in over a decade. I didn't spend it for art, animations, level design etc...though I have faith that will come. I spent it to be part of one of the coolest, most open ended and uscripted PvP sandboxes ever.

We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits.
Ramblin Hans replied to 1S1K-Airborne's topic in General Discussion
I don't care about hero/bandit labels. But I want someway to tell who shot me / who I'm shooting. That coupled with an end to host jumping is the only way to end the anonymous - server hopping - kos - loot grab - Dayz experience , start a real community forming on each server, and let this thing reach its full potential. Remember that guy who bandaged you? Maybe you see him again and help him out of a jam. Remember the guy who knocked you unconscious, cut you, and took your bandages then left you? Well you survived, guess what you are going to do once you find him. Right now everyoneis just an anonymous person shaped potential threat. It works of if you want to play kos .... but if you want some way to identify those people you know you can trust, by name, through experience... Like I said I'm not talking a system generated label, just nameplates or something. -
Found a copy James Joyce "Ulysses" - nice light reading for the apocalypse.

Servers with connection issues to central hive
Ramblin Hans replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
Thanks for the info and all the responses. Was great playing the patch yesterday, despite these issues. We figured it had something to do with the expanded sub hive support, glad to hear that it will be "fixed" soon (providing server hosters get on their game :) ) -
Ok, we got our issue at least partially resolved. Posting back here to share in case it helps anyone else. The idea came from something my buddy read somewhere else, maybe reddit (sorry I don't know where or I would link), where a theory was this was from items in items...like items in containers. Well, I did have in my inventory 3 of those yellow plastic containers and 2 medkits. Now, I'd had these for quite some time, long before the issue where my friend kept desync'ing near me. But I went to random server, wandered off somewhere secluded, and dropped all of these containers and logged out. Logged back in to the server where we were having the problem, and it vanished. We played for a good 2 + hours after. Now, he did have some additional high desync issues, but it would come briefly and then go. Previously, we couldn't stand next to each other because soon his desync would peg at 100k. So maybe this helps, maybe not.

My friend an I just started having this today. We have tried restarting everything from the app to network layer. We have gone as far as having my friend suicide and respawn, leaving behind all items that might have been bugged, as there was a report that that fixed it for someone. It didn't fix it. He can play fine but desync skyrockets when he gets close to me. We have tried many different servers. We had played fine together on many sessions on many servers. When it started we left a server that had become night, cleanly quit out, and rejoined another. No strange crashes, errors, or other events. I may have to suicide myself next I suppose - hey, its only Alpha! Yolo! Will check back in here, maybe someone else will find a solution / cause.
