Whats the craziest that that has happaned to you in DayZ that people don't belive when you tell them?
Ramblin Hans replied to trimpampano's topic in General Discussion
Was sniping from on top of the tall building in Cherno, with signs on it. Character had been alive for so long, been through a dozen firefights taking hits. Suddenly I take a mistep and "whooop" over the edge. It was such a drop there was time for to tell my partners "Well, I'm dead"..."What? Did you..." "Yea I'm falling". I landed on one of the pipe walkways at the bottom...and took no damage. That character lived on! -
Where did everyone on Hardcore Experimental go...?
Ramblin Hans replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
I demand this server type be put in the full release. -
While that is an option, it is pretty risky. I'd guess that I would lose more stuff this way...the amount of times I die vs. the number of times a server resets "randomly" (read: admin was shot, or admin's clan is looting the airfield) seems out of proportion to take this gamble.

Are AKM 75 Round Drums in Stable?
Ramblin Hans replied to sashaseddon's topic in New Player Discussion
Yes, but they seem to be very rare. Finally found one after many days of searching for a buddy...who promptly lost it due to the contextual wheel deciding he was too far from a door and his 'F' keystroke he wanted to no open the door, but reload his drum mag with a 30 round mag. Without enough room in his inventory, poof. We are about 6 hours into the search for another :P -
Well he has the gorka top that was put in .47...right?

Not a hero or bandit, but sometimes merely an observer?
Ramblin Hans replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
All the time. Since I converted a few months ago to only really carrying a Mosin/LRS and sniping (when not scavenging, exploring, etc), I have found myself doing this ALOT. I will find what I think is a good sniper spot, watch, wait, and observe patterns. Occasionally take a shot and then move to a new spot and repeat, but I have spent hour + in a spot many a time not firing at targets. What type of people come here? What direction do they come from? What kind of gear do they have? What actions do they take...especially how cautious are they, where are they looking at before approaching if possible to tell, and are they aggressive to other players? Extrapolate and theorize, given the above where did they come from and what were they doing at that spot? It's fun learning traffic patterns, don't want to be sitting in a spot where people regularly trek through on their way to somewhere else for example. And many a bandit team have encircled a noob in a building only to suddenly find themselves under fire with one of their buddies dead from an unknown location 800m away :) -

Grenade as a life preservation device - must read

The chance a newspawn would have a grenade: 0% -
No auto-run, this is a skill based game. sarcasm alert

Said it before, will say it again: sound is the number one thing that should be fixed imo. Random sounds really break immersion and spoil the creeping, stalking aspect of the game. In addition, the sound mechanics of gunshots are completely wack, two people standing next to each other can't ever agree on where they heard a nearby gunshot. One hears it one direction, the other in a different direction. More often than not one hears it and the other doesn't hear it at all. Imagine how many times neither of the people hears the shot?

Can you cook anything else in the fireplace? I was able to do meat but couldn't get any of my potatoes to bake. They turned red background, but never became cooked.
-
Thanks for the post, seems obvious in retrospect. Tore up tee-shirt and chopped some kindling to make a splint a fixed it straight away.
-
Yea, while zombies are in some serious need of fixing...it should hopefully make them more plentiful and harder. If zombies are a problem for you now, you will be quite unhappy later on I think. Hells High is right and spot on with his advice, its not that difficult. Heck, just shooting 'em down is no big deal, let those KoS'rs/bandits whatever come get me, who doesn't love a good firefight.

EDITED - PETITION: Should a sound be made when we log on and off?
Ramblin Hans replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
Yes. -
Will we get more realistic gun sounds and be able to hear shots at longer ranges ala Arma III?
Ramblin Hans replied to FrostDMG's topic in General Discussion
The number one thing I think needs to be fixed is sound. First, the constant random sounds no matter where you are, which leads you to disregard ACTUAL sounds of footsteps/reloading because you assume its just more noise. Then secondly, the gunshot sounds are horribly wonky. Everyday I play this scenario - 2+ guys sitting next to each other on the map, on chat. A gun is fired nearby. A) One guy says he heard gunshots, the other says I didn't hear anything. B ) Both hear the shots, but are sure they came from opposite directions C) One thinks the shots are close, the other thinks they are far away For a survival game, with heavy PvP emphasis, accurate sounds should be a given -
No, I'm just saying, if you want to find squad combat, it is available. It appears it is just not happening where you want it to. With such a huge map, there will be areas that are more sparsely populated, its unavoidable. If the goal is to find other groups to fight, concentrating people into a smaller area actually would seem to increase you chance of finding it. Spreading everything out to an even dispersion would make it LESS likely to find.

Only get seriously mad when I make a mistake that gets me, or worse me and my group, killed. Or getting OP mike tyson punched by a new spawn who magically can't be hit by a gun at point blank range. But really don't think I've ever rage quit, maybe put it down for a brief spell.

Isn't "DayZ" quite possibly the dumbest name ever?
Ramblin Hans replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
What a waste of forum space. Who really cares either way...have we seriously run out of things to moan about? -
Yea, it's not clear which it is you want. If you want to find squad combat, go to the "triad" (Berezino, Svetlo, NEAF) and you will find squads to fight. If you want people to migrate en masse north, well you just can't completely control that.

We need more community involvment! Official "Private" Servers?
Ramblin Hans replied to Wayze's topic in General Discussion
Well I think a lot features are controlled through manipulation and tweaks to the central database (hive)...I'd assume if the db's split it might be an issue to make changes to the hive that would be tested immediately by a large set of servers. Could be an issue in "pushing updates" to private servers, depending on how the private hive would be hosted (seperate hosted db vs. segmented central db for private hives)...certainly would add complexity in how database side changes are implemented. I dunno, just speculating. -
Yea, ladders are probably my second leading cause between short-medium range primary firearms.

Are snipers the most harmless thing in DayZ?
Ramblin Hans replied to bauertschi's topic in General Discussion
I've been trying to learn to snipe some. Have learned one area well enough to have about a dozen spots around it with various vantage points ~700-800 out. First I learned to know your spots, and then move after firing a bit. People WILL come look for you. If you see a guy running around in the open who looks like he is trying to draw shots, he probably is. He probably a buddy who is trying to figure out where you are by sound. Its actually amazing how many people wander around out in spots that far away too, have been snuck up on a few times and hunted down other snipers who started firing from near my position as well. Fire sparingly, then move. Once you have your distances practiced, you can start getting kills. Its pretty thrilling watching a target drop on the first shot, and know he may not have even heard the shot. Spent alot of ammo in the beginning of learning lol -
I wouldn't say I was ever broken. I always had the hero skin, tried to be respectful and friendly where appropriate in the mod, and for a while in the stand alone. But, there is little to do but participate in the massive gun and close combat testing that is going on :) Keeps your interest going to try and do different things. At one point we started saying "f it, I'm killing the next guy I see, no questions", but it wasn't one particular incident, if anything just a build up of many senseless deaths, followed by an exhilarating feeling to just mow down two guys that were coming to kill you. I still try to be have respectful and friendly in most locations, but when you go into the hotzone, you know what you are getting into. Creep up on me, expect to get shot. If you are in the "death match triad", I'm going to take a sniper shot if its there. I figure, things will change when the survival challenge goes up for zombies, starvation, and weather, and I'll be much more willing to help people or maybe just avoid people again. But for now it is fun to get in there and mix it up and hone you abilities with firearms for the full game.

Do you want to see personal statistics on death? ex: Killer, kills, shots fired etc...
Ramblin Hans replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
I'd like to see similar stats that the mod had at one time with the debug to see how many zombies you've killed, etc, basic stuff. Gives you something to measure up against for yourself. If you want to see how many zombies you can kill, then try to top it in your next life, whats the harm? I'd also like to see deaths on the server, or at least personal message about who killed me. Seeing many death messages just kinda lets you know whats goin' on around the server, and would only really serve to build tension, which also seems like a good thing. But at least who killed me, I mean you can't even get close enough to talk to most people, so why not SOMETHING to take with you and fix your mind on for revenge (if you want to). -
Oh damn, if I could put a scope, even a PU scope on the Blaze 95, I'd totally use that in Dayz. Sorry for the interruption, continue!
