ADMIN ABUSE US 1058: Help us get revenge!
`Orum replied to DenverDeCoY's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well, I hate to state the obvious, but there's much different between how this game is played and how it was intended to be played. To make it easier to understand I've provided a handy Venn diagram below: As you can plainly see, there is much that takes place in game which is not sanctioned or encouraged by Rocket. For all further inquiries, please refer to the chart. -
This is really the only one of your points listed that I agree should be fixed (as in, changed so that you can drink w/o a canteen when in a pond or near a pump/well). The other things may be unrealistic, but the alternative is worse. Can you imagine if breaking a bone kept your leg broken for a week? Everyone would just respawn. While we can't fill whiskey bottles, the point of them being in the game is to distract zombies when thrown, not for storing liquids.

How do I run arma 2 without uninstalling Dayz?
`Orum replied to Notlim's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I was trying to figure this out too, in order to play ACE 2. Unfortunately, I only enabled ACE 2, and not its dependencies (even though they're installed). Now ARMA 2 crashes on startup. How do I enable the other mods it needs as well, without being able to start the game? -
1.7.2.4 - No Longer Worth It To Sneak Past Zombies
`Orum replied to d00m's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Zombies really need a complete rework. For instance, I was sitting in a forest, behind a tree, when I see a guy poke his head out with an enfield and shoot at me. Where do the zombies he aggros run? After me. Then, despite the fact that there is a tree between me and him, the zombies literally push me sideways out of my cover, and BAM, enfield to the head. Maybe one zombie headed toward him the whole time. So much for authenticity... -
What is the point to DayZ, if not to kill players?
`Orum replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Your question is moot. The "game" doesn't mimic real life. In a real apocalyptic scenario, we would have the option to rebuild society. In this game, we do not have that option. We have basic survival, which is trivial, so we're left with player killing for entertainment. That's really all there is to it. -

Some people have this crazy idea that "helping others" is somehow its own reward. NEWS FLASH: Helping someone, more often than not, will get you killed. Give a guy a gun, and what's he going to do? Shoot you in the head for being stupid enough to give him a gun. Not sure why so many people complain about the player killing. Honestly it's one of the better aspects of the game. -
Seriously, hackers are ruining this game.
`Orum replied to Oddzball's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Wait, wait, wait! You missed one. For the last few days I switched over to private hive servers, and have had far less issues. That's not to say they don't have hackers, but there are a few things that are different from the public hive servers. Primarily, they typically have side chat enabled and admins on the server, so when you have a problem with a hacker, you can actually contact the admins, and get feedback about bans. There's nothing like it on the public hives in regard to communication with the admins. Also, they just seem to generally have less hackers. I have yet to see any, but haven't played as much on the private hives, yet. Only "disadvantage" is, if the server goes down, you can't play your character elsewhere. However, I find it to be an advantage, as I can have multiple characters, which I prefer as sometimes I want to play with friends (and don't want to run far from where they are when they're not on), and other times I want to play lone wolf for a bit, which I can do easily just by playing on another private hive. Give it a try. Being able to communicate with server admins is invaluable. -
RE: Private Hives and 'The Rules' - (Update from Rocket inside)
`Orum replied to Anton17's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Rocket himself said he wants a authentic experience. Server hopping and alt-f4'ing are not authentic, so if anything, by playing on a private hive with only one server you're actually playing the game the way it was intended. So, what's more important? Helping Rocket "gather data", or playing the game it was intended to be played? In my mind, the latter. Valid data sets on what, exactly? Rocket could honestly spend his entire time just fixing glitches in the game from now until a standalone comes out, and he still wouldn't fix everything. Even if he needs player data, there are still the vast majority of players playing on hive servers. I've had way more engaging, interesting gameplay on non-hive servers than I have ever had on a hive server--and I've only played on non-hive servers for a fraction of the time I've played on hive servers. -
What to do when you've got all the gear besides killing people like an asshole
`Orum replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Actually, I agree with this. You should help people. That way, it will be all the more crushing to their psyche when you eventually murder them. -
When someone starts a thread with "Don't QQ about me QQing," you know it's going to be good. On a side note, I love the banditry in the game. Just today I was in a group of five when two other members in my group decided to kill the other two. The other two raged over side chat (thankfully some servers still have that) and gave our position to other bandits who promptly mowed us down. All of it was fun though. p.s. - If you really want to play a game with lots of player killing, go play L4D or L4D2 on expert.

UPDATED DAILY: I'm Issuing a Warning to Any Snipers

Anyone dumb enough to enter Cherno deserves to be sniped. Anyone dumb enough to snipe people in Cherno deserves to be killed. 'nuff said. -
RE: Private Hives and 'The Rules' - (Update from Rocket inside)
`Orum replied to Anton17's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Wow, private hives have less hackers? Sign me up. Honestly, the things I actually fear in this game (from most to least): 1: Hackers 2: Malicious admins (banning on any death) 3 through 9000: Various glitches 9001: Zombies 9002: Running out of food/water 9003: Legitimate player killing -
What was your most annoying/worst death in DayZ?
`Orum replied to Pureevuls's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Worst deaths? Every time I die to a hacker, which seems more and more frequent, and makes me want to play this game less and less. Just today, I was prone, in a ghillie suit, with dense trees on all sides, nowhere near civilization. You literally could not see me unless you were essentially right on top of me (and yes I do know about setting ATOC to "disabled"). While waiting for my friend to log in and join me (less than 5 minutes), pistol shots (or what sounded like them) to my head kill me before I can react. No approach sounds, was looking around me in 3rd person, and names were off on the server. Now, it seems, rather than teleporting you to the hackers location, they prefer to teleport themselves (or potentially other players on the server) to you, and kill you that way. I don't think I'll be playing much until they fix the insane amount of hacking going on in the game right now. -
Server-side Hotfix 0.7.2, Helicopter status and server info
`Orum replied to Vipeax's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
So, at best a downgrade to 1.7.2.3 to fix the massive graphical glitches in 1.7.2.4 is temporary? Great... -
Same problem here, but even worse than what you guys are getting (in some areas, anyway)

Want to host a DayZ Server? Read in here.
`Orum replied to Antipop (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Yeah, but I'm sure I don't meet it. Unfortunate as I just wanted to run my own server for a few critical things (losing all my gear because an admin wants to abuse their power sucks). :\ -

`Orum replied to Antipop (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
So, there's no way to run your own public server without permission from the hive admins? And you need massive throughput and hand RDP access to them? That sucks. :( It wouldn't be so bad except I've had numerous issues with the admins of the public servers that I'd like to run my own. -
Here's the idea: Utility item named "Yellow pages" Found in urban/civilian locations Works only in conjunction with a map Shows locations of various buildings with lots of loot on the map (fire station, hospital, grocery store, etc.) with a representative icon over the location Does not show all loot locations, as that doesn't make sense (and there are already many other online maps that show this, for better or worse) What do you guys think?
-
I know there are online maps for this. I thought it would be a cool item to have in game, particularly for newer players like me.
-
Totally agree. I play with a friend and love the coop experience this game provides. However, my friend isn't always around, and I'd also like to play "lone wolf" once in a while. Unfortunately, it's not possible right now--but hopefully that will change. There is, regrettably, a strong economic incentive for them not to support multiple characters. You need two copies of OA to to play two characters, and selling two copies of OA earns them more money than selling one copy. So, when it comes to player enjoyment or the almighty dollar, I think you already know which is going to win, especially when you consider that most players (myself included) only find out that you can't play multiple characters after buying one copy of the game.
