I don't shoot rifles much, mostly pistols. But the .22 rifle shooters at our range are all hanging out at the 50m range. To compensate, we don't really have many indoor ranges, and the winters are horrible :).

Why not? Probably because that would mean that 2/3 of the team would just sit there twiddling their thumbs for a month or two, when they could instead work on assets for the game. -
I don't think we need automatic triggerfingers. Besides, if you're shot in the head, you'll most likely simply collapse.

You can trade just fine now. They just need to make sure dropped items don't disappear, and we're set.

The entire forum, their mothers, and some people I overheard in line at the local supermarket started yelling and bitching about how the devs had cheated them out of their hard earned money. That might have been a slight exaggeration, but not by much. Would you want to hear that kind of thing every time you share anything about your job? :)

Not at the moment, but in the near future you'll have to carry plenty of water purifying tabs to do that.

I fervently hope so, and I believe the devs have said something along those lines. So this problem will probably rectify itself in time. I'll still bitch about it until it does, though :). -

Well, yeah. I've seen beginners shoot incredibly well the first time they touch a pistol. But after a few weeks, it evens out and the "problem" students catch up. To get to a place where you consistently shoot well takes about the same effort for everyone. "Talent" doesn't go very far in the real world :). Anyway, for gameplay purposes, I think we have to assume that every player character at least knows which end is the dangerous one, and should thus be able to hit a man sized target from 2-300m or so, lying down. -
I like the idea of a more in-depth weapon system, but then I'm a bit of a gun nut. My only complaint is that your "body" should probably be called the "stock". "frame" on handguns.

Just drop them in the woods, and drop the ammo somewhere far from the gun. That's what I do.

...except that's not how zombies work in DayZ. They're infected, living people, and they die just like everyone else. They might be able to keep going a little longer with a bullet in the chest, but once their brain gets no more oxygen, they're dead.- 43 replies

Oh yeah. And on experimental, it seems like all zombies are invisible. I hear them run around and try to attack me, but they usually don't hit. The noise gets annoying after a while, though.

Dayz - In real life (how would you act)

Contrary to most DayZ players, I'd look for other people first. Safety in numbers and all that. Then weapons, axes and such, and if we get lucky, guns for those who know how to handle them. Then I'd break into an airport, steal a plane and fly as far north as possible - if it's freezing, there will be no zombies! And yes, I have a pilots license, so that's not just wishful thinking :). -
Well, given the current ballistics system, prepare to shoot 2m groups at 200m with it :).

I believe most .22 rifle competitions take place at 50m ranges, maybe up to 100m, at least around where I live. So it makes sense that it's zeroed at 50m. And the current bullshit "cone of fire" system probably makes it impossible to hit anything beyond that anyway :).

Did you notice what happened when they DID provide updates on when they were planning on patching? The basement dwellers went apeshit, that's what! I would be very surprised if we get any more ETAs on patches from now on. If I was on the dev team, I sure as hell wouldn't post any.

This is the only reason to carry canteens. If you have the canteen ready, it takes 2-3 seconds to fill it, and then you're gone!

I've been whacked by crazy axe murderers at water pumps TWICE! Not surprising, if dickheads know you have to go to a certain spot, they'll always camp it.

Ahh, the heart of the matter! I think sway/shake/whatever weapon movement should be increased when standing, and possibly even kneeling, and DEFINITELY when winded. Anyone who knows how a rifle works can hit a dinner plate at 200m when rested and lying down, with pretty much any rifle ever made. In the game currently, you'd be lucky to hit it once with an entire magazine.
