Pending Changelog: Experimental Branch: 0.42.116002
rickenbacker replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
My only problem with ALL the melee weapons, is that they no longer hit where you aim. You now have to get right up in the face of the zombies (which, mind you, hit from 5m away and always make you bleed with every hit now) and keep swinging until you get lucky and hit them. Or die, whichever comes first. The old melee mechanic was clunky, and I kinda like the new direction. But there MUST be a way to aim even in melee. Having fights decided by random chance is no fun at all. -

So leave. You're not helping anyone here. -
You're right, there's no point in using a pistol if you have something better. Pistols and revolvers are mainly used by police forces and militaries because they're easy to carry, not because they're very good weapons. BUT, pretty much every pistol or revolver ever made can shoot a 3-5cm group at 25m, if the user does his part (and in the game, we all hold our aim perfectly except when winded).

Forum suggestion - changelogs and patch info.
rickenbacker replied to entspeak's topic in Suggestions
Who needs these discussions, then? I'm pretty sure no-one got anything useful out of the discussion in the latest changelog thread. -
Not really, no. We serve as a final stress test of the stable versions of the game, to see what happens when tens of thousands play it simultaneously. But the actual testing is done internally.

i really don't give two shits about the animation, but the melee weapons need to hit where we're aiming, not in a random spot somewhere 5cm from your body.

[Hacker on DE1-10] Noclip Death in Berezino
rickenbacker replied to xChriss001's topic in General Discussion
Well, OP, that is an exploit, not a cheat - a fine distinction. And you're doing the exact same thing, so I don't know what the hell you're whining about. You got a taste of your own medicine, live with it. -
People trying to 'win' this game have already lost. [im trolling you, yes you.]
rickenbacker replied to stilton's topic in General Discussion
You realize that the forum isn't the game, right? There's a separate game thing that you play, and he might have ten times the hours in-game that you do, even with no forum posts. -
Yes, but threads on the forums do fuck all. I doubt the dev team trawls the forums looking for bug reports.

When will Dayz optimization for laptops?
rickenbacker replied to koba09's topic in New Player Discussion
How do you "optimize for laptop"? It'll be optimized for a range of graphics cards and CPUs, but specifically for laptops... I don't think that's going to happen. -
"Private Servers" exist and it does no good to report them
rickenbacker replied to thequantum's topic in General Discussion
Nope. Thay pay an outrageous price to follow the goddamn rules, or they get their server taken away. See, that wasn't so hard. -

I agree that the current exp build is broken. I was killed today by a player who shot me from point-blank range. I never saw him, and didn't hear the shots. I started bleeding out of nowhere, got to a safe spot and sat down to bandage. He then shot me again and I died. I never saw him, and the only shot I heard was the very last one, that killed me. -
Players are more attached to loot then keeping character alive
rickenbacker replied to Pokerguy12's topic in General Discussion
Of course. Your gear IS your character, since there is nothing else to disinguish you from someone else. -
When it's stable.

This is all true, I know lots of people with lots of handguns, and I haven't met one yet who didn't have at least one magazine for each pistol. Most people have 2-4, and most keep an empty magazine in the pistol when storing it. Hell, a lot of pistols come with an extra magazine, which means both that you have two magazines, and that you have to put one of them into the pistol to be able to fit everything in the included carrying case.
-
Too complicated. I think we have to assume that our characters have at least some basic weapons training, since they know how to handle a gun, aim and shoot. I'm not the world's greatest or most experienced shooter, but even I don't have to think about what I do when reloading in real life, after practicing a bit it just falls into place automatically. Plus, for gameplay reasons, I don't think this would add anything to the game.

No, it's just cracked.

We need these. Now. Seriously. Now.
rickenbacker replied to Crazy_Spider's topic in General Discussion
Have them. But since there's no electricity, they won't do much. -
Also, look in corners and try pressing tab over known loot spots that seem empty. Sometimes stuff spawns below the floor, and can openers can be hard to see.

anti-hopping or why it's useless for the moment.
rickenbacker replied to unitedelite's topic in General Discussion
It's not to stop server hoppers, it's to stop ghost cheaters. Server hopping is a necessary evil at the moment. -
Every single experimental server ive gone too has been looted already.
rickenbacker replied to wmike20052's topic in General Discussion
I often close the doors of houses I loot, and I only loot houses with the loot I want, and I'm not a hacker. I just know where things spawn. If I want food I know that the beige house has one piece of food and one piece of footwear in the side porch (the food is on or near the table, the shoes near the door), and if I want guns I know where the guns spawns in the piano houses are. You were probably just following in the footsteps of an experienced player looking for guns. -
...and even if you HAD made it back in 20 minutes, it'd stll be pointless, as your body would be gone.

Dayz - In real life (how would you act)
rickenbacker replied to Meenos's topic in General Discussion
Lack of food and shelter does odd things to your head. I remember a march, where we went 50 km or so in a couple of days, with no food. On the second day, I just sat down by the roadside and could't get up. A friend pulled me to my feet and got me walking again, and I was fine after that. But if he hadn't done that, there's no way I would have gotten up on my own. The only thing going through my head was how hungry I was, and all we talked about for three days was food :). -
Dayz - In real life (how would you act)
rickenbacker replied to Meenos's topic in General Discussion
If you don't already know, are you really going to take the time to learn AFTER the zombie apocalypse? :) Besides, if you bring a couple of lighters you'll be able to light thousands of fires before you have to worry about running out. We all thought matches were the way to go at an army survival day I attended, but the instructor said "screw that, this one lighter is better than a pallet of matches in a real survival situation!" -
TV used to be more fun :). Still, that video is neither here nor there. It doesn't say anything about the power of a .22LR
