    Player count per server plans

I'm all for this. Right now player contact is too rare. I can spend like 3 hours and not come across another player. Either map needs to be smaller, or more players need to be on the map.

    Map notes

So I make notes on my map, places that have supplies and all. Then I change servers and open map again and the notes are gone. And it's like this all the time... why? Also on one server it seemed like I could see where my character was on the map, but on other servers I couldn't. Also, why? Sory I'm new to arma2..
  3. Ah, so this thread is the reason why the server is overloaded and I can't download the beta patch...
  4. I shoot this guy with a revolver in the back, full clip, that's six shots. He's still alive. We're in a building and he runs into the next room and starts bandaging. So I come closer and shoot him 3 more times in the back, and he's still alive! I reload and this time I aim for his head and empty my full clip while he's turning around. And so he takes all the shots, gets up, starts running, then falls down dead... wtf? is this normal?
  5. When you have a weapon like the CZ550, is there anyway to zoom in without using the scope? Like you know if you have a pistol and you hold right click it zooms in. Anyway to do this when you have a CZ500 in your hands?

    Amazon version of the arma2OA

Is what you are getting saying exactly this: "Waiting for server response" ? If yes, then that's just server load, you need to simply wait or try during a different try when less people are playing.
  7. guitarxe

    That's it. I'm going bandit.

Yeah, that's what I said. If you threaten my survival, I'll shoot you.
  8. Wasn't there JUST an announcement from Rocket that there will never be any kind of private servers? At least not for a very long time? I thought he made it quite clear. Fair access to the game for everyone. There isn't enough room for everyone, and you want to create some kind of private server instead? This also seems to go completely against the whole persistence thing. On your private server that only hand-picked individuals can get access too, who knows what's going on there? People can exploit or game the system to their heart's content without any risk. Then they got to any other public server, and because of the persistence, they have evertyhing from the private server. Just imagine, if someone can host a private server that only specific players can get into, and this being done through their GUID... someone can host a private server, and charge people to have access to it through donations. They give him money and their GUID and he gives them access to the server. Then they log in, and there's spawned end-game loot everywhere. They load up, then they go to a public server. @OP - I do not mean that you ever intend to do anything like that, but your idea makes this possible for those that WILL do this. So no, this just cannot happen. Once this mod goes into proper production servers need to be kept internal, to prevent any kind of hacking and exploiting. Only reason why servers are being given to the community now, I think, is a means to cope with the demand.

    Melee Weapon Petition

I'm all for melee weapons, but only for player killing. I don't think you wanna try swiping at zombies with any kind of melee weapon because they can kill you in one hit. But for player killing it's almost essential to have. Cause you know 95% of the time any survivor you find is trouble. They'll either kill you, or they'll attract zombies and kill you. Or they'll attract bandits who will kill you. So 95% of the time you just wanna get rid of them. You can ignore them, but that doesn't always work, so you have to kill them. But how do you kill them when you're in the middle of town without attracting zombies? That's where a quiet melee kill comes in. Stab them in the back. I know there's a hunting knife in the game. Make it possible to stab people with it and it's all good. And you can't possibly use it to defend yourself against zombies, either.
  10. Dude, I'm sorry but who are these rules supposed to be for? Clueless noobs? "Hey are you friendly?" "Yes. Where are you?" "I'm Here" ... gets shot in the face. These are really stupid rules to play by, unless you wanna die as fast as possible.
  11. I completely condone this change. Bandit skins just don't seem to matter at all. I'm not against the system, I'm against the implementation of it. It needs to be re-worked so it works better. Right now I know that any survivor will shoot me if I have better loot than them, or if they happen to be in dire need of supplies and I'm not willing to share. Because there's nothing to stop them from not doing it. They go bandit and so what? It doesn't change anything. Right now I just shoot anyone I see as a threat, bandit or not.

IF this was an actual game...

Stand-alone game, one time purchase only. Willing to pay for regular content expansions. No microtransactions please. Kickstarter big thumbs up. Studio developed with community involvement. Studio servers ONLY.

    Those looking for heavy immersion

I don't understand why anyone would use this. You have to move your head in real life... so it's like you move your head to look to the side, but you still have to keep your eyes on the screen, which is really painful. Why would you do that? Constantly waving your head around, it gets very stressful on your neck. Now if there was something like this to track your eye movement instead (I know this exists, just don't know how expensive...) then this would be so much better instead.

    friendly server

I don't get it. The very reason to play this mod is because of this constant danger, because you can lose everything. Otherwise what's the point? This mod doesn't even have all that much content. If there was no pvp you could go to the airfield in a day, gear up with the best the game has to offer and then you'd quit, cause there would be nothing else to do.
  15. Do you think that setting your brightness and gamma to full during night time is also an exploit? Since when has tweaking in-game options (even if they are accessed through a config file) become an exploit?
  16. This is much less about performance increase and more about being able to see better through close-range bush and trees.

    I hate this ...

I'm just playing. Finally got to a settlement. I creep up to it, hop the fence..."Session Lost". So I got disconnected? I try to join another server, any server... every time "waiting for server response". Why? What can I do about this?
  18. guitarxe

    Daytime servers are always overloaded.

To pitch in my opinion, I absolutely love the night time in this game. What I don't like, though, is that by the time I come home from work, and am ready to play for a few hours, it's already dark. So if this is left the way it is, that means I will ALWAYS be playing in the dark. And I'm sure that's the same way for many other players, too. I don't think Rocket intended the game to ALWAYS be night time, but for players like me it will be like that.

    Darwin List: Banned Users

So can we please get this out into the open somewhere where ever new player can see this? Like ont he front page of the website as a warning? Because people come in here knowing this is Alpha version, so there will be bugs and glitches. And they loot a weapon which looks like a bug, but instead it's a hacked weapon and they get banned... for doing nothing wrong... Not a good start for a mod...

Your first time being a bandit.

I became a bandit by mistake. On the website where it says like "step 1: this" "step 2: that" "step 3: survive"... well in step 2 it says Kill Zombies and Bandits, and bandit there is a guy in a black cap. So first day I'm playing I'm sneaking up to some barn and I look behind me and there's a bandit sneaking up behind me. I thought he was going to backstab me so as soon as I saw him I emptied my clip in his face. Turns out it was just a survivor and now I'm a bandit =/

    Darwin List: Banned Users

This thread is making me very nervous. I just stumbled onto it out of pure curiosity. I've only been playing 2 days and never played Arma2 before. What if I had killed someone and they had a cheated weapon them and I picked it up? How am I supposed to know this is a cheated weapon? I've only played 2 days and this is Alpha, so things like no icons or whatever I'd just not even think of since this is Alpha and game can be buggy... Now I'm afraid to play, because I might accidentally get something from hacker and be banned too... Maybe I was already banned, because every time I try to connect to a server it says "waiting for server response" and like taht for like 15 minutes... never loads. Is CZ550 a hacked weapon? I remember I picked that up...
  23. If didn't read this post I never even had known the number of zombies was a bug. First time I played was yesterday. I found a CZ 550 in a town, decided to shoot a zombie that was in my path with it, and then I had to run away and hole up in some hotel lobby because I was being mobbed by literally like 50 zombies. It was awesome and I wouldn't have it any other way.
  24. So on the main website it says "Step 2: Kill zombies and bandits", and the bandit has a cap. So I went into the game and see a guy in a cap and so I think it's a bandit so I kill him dead. Turns out he was just another survivor like me... So now I'm confused. What's a bandit supposed to look like?

    DayZ Stories

The very first time I played I had no idea about any controls in Arma2 or anything. I just bought, installed the game and mod, and logged into a server. This was at around 9pm and so everything was pitch black. At first I thought this was some kind of glitch, that I didn't install the mod files correctly or something, but after a few restarts and poking around with brightness and gamma settings I finally resigned that this was actually intended. The posts on RPS that brought me to the game never mentioned that nights would be LITERRALY pitch-black. All I could see were the treetops silhouetted against the sky. I couldn't even see my gun! Having waited the whole day to download the game and play it, I resolved myself to at least give it a shot before going to bed, and so I shot my pistol a few times, was surprised to see a patch of grass underneath me illuminated by the muzzle flash, and then just started to blindly run forward, without any direction or any plan or thought. I thought that, maybe, I'll see some lights somewhere and try to move that way. After blindly stumbling around like this for a few minutes I barely made out what looked like a telephone pole against the sky, and decided that I must be near a road, and started to just walk from pole to pole, hoping that this would eventually bring me to some kind of town, but this being already very late and knowing that the map is huge I decided that I'm fed up not being able to see anything and that I'd just fool around a bit and go to bed. Having never played the game and never looked at the controls, as I've said, I started fumbling around with the keyboard and finally opened the inventory by pressing 'G'. Then while I was trying to figure out a way to light the flare, I apparently dropped it on the ground instead, because when I closed the backpack, moved around for a bit more, and reopened it, the flares were no longer there. This was also the time I figured out how to chat ('/' key), and found out from other players that to cycle between weapons (to equip my flare), I actually had to press 'f'. Well, no point in doing that now, since I already lost my flares on the ground somewhere, but let me back up a few minutes, because the reason why I was frentically looking for flares was because I started to hear zombies around me. See, just before I started fooling around on the keyboard looking for the inventory key, I fired off about 5 shots into the night. Partly because I was frustrated with the dark, partly because gunshots should apparently attract zombies, and I wanted some action before I logged off. But when I heard them, something just changed... I was no longer sitting at my desk with a dirty plate on one side. I was actually there, in this pitch black darkness, huddling by what I could only hope was a telephone pole, with no chance in hell of anyone coming to my rescue. Those runts and growls, in the darkness just felt so real that I felt true terror and suddenly I no longer wanted to goad the zombies and experiences some action. Suddenly I no longer felt like I'll just die and respawn. I didn't want to die, oh no, not like this. This was scary, this was nothing like just blowing yourself up with a grenade or something in any other games. Being eaten alive, in this darkness, this was truly terrifying. This was when I started frentically fumbling around for the inventory key, to light a flare so I could see. This is when I scrambled into the controls options to figure out what key is to chat. I started pleading in chat for help, how do I use these flares? I must have dropped them by mistake, I'll never find them now, but the zombies were coming closer and closer. I heard a helicopter fly over somewhere, and someone said "zombie" on voice chat. My pleading for rescue became even more desperate on the chat. I called for the guys in the helicopter to come back. If they could see the zombies they could probably see me and help me, but the noise of the rotors never returned. Instead, people in chat just became interested in the helicopter themselves. "Helicopter?" they would say. "Where?" and "where are you?" were repeated by at least four people. I tried to describe my surrounding. "I'm by what looks like a telephone pole", I said. Realizing how dumb and useless I sounded, I added "and there's more of them, running in a line. It must be a road of some kind". After having typed that, I immediately realized how futile my situation really was. Even if somebody was willing to help me, how could they possibly find me? How many roads were there with telephone poles? All the while, the zombie sounds were getting closer. I was lying in the grass at this point, hoping the zombies would not see me, but I couldn't stand it anymore and I fired off a few more shots. At least the flash would show a little bit infront of me, I thought. There was nothing, but the sounds now began to move increasingly closer to me. My gaming instincts were telling me that by the sounds, the zombies must be right on top of me. I reloaded and fired again. There were two pale, contorted faces no more than 3 meters in front of me. Without thinking I emptied my full clip in their direction and then lay frozen, not moving, listening for more sounds. It was dead quiet, but the tension was tearing me apart. I didn't want to play like this... I wanted to see, just to see, nothing more. The earning for such a simply comfort as light was unbearable. I was pleading again for help in the chat. I wanted to die and respawn with flares, now that I knew how to use them, but I couldn't stand to be killed by zombies. "What if I make a new player profile, would that make me start over?" I asked in chat. "easier to respawn lol" someone replied. I remembered I saw that in the menu when I was looking at the controls. I pressed ESC and there it was. "Respawn". An escape. A way out. An end. I didn't hesitate for more than 10 seconds. I hit respawn, and my character died. While I was in the lobby afterwards, I realized what I had just done. I had, in character, commited suicide. The terror was too much for me to bear. When I was presented a quick and easy way out of that situation, I took it. It made me start to wonder what I would have done, if I had really been in such a situation. All this, from about 15 minutes of playing.
