Once I got my first tent my world changed from one of scraping by to survive to one of thriving, and that ruined the game. I no longer feared death or loosing my gear. In fact, I shoved all my gear into the tent and went out with just a pistol, hatchet, knife, matches, and canteen. I headed for the nearest hospital and instead of getting 2 morphines, I grabbed every blood bag, morphine, bandage I could (and a few epi-pens). After dropping all that in my tent, I hit up all the nearby supermarkets, getting a good stock of ammo, matches, handguns, beens and soda, and another tent. Now there is nothing else to do but raid NWAF. It doesn't matter if I die because all my vital gear is in my tents and the loot I can get from there is well worth the risk (oh yeah, there is no risk anymore because all my shit is in my tent). And this is playing on a single server. People server hopping to stockpile high end gear from NWAF so they can dump it back in their home server tents completely break the system. Tents remove any consequence of death. At first I was so happy when I got my tent (I can finally thrive!) but the tension I felt up until then was completely gone. I honestly think the single most beneficial thing rocket could to better the game would be to remove tents. Also barbed wire. Fuck that shit. -

This game has so many parallels to EVE. The early EVE had absolute shit interface, shit tutorials, and was a brutal pvp world to live in. When CCP started improving the interface and tutorials there was the same uproar from the people who 'learned the hard way' that CCP was making the game too newb friendly. The results of those changes was more people actually playing the game which meant more opportunity for pvp. So yeah, I'm in complete agreement with OP. Defending bugs as part of the difficulty system is retarded. Maybe rocket should introduce more bugs if you like them so much? -

East of Pustoshka. 2 supermarkets nearby, lake for water, plenty of game in the fields, and the NWAF are not that far away with a decently covered approach. -
I've only ever been killed by players in cherno and electro. All other kills have been zombie inflicted, but now that I have a knife, matches, and hatchet it is super easy to heal up. Basically I play the game paranoid as fuck. I avoid the big towns and scan the small ones for signs of life before going in. When I do go in, I run into the target building, hatchet any zed I aggroed, get my shit and get out.

Going north has it's pros and cons. There isn't the concentration of loot you find in cherno and electro, but that also means there are fewer bandits. You can find good gear, it just take a little longer. However, if you are dying to bandits on the coast every 10 minutes then it can be worth the wait.

I"m not sure what OP expected. Everyone knows this game has a learning curve to it. Just die, learn, and move on. Like a whole bunch of others, I got the game on the steam sale. I knew it was going to be hard and that I would die a lot, that should not be unexpected or something to bitch and moan about. My experience: 1st spawn: It's night, can't see shit, wonder why "L" isn't turning on my flashlight and blame the buggy game. Turn gama and all that shit up, see some zed and run away, which catches their attention and they kill me. Decide maybe I should wait till daylight to learn the game. 2nd spawn: right in cherno. Try sneaking around but apparantly crouch running isn't enough. I still attract the zed and get mauled to death. 3rd spawn, BFE, run to town, now I'm extremely cautious about the zed and am learning not to get their attention. Start to get gear that I don't know wtf to do with, except I think the crowbar is awesome. Still not cautious enough about the zed, I'm seriously wounded by the time a bandit puts me down. 4th spawn. Go to town, getting even better at avoiding zed, get an enfield and good supplies. I see a guy climbing down a ladder and shot him. He dies and I'm happy to get my first kill. I go to inspect the body and someone headshots me. Next half dozen spawns are more of the same. Finding my way through town, getting better and not tipping off the zed, mostly getting killed by other players. This is all in the first 24 hours of playing. My average lifespan was probably 10-20 minutes. But you know what? That is what I expected. That is what being a newb to a game entails, and how one learns to not be a newb. I still play solo, but I've been alive for days now and I love the tension the game creates. Laying prone while a zed practically trips over my legs, hearing that ATV approach when I'm in the supermarket and deciding whether i'm in the mood to bounce or pounce, hearing gunshots in the distance and remembering that there are other lost souls out there fighting for their lives. If the shit was easy, none of that would matter. But it isn't easy, Dayz makes you work for it and you can lose it all in a heartbeat if you let your guard down for just a second. tl;dr Dayz isn't going to hand things to you on a plate. You have to constantly keep your guard up or you will get caught slippin and that is what makes the game great.

I was a newb hanging around the cherno and electra trying to learn how to survive. I was constantly being sniped or eaten by zombies at the time, but I figured this was what it took to learn the game. Then on one spawn, I had gotten myself a dinner bell, which was hot shit for me at that point. Then the moment arrives. I turn a corner and see someone half way down a ladder of a big chimeny. After being shot so many times, it was simply instinctual that now it was my turn to kill. I proned down, brough the iron sights up, and brought my aim up to his head. I squeezed off one round and watched the player pause, then drop off the ladder and die. I'm not sure if my shot killed him or if I knocked him off the ladder which killed him, but he died none the less. Then someone sniped me, but I had my first taste of blood. Now if I have a clear shot, there is no doubt or hesitation to take that shot.

No, it is not the FFA deathmatch that you think it may be. Teaming up creates a situation where the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts, but here in lies the dilemma... Attempting to team up with strangers creates an game of chicken so to speak. You both know that killing the other has benefits, (basically that you get whatever they have in their pack,) but if you stick together as a team you can probably get more than what simply killing the other guy will achieve. The problem is, the other guy is faced with the same dilemma. And what happens when you start getting that loot that is only available when you team up. The grand loot is there to split 50/50, or for you to take 100% of if you blow the other guy away, or for him to take 100% of if he blows you away. It is the tension that these situation create that is what "this game is all about." If it really was just a FFA deathmatch in a zombie arena, you can bet your bottom dollar that the mod would have been drowned out along with all the other FFA deathmatch games out there. Instead, Rocket put the human element front and center as the core gameplay element and now every gamer far and wide has heard of it or is playing it. -
