Will DayZ be overshadowed by next-gen consoles at E3?
Maxgor replied to Stoddy15's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well of course, DayZ is a much smaller game in terms of popularity and hype. It's not trying to compete with that market anyways, so I don't think it matters if it was overshadowed. The people that want DayZ will be looking for it. -
Wildlife that will attack would be pretty awesome. Maybe you are more likely to be attacked by wolves at night if you don't have a fire, wild dogs roam around, bears once in awhile would be awesome. Would really add to the survival element of the game.

Seeing that they are still heavily working on the game, I don't see his apparent trip being something that delays it all that much. Sure it might slow it down a tad, but it isn't like they've stopped working with him gone. I really don't fault him for wanting to do this major adventure while he can and planned a long while to do. Really doesn't seem to be the kind of person that lets matters of business drive his decisions. Losing some people that are ridiculously impatient wouldn't be much of a loss to him.

That's just how DayZ is. I see it more that it's giving people the option. Do you use it in defense or offense? What kind of player are you? That kind of thing. This at least gives people a fighting chance when it comes to zombies and could be quite the learning experience. I'm sure many remember when they first shot a gun in a town or city and had the horde come after them lol

KOS is gonna happen no matter what. I personally don't see this affecting that much at all really and ends up giving spawned players a slightly better chance at surviving, especially if they aren't well versed in the gameplay, even more so if they are adding in these tougher zombies.

What's the current state of hacking?
Maxgor replied to Luke42_02's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Private is the way to go for the mod. It probably won't change too much anytime soon for high-pop public servers. -
DayZ Developer Blog 15th April Highest one ever

The problems Gummy has, really just stems from his inability to understand the release model. Either that or immense trolling which is extremely likely from his continuing of the kickstarter idea, which he has been told wasn't true more than once. -

I see the radio thing as more of an optional immersion device. Nifty idea for those that want to be engrossed in the survival, using it as listening device or something between groups to set up attacks, I think it is a rather interesting idea. Probably nothing I'd use, but I could see people really enjoying it. -
Its come to that time, where the newest games are starting to struggle abit for me, games like Crysis don't run as well as they should, even on medium to low settings, alot of higher quality games are kinda rough in some areas, and I have the money to upgrade which is the most important factor lol My budget is around just a grand or so, for the tower components only. I want a new monitor also which I'll probably just get locally at Best Buy or Comp USA so I can see it up close to tell what I'd like, which has the budget around 1200 bucks, but around 1000 is what I'm looking purely for just what goes into the tower. I can build my own computer, I've done it before with my limited knowledge, its actually really easy building a PC more than some think it is as long as you follow instructions. So I pretty much just need recommendations for the basic hardware, the CPU, MOBO, RAM, and Graphics Card. I can grab myself an HDD and Case on my own once the hardware is chosen. Radeon has been good for me, so I'd like to stick with that line for myself. Any help is appreciated, I have at least a month to sort it all out before I can actually buy the system. Once I get everything, I'll price it out on Newegg or do it over at CompUSA since I have one in town. Would be nice to just go and get a shopping cart full of all my gear lol *EDIT* Already browsing cases and I'm really digging this Raidmax case. Good design, 500w Power Supply, and I love that easy open side panel that has the Motherboard on it so you can work it directly much more easily. Very handy for installation. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811156098

I'm fine with that then. I'll keep that in mind when I go to ordering to make sure to get a little better CPU cooler.
-
Well a CPU needs a fan, but you need a high powered one or liquid cooled one for if you want to go about overclocking a CPU which can really heat it up.
-
If you two don't settle down back there, I'm turning this thread around and no one is going to Mcdonalds! lol I appreciate the help, but lets not get fussy now. I am going to get a new HDD, I need one for the space as my 500gb isn't cutting it anymore. There's not gonna be a big fancy CPU cooler, I don't OC, so its just not necessary and I could put that money back into say better RAM or better video card. Originally I said Radeon is what I'm looking at video card wise, but I had forgotten that my current one wasn't that, so that isn't a sticking aspect and I think I'd go with the GTX Stig brought up which seemed good. I think his setup overall with a 1tb HDD, no CPU Cooler, a case of my choice, and then the monitor would be my ideal setup for my next system. By the time I get to ordering, it might be better to even update the selection a tad if some of the prices go down as its been said here.

Would be nice to do, but i don't have the money at all to buy ahead of time lol
-
My current PC isn't awful, but its not very good anymore for handling alot of newer games, especially beyond low and rarely medium unless its not a very intensive game like some of the console ports tend to be. Using a Geforce GTX 560 Ti that I got back when Battlefield 3 released, which did give me an improvement, but I'm at the point where I need to look at upgrading everything else. Running an Intel Core 2 Duo 3ghz. And I won't be buying my computer for at least a month, so prices of things might drop by the end of April towards May which would be nice. AussieStig's setup seems to be the most popular right now, so that is what I'll be looking at I think.
-
I'd probably drop the CPU cooler as I don't do overclocking. Then when I add the case and HDD, that'll bring it to just over 1000 for the tower which is what I'm liking.
-
I'm liking that selection there other than the SSD. I know its supposed to be great for gaming and their load times, but 128gb? I was looking to get at least a 1tb HDD lol I'll take a look at the case to see if I like it, but that setup overall seems pretty sound at the moment. Thanks for the help everyone, I'll keep taking a look at what everyone pitches in with as I'm currently seeing a pattern of items here such as the i5 3870, the Radeon HD 7970, etc...Helps to narrow things down for myself.

That looks like a build I've seen around before in another video I watched and I like it. The only thing I'm unsure about is the liquid cooling for the CPU. I've never worked with equipment like that before and the idea of cooling stuff like that seemed a step above my knowledge grade in working with it. I'd probably just fine with the normal cooling system in the computer, but I like everything else for the most part, other than grabbing a different case for aesthetic reasons like the one I'd brought up, though is 500W good with this setup? I assumed if having that big liquid cooling setup, you'd want that beefier 650w to make sure it got all the power it needs.

Why is DayZMod still marked as "Alpha"?
Maxgor replied to tsandrey's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's abit of both Alpha and Beta, but simply just a WIP. I think keeping it Alpha helps to keep peoples expectations low. You call it a Beta and people would get mad that it doesn't work better than it does. -
DayZ Alpha won't launch until launched !
Maxgor replied to willey.erd@oundleschool.org.uk's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Summer sounds good to me. However long it takes to be made. No rush. With what they are doing with the game, that really only puts it at like a year of development, which isn't very long for a game, even an alpha. -
Does anyone actually cares about boiling water?
Maxgor replied to Leto (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I always carried soda anyways. Never saw a point to the canteens lol They need to make it so soda does less hydrating compared to water. Maybe a soda only does half as much, making you either carry more or start using canteens. -
2-3 months on a map is a bad thing? lol You might want to wait to criticize a games future features once a game is released. They are still finishing Chernarus which is significantly bigger and more dense than before. Once they finish Chernarus, I'm sure they'll move to work on a new map. I do agree abit with the animations, but this all still WIP stuff, in the video they talk about the new skeletons that will be put in which leads to better animation.
-
Rushing a game because there are impatient people is a terrible idea. DayZ had insane amounts of hype that was impossible to keep up. I'd rather they get the game right than just hurry the game out and have it suffer through problems.
-
I don't see it as a big deal really. Hotkeys make sense from a gameplay point of view as they are a way to access what you have at the ready. could think of them as being in side pockets or on your person directly. What should be done, is that based on the storage you have, that will decide how many hotbar slots you have. A small bag, you just have one or two. A maxed bag will have more, I think that would be cool. As long as they all have the animation to them for switching, such as with eating food, you have to kneel and wait (While also having the ability to abort eating and such), though stuff like switching guns shouldn't involve stationary animations anymore. You should still have to bring it up to the ready and put your other weapon away, but its not an insta-switch.

Love the vaulting and I think its awesome that the zombies will be numbering in the thousands and on the servers at all times. Really great to see them work on the pathfinding and zombie behavior too.
-
Ah yeah, vaulting! Game is looking snazzy. Very smooth and the talk of thousands of zombies being allowed onto the server all at once is pretty awesome.
