Item damage in Dayz SA looks dumb...
Maxgor replied to scaramoosh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No, currently the system is a pretty cool survival element that will have an interesting gameplay impact when ready, it just has it's values wrong, something admitted to by the developer, but good thing this is an unreleased alpha, or it might be a problem. We are only broken records here, because some people are unable to understand what state the game is in and seem to expect brand new features to work perfectly right away. These devblogs aren't to show the finished product, they are too show the unfinished product and to keep people up to date on what they are working on and what they are adding into the game currently. Sorry if most people around here like to use some common sense. It's complaining about an unfinished feature being unfinished. It's pointless. -
Item damage in Dayz SA looks dumb...
Maxgor replied to scaramoosh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's like people willingly force themselves to not understand the concept of the Alpha and actually are completely ignoring what is said in the video. Just please stop this. Use your head. It'll be better for everyone. -
Why you need DayZ standalone argue points.

I wouldn't quite use this one yet since Rocket hasn't actually fixed the zombies yet lol -

Now that's a quote lol Rocket: "The E3 build was fucked, this is less fucked". -
Man, we ever going to see the zombies at a normal speed? lol I'm waiting for that day that shows up in these videos. Visually its all looking pretty great right now, good animations, players look good, that's all nice. Looking forward to when the standalone is at a point of stability for some alpha play.

Do you remember the first time you played Dayz?
Maxgor replied to Agent36's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I spent ALOT of time humping the ground till I eventually figured out how you lose most zombies and that it's usually not worth playing it safe unless you are decked out in gear lol I did some KOS stuff in fear of being killed, but eventually i got to the point of forcing myself not to in hopes of some interaction, though I mostly tried to play it safe, avoiding people if at all possible. -
Ooops, looking you guys broke quoting people. That'll have to get fixed lol

Thought it was a hack when I saw the weird splash page that suddenly showed up on the forums that day. Good to have the place back, I realized how often I actually popped into here when I kept coming back to the BIS website and was bummed it wasn't back lol
-
The zombies really don't look any worse than they did at E3, but hopefully we get something new soon to show some real improvement in their tracking and how they are able to hit people. Also get them slower! Way too dang fast! lol

While I don't agree with the antibiotic types, I think it's absolutely fine to have to find canisters for a gas cooker and purification tablets. Thats absolutely fitting for the idea of DayZ. You shouldn't have a gas cooker with infinite fuel and you should have to purify your water to drink it if you are getting it from a non-sanitary source. Having to get supplies and trying to survive while doing so IS the gameplay.

E3 Expo - June 2013 - Interviews and Gameplay
Maxgor replied to SmashT's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
MMO does not equal guaranteed success. In fact, all MMO's that have tried to be the next WoW either fail or don't get anywhere near that number. WoW is a completely different game from DayZ, not just in genre, but in appeal. WoW doing so well, even on PC, shows how much of an appeal it has to the masses. DayZ is specifically designed to not appeal to the masses. ARMA2 is liked by a very niche audience, DayZ just as much if not more. -

WoW is ridiculously mainstream. It has a very open appeal from people wanting a casual MMO experience to those wanting the hardcore endgame grind. It is also an easy to play RPG MMO. That number on the front page, which I'm pretty sure isn't exact, it's been reset back once before from an error, is not like with WoW and their numbers. There isn't 2 million people playing DayZ right now. We don't even need to bring Blizzard into this. It won't hit Call of Duty or Battlefield numbers which are far lower. ARMA2 and DayZ don't appeal to the big crowds. It's challenging, unforgiving, and not an easy game in any way. DayZ will do well within it's market for what it is I think, but it's pure fantasy to think DayZ will hit a point of having millions and millions of people playing it. -

This game was never going to be Blizzard/WoW huge, that is so ridiculous. This game doesn't appeal to mainstream/casual gamers in any way, it is in fact appealing to a very small audience of very hardcore gamers. Sure, they could hire a 50 to 100 more people to speed up the development time, but that doesn't guarantee a better game and just ends up costing the developers alot more and requires them to sell more copies to make back what is spent. That would in turn cause them to not be cheaper with the release as they are looking to be. It's a small team, with a not very long development time, and it just needs more work. This isn't just being anti-criticism or white knighting, this is reality. -

And there we go. That makes me quite happy to hear. That stuff should get put into the OP so people can see it straight up while watching the video. -

It was nice seeing some game footage. I really liked how simple the UI was, just convenient drag and drop, easy pick up, very nice. Zombie animations are better, but I hope things will be looked at for how the zombies actually attack and to make them not so stupidly fast lol Ease of movement seems alot better to with getting around. All the hours of slow hopping fences, to just get over them fast and realistically is great. I would agree that player speed seemed abit high in running, but again...Alpha, everything is subject to change lol Nice to see how things are progressing. -
Will DayZ be overshadowed by next-gen consoles at E3?
Maxgor replied to Stoddy15's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well of course, DayZ is a much smaller game in terms of popularity and hype. It's not trying to compete with that market anyways, so I don't think it matters if it was overshadowed. The people that want DayZ will be looking for it. -
Wildlife that will attack would be pretty awesome. Maybe you are more likely to be attacked by wolves at night if you don't have a fire, wild dogs roam around, bears once in awhile would be awesome. Would really add to the survival element of the game.

Seeing that they are still heavily working on the game, I don't see his apparent trip being something that delays it all that much. Sure it might slow it down a tad, but it isn't like they've stopped working with him gone. I really don't fault him for wanting to do this major adventure while he can and planned a long while to do. Really doesn't seem to be the kind of person that lets matters of business drive his decisions. Losing some people that are ridiculously impatient wouldn't be much of a loss to him.
-
That's just how DayZ is. I see it more that it's giving people the option. Do you use it in defense or offense? What kind of player are you? That kind of thing. This at least gives people a fighting chance when it comes to zombies and could be quite the learning experience. I'm sure many remember when they first shot a gun in a town or city and had the horde come after them lol
-
KOS is gonna happen no matter what. I personally don't see this affecting that much at all really and ends up giving spawned players a slightly better chance at surviving, especially if they aren't well versed in the gameplay, even more so if they are adding in these tougher zombies.

What's the current state of hacking?
Maxgor replied to Luke42_02's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Private is the way to go for the mod. It probably won't change too much anytime soon for high-pop public servers. -
DayZ Developer Blog 15th April Highest one ever
Maxgor replied to mattlightfoot's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
The problems Gummy has, really just stems from his inability to understand the release model. Either that or immense trolling which is extremely likely from his continuing of the kickstarter idea, which he has been told wasn't true more than once. -

I see the radio thing as more of an optional immersion device. Nifty idea for those that want to be engrossed in the survival, using it as listening device or something between groups to set up attacks, I think it is a rather interesting idea. Probably nothing I'd use, but I could see people really enjoying it. -
Why is DayZMod still marked as "Alpha"?
Maxgor replied to tsandrey's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's abit of both Alpha and Beta, but simply just a WIP. I think keeping it Alpha helps to keep peoples expectations low. You call it a Beta and people would get mad that it doesn't work better than it does. -
DayZ Alpha won't launch until launched !
Maxgor replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Summer sounds good to me. However long it takes to be made. No rush. With what they are doing with the game, that really only puts it at like a year of development, which isn't very long for a game, even an alpha.
