The Bandit Dilemma: An Inner Look at the Economics and Psychology of Banditry and the Inevitable Collapse of Day Z
Maxgor replied to Chiefmon's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I skimmed through the OP thread and while I would agree with some aspects, it's not going to be the end of DayZ. I've seen a number of players around here that try and purposefully do things the harder way. Sure, just being a murdering dick is easier, but once people work themselves into groups, it'll create something better right there. People will learn that if they want to solo, bandit might be easier, though if they want to group, getting a group of bandits together will be harder to do if they aren't all friends. I mean, who is going to trust a bandit? A leaning towards grouped survivors could be something we end up seeing and putting people into larger groups, can detour solo bandits from just being all kill crazy and steering away from them. -
Opinions on releasing DayZ on console?
Maxgor replied to Statik (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think it's fine if they want it on console, but clearly it will be the dominant game on PC as the console version will have to be chopped up to even be made possible. Not that the PC version couldn't use alittle streamlining, but the console version and the PC version are gonna be very different games. You can look at Battlefield 3 as an example, despite what was the main focus of the game, the console version is the inferior version of the game, running with much less people and smaller maps. There wouldn't be 50 people on a server and a full sized Chernarus I think. -
So why is the game fun in its current form?
Maxgor replied to jacket13's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hackers? In DayZ? I think your lying... As for being any fun, I usually steer clear of the really populated servers, so I rarely come across them. Nothing can be done about them till standalone. -
Even for standalone, it just not an idea that makes much sense. The point of DayZ is not just to kill people, to basically hack in a bunch of weapons and set everyone off. It's mildly entertaining, but with how the game is designed, you'd have to basically make a completely separate multiplayer deathmatch mode, and then what is that point? There are plenty of games for that already that do it better. The whole point of the game is survival, esports don't play into that and serve little purpose. Now if two clans managed to get onto a server, maybe it's one clan storming a server, and the objective was to say take over the city that was occupied by one clan, having this form more naturally, that would be a killer thing to watch, but it's not really something for esports.

I've had hackers try to give me gear, it led to my death saying no to it lol
-
I'd wait. Even if you might enjoy it, the mod just has alot of problems that probably wouldn't be worth it for new players anymore. Wait for the standalone, which will hopefully be abit more stable all around than the mod and start from there, unless you can just get ARMA2 for like 10 bucks or less and then it probably doesn't matter lol
-
Is there an easy way to find good private hives? I wouldn't mind trying out of those, being that I'm trying to play as more of a good guy and I might come across less asshattery on them.
-
I've only seen the M4A1 Holo once myself. I actually had to double check which one it was lol There are still a few guns I haven't come across yet.
-
That wouldn't work for anything, but an arcade game. Also those games are designed to be money sinks, they are purposefully trying to get as much money as they can out of you. You'd really want to pay for every life? You apparently don't like money lol

What people need to understand is
Maxgor replied to Anarchyihdi's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There are a surprising amount of people who apparently weren't paying attention to the articles or videos discussing the game that got them interested in DayZ. Alphas are functional messes, usually to test out new features, work out serious problems, and are not meant to be extremely playable. Betas are where the more playable game part comes in and begins to work out kinks in the already set in stone mechanics, tweaking out the bugs and glitches. We aren't even talking about a full realized game here, we are talking about alot of mechanics and ideas that are hacked into the base game to make them work, which would create alot more conflicts than in a standalone game, such as what DayZ is becoming. -
Are all the 20 minute players gone?
Maxgor replied to maclawa's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No one is attacking negative feedback, most are going after those that are doing nothing more than complaining for the sake of complaining, usually for having the wrong idea about the mod/game, over entitlement, or are just impatient. -
Mod reached it's peak... See ya in full game
Maxgor replied to FrostDMG's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No publicity? Did you not see that Rocket has been traveling around, visiting events and doing a bunch of interviews? Doing the occasional update on the forums won't help the mod/game all that much as only a small percentage of people that play the game are even on the forums and why would they need the publicity? They already know if they like the game or not. -
Mod reached it's peak... See ya in full game
Maxgor replied to FrostDMG's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well if the game loses someone as clueless as you, it's probably better off. Also, the DayZ mod didn't make any money, the company that made ARMA2 did. Rocket isn't just rolling in piles of cash as some seem to think. -
Does Humanity go down, like Humanity goes up from negative? So if you aren't being actively good with other people, it will go down?

Mod reached it's peak... See ya in full game
Maxgor replied to FrostDMG's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Oh, so close. Almost had a good complaint till you brought this crap up. BI doesn't have to support DayZ, the mod. It never had to and it doesn't ever need to. Just because BI gained alot of sales from DayZ, doesn't mean they have a responsibility to anyone for the mod. The sales came from nothing more than media and youtube hype. -
You also can't kill a zombie with a can of beans, so there is a place in survival for guns lol
-
In case you didn't know or thought otherwise...
Maxgor replied to toxicsludge's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Why would you think that? The only reason the mod isn't getting supported as much right now, is due to them working on the standalone. People complained about not having enough houses to explore in the map, they already fixed that with the standalone, but it's not something they can show, since the standalone isn't available yet. The majority of scripting will be done away with in the standalone, a big problem people have now, but they can't show that progress, cause it's not released. There's only so much they can do right now with the mod, which is mostly just test features, and hope they don't break everything. -
I believe the mechanics for infection were there at one point, but maybe removed to get them working right, such as temperature, as I thought I kept hearing about antibiotics you need to get if your infected, which holds back the infection or something. If the standalone fixes at least zombies being forced to walk inside, that would make them alot more dangerous right there. No more running into a building for safety after gathering a horde and then picking them off at your own pace.

Why Bandit skins are a terrible idea.
Maxgor replied to RaxUK's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've seen it to be about 50/50 lately. I've had some interesting bandit moments, where they didn't just kill me, but tried to rob me...Though I did have some bandits that were rather apologetic when they accidentally shot me and broke a bone, so they bandaged me up, gave me morphine, and gave me my PDW back with a full batch of ammo and then sent me on my way lol I found that having a mic is very important in this game. Saying your friendly or your not going to do anything won't be a guarantee, but it has helped me at times. Everyone should have a mic. They are very cheap to get a reliable one. -
It can be abit of both. I've had some intense moments when I'm trying to survive, I got good gear, and I'm in a quality fire fight, but I've started to do more spawning on the coast, get some gear, and then just be more closer to people and had some entertaining moments from that. It can be intense both ways, depending on what your going for. I do think the long distance stuff gets abit tedious, when you've spent a few days running thousands of meters constantly in the woods to make sure your away from active towns lol That's why I'm starting to play the game abit differently now, purposefully trying new ways of playing, for a new experience, such as not shooting on sight.

How many of you are actually prepared for a real zombie outbreak???
Maxgor replied to zebra0371's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I have food and supplies, basically because I'm ready for a hurricane, so I could be ready for an apocalypse, though I am lacking weapons right now, since the guns I own are currently on the other side of the country lol So I'm partially ready for the survival aspect, though I am lacking in the defensive department lol -
The mod was updated more, cause that was the only focus at the time. Now that they have the ability to actually fix most things with the standalone, of course that is where the most focus will be, and in turn creating alot more work for them. Just because a bunch of people bought ARMA2 for DayZ, a mod that was never designed to be anything more than something for people who already have the game to play, doesn't mean they are entitled to the same consistent support a fully released game gets. Everyone...EVERYONE that bought ARMA2 for DayZ, knew they were gonna be playing a bug filled, alpha, mod, and they went for it anyways. Saying you won't buy the standalone, cause they haven't fixed everything in the mod, is just ridiculous. The reason the standalone is happening, is to fix alot of the problems people have complaining about, which can't be fixed in the mod.

In case you didn't know or thought otherwise...
Maxgor replied to toxicsludge's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
A mod being popular, doesn't suddenly make it a game that people bought. It's still just a mod. Also, this isn't the standalone's Alpha, it's an Alpha mod. Once the standalone releases, it'll probably be in Alpha, then move into Beta, and then release, where it'll continue to be updated as time goes on. Of which they might not get fixed, because this is a mod and it's constantly battling against the base game to work a certain way. I agree that once standalone comes out, that will need will more consistent updates and support, but that is because it's an actual product someone bought and comes with that. There is no guarantee of support for the mod, other than what Rocket feels like doing with it, because it's just a free mod. -
In case you didn't know or thought otherwise...
Maxgor replied to toxicsludge's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Actually I've seen a number of people say that Rocket owes them or has a responsibility to this mod. People think that just because they bought ARMA2 to play DayZ, Rocket is required to fix everything in a timely fashion, just like one would were they a developer for a regular title that people actually paid for. People also think that because they bought the the game specifically for the mod, they bought DayZ, which is not how things work, since the mod wasn't designed to sell copies of ARMA2. -
I'm a hero. I have a big gun. Do you shoot me?
Maxgor replied to HappyMushroom's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I wouldn't anymore, as I'm trying to play more friendly, going against my better judgement to just shoot on sight for a different experience, and being that I know what the skin is, I'd not really have a need to do so.
