Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year

"Having worked on one modification of a game for five years, and releasing precisely zero games, Dean Hall has decided that all of this success is too much for him, and he wants to start his own game studio with none of his former Bohemia Interactive resources" He's got our money as a resource. Yeah and i'm telling you the Irrational games situation isn't comparable. -
Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year
electroban replied to Hetstaine's topic in General Discussion
Irrational Games shut down after Bioshock Infinite was actually released as a full and polished product. NOT THE SAME. No one would get mad at rocket if he stepped down after DayZ has as much finish as infinite did. Because that would be him, fulfilling his promise and giving us the actual full game. Not some shade of a game forever stuck in alpha/beta -

Yeah it happens all the time. Definitely. Creative/design lead announcing he's stepping down before the beta has even started. Yeah happens alllll the time. -

You don't move up in life if you renege on a tonne of your promises and haven't got the staying power to stick to things. A lot of people hate their jobs, they still have to do them. Due to the success of the alpha, aka the money we've given him, he's clearly decided to say fuck it, and walk out. With the money we gave him. To go make a different game, with the money we gave him. A load of broken promises, he's like the New Zealand Peter Molyneux, lots of promises, that's it. I'll piss my pants laughing if he resurfaces asking for that early access money for his new project. Tarnished reputation. -

Banished is alright, I mean it's made by one guy, and it's polished, he's not asking you to pay money to beta test his game then leave through the process either, so that puts him a head above other titles out there. Banished is what Godus should of been. Very peaceful game. -

Transparent, yeah sure man. Sure yeah. Deffo! He says this, you know, now. After everyone bought the game he's now abandoning. The timing as to when he chooses to be transparent is fantastic. For his wallet that is. -

Well I wouldn't go that far, if he came out with something that clearly looked polished, that didn't look like a 3 year wait till the game is done sure. Don't be coming around here with your early access, try the beta now bullshit Dean. Polished release or GTFO. Go look at banished, that's one guy mate. He ain't asking me for fuking money to alpha test his shit. -

Just be really cautious when his studio comes out with another early access asking for money. Only people that'll be handing him cash are the apologists in this thread tbh. -

Aren't Bohemia full steaming with ARMA III at this point? I highly doubt DayZ (something that isn't their baby) is going to be featuring on the priority list, it was a decent cash bump. But then again guys DayZ is ultimately a flawed concept. Why the fuk would Bohemia put work into something its Lead Dev describes publically as a fukin flawed concept. -

electroban replied to Hetstaine's topic in General Discussion
Yeah sure, I'm not surprised at all about the timing as to when he does it, after the game goes on sale. AFTER the game goes on sale lets' announce the game as a "flawed concept" and then furthermore announce that you're leaving. Do it after though. For the sake of transparency. I'm sure he'll use our early access money to wipe the tears of remorse from his eyes no doubt. I'd give him kudos for transparency if he announced this before the game came out. "I feel like DayZ is a fundamentally flawed concept," he went on, "and I've always recognised that. It's not the perfect game; it's not the multiplayer experience, and it never can be, [with] the absolute spark that I want in it." Transparency? GET REAL SON. SAY THIS BEFORE YOU RELEASE THE GAME???? A lot of people including myself were sold on Deans creative vision for the game. Now he's removed himself from the game... But we get it, he's an entrepreneur a real business man. -

Nice timing though, his announcement, he couldn't announce this of course, before they released the game to early access, no of course not, why would they? Transparency isn't going to help boost sales. GET REAL. He must of known that he was leaving when they were charging for the standalone. Best bring it up later though. -

He just flaked out of his own game. That's the end of this story. Works on game until alpha, gets home sick, flakes out of development at Alpha stage, he's flaking out during the alpha stage, and this is OK to people? jesus. The professionalism of this is zero to none. Again more comparisons; it's like Ken Levine flaking out of BioShock infinite at alpha stage cos he wants to work on other projects. It's ok because Ken is the ideas man, he can leave his drones to do it. No Ken Levine leaves when Bioshock Infinite IS FINISHED. Whoever thinks this is normal practice for development, then get real. This is just another message to people to be cautious on buying early access. They give no fucks they have the lion share of the money now. -

This game will not forever be in development limbo. In a years time you'll come back to the game and be wowed with the tonne of implemented mechanics and other interesting ideas and polish inside the game. ahahahahahahha -

Scumbag devs like this, they shouldn't be allowed early access and beta models. Selling lies and cashing out early. You think the game will get better without a development lead? Really? -

electroban replied to Hetstaine's topic in General Discussion
Yeah cos we've all seen how well the game gets developed without Rocket, the mod being a prime example. Fact is, it's like fucking Sid Meier's leave a god damn civ game mid alpha cos he wants a change of sprint. Sorry it seems like everyone forgot the multitude of promises and implmentations rocket was spouting out of his ass during all those dev interviews the guy at this point is essentially a PR entity. Fact of the matter is it's like he put it "soon no one will care" he means he hopes no one care,s they made their money with DayZ already, everyone purchased the shit out of the Alpha. This is just all seems pretty typical of his personality and the track record of dayZ. It's bad enough he left mid dev cycle in the pre-alpha to go on a holiday, now he's saying he's chucking it in. This shit wouldn't of happened if early access wasn't allowed, he wouldn't of been able to sell us all on a half baked product, then cut and run the fuk on. -

Rocket, sheesh. So he's sold everyone an Alpha build of a game, a bare bones one at that, got a shit load of money off of people that are inspired by the vision of what the game could be. Then he just fucking leaves? Fucking hell, now all we need is theforum staff to jump in the thread and start defending these stupid actions. He was literally trying to sell us on "the standalone this" "the standalone that" "wait for the standalone". It's been out in alpha stage for how long now? and he bails the fuck out? -
If the bandit skins are still in the standalone I'm going to be pissed.
electroban posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Ok so I shot that guy in the face cos he looked at me funny, and I shot that other guy in the face cos he was eyeing my backpack with his ironsights. Oh so now I'm a bandit? Sorry don't call this is a realistic iimmersive experience when my clothes are being forceably changed so I stand out to everyone else as a murdering bastard. This games all about being anonymous, hence why there's no chat. I just think it's BS my skin is being changed based on some kind of punishing moral system? That's BS and it needs to stay out. If it was a real zombie apocalypse and i murdered a load of people cos I had to, I wouldn't start wearing their skins as clothing for when I run into more people. TLDR : We do what we do to survive in the game, it's completely immersion breaking to have skins forced on your character that identify you as a killer, I want to keep that information to myself? So quit it already. Better not be in the SA.- 274 replies

DayZ Needs to Answer the "Now What?" Question I've been playing the indie PC title "Don't Starve" and in many ways it bears the same burden the DayZ gameplay model has. You start out in Don't Starve not knowing what the heck is going on, and just have to work things out as you go along; explore the environment and find key resources that you need to survive, whilst at the same time surviving from the perils of the wilderness and the night time dog attacks. Very similar to my first time experience of DayZ, the best kind of in game achievement; discovering things on your own and making things work to your own game play. Then like DayZ I ruined the game for myself slightly by consulting the wiki's, sucking the air out of the rest of the in game mystery and discovery. Then as the days go past in Don't Starve, and likewise in DayZ, and you have finally managed to secure resources and secure your own longevity indefinitely... the question of Now What? arises. Don't Starve doesn't have a multi player component so they added in an instanced PvE section into the game build by going into a sink hole to PvE against monsters. This is something they've tried to do to address their own Now What? problem. In survival sandbox games like this, you'll always hit a peak where you can maintain your health and survival and then hit that Now What? moment. If you give a bored player an opportunity to gun down another player for entertainment, then sure why wouldn't they take it, what else do they have to do? I hope that Dayz Standalone will answer the Now What question, maybe increasing the difficulty of survival or at least the resource management per server. So instead a player doesn't have time to think "Now What" because the pressure to survive and maintain themselves will be ever present. And if that pressure isn't there, then in all fairness, expect to be gunned down. Also you should try Don't Starve you'll like it. It's like the tim burton of survival games

''Arma 2 Free'' DayZ vs ''Arma 2 Paid version'' DayZ
electroban replied to minde0815's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah this kind of topic always reminds me to roll my eyes at DayZ defenders saying that is a free game. The same way as like there's free drinks at the Porsche club, you'll need a Porsche though. -
Release dates are good for business, publishers that are successful know how to both crack the whip and still deliver a solid product. But let's be clear on the disturbing part, they are releasing a half finished game to the public. So they don't know when their half finished game is going to be released? I mean you've only got half a game to make before you can make it a public alpha. Not to mention the amount of assets they can just take from Arma. I feel like the team making DayZ mayhapz isn't getting enough pressure to knock it out the park. In fact to all the people with the 'not this thread again' attitude should stfu, you should be more concerned when no one gives a fuck about the release because they are all playing the division and other polished dayz like games. People asking for a release date is a good thing - it shows interest. Someone else mentioned on the thread earlier about forum mods. I do agree any kind of negative feed back is met with a gang bang of community support staff that aren't supporting as much as they are trying to prove how witty they are; maybe lost in the idea that because they have their names highlighted in blue what they have to say is some how of greater value than the user base that posts. Tldr:Standalone needs to get released and fast - deadlines are a good thing for business.

Will anyone else play KOS in SA when it comes out?
electroban replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Again if the game didn't want you to kill other players the option wouldn't be there.
