Can I play dayZ with the Free arma 2 and paid operation arrowhead?
Tukker replied to emilgebl's topic in New Player Discussion
yes you can use the free Arma 2 and paid Operation Arrowhead. I was using that up to 1.5.8 - then I bought Arma 2 retail for the improved graphics and because I love Arma :D -
Issues before even purchasing ArmA, anyone willing to help
Tukker replied to failure_always_sounded_better@hotmail.co.uk's topic in New Player Discussion
I used the free version of Aram 2 w/ the steam purchased version of Operation Arrowhead and it worked just fine. You'll have crappier graphics (low res) but it still worked very well. Last week, because of this mod, I purchased the retail version of Arma 2 from Steam and it works the same as before but now it is sexier. My advice would be if you haven't bought anything yet to buy combined ops somewhere (arma 2 and operation arrowed together). It was $14.99 on amazon a week ago I'm sure other deals are to be had (you by no means need the Steam version of this game). Hope that helps. -
yep only time I've experienced this is when I alt-tab and get message (i.e. FRAPS telling me out of disk space yet again lol). Other than it never has happened to me.

I agree with the OP to a degree. Also disagree - I'm still finding really rewarding team work with random people. I think there is a lot more "deathmatch" type gameplay going on. And I also love the mod and idea - so I'm going to stick it out and keep testing it to make it the best it can be. Rocket has to test different things out with us - he has to test the extremes and all points in between to see where this mod with thrive. So unlike the OP I'm gonna stick around and help out by playing and helping new players.

Question about alternate profiles
Tukker replied to Sardaukar's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
doesn't work. he will have his character name (maybe looks - can't recall) but play your game (your items, location etc.). Tried it with my son. -
Bandits like it easy and don't want the skin for that reason.

The One, The Only: I HATE TEMP THREAD
Tukker replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I love this mechanic. Works great. Played yesterday and was forced to team up with 3 other players (1 had compass, 1 had map, 1 had matches....none had wood) to try and keep our temps up while it rained through the night. We had a great time. Encourages movement and can encourage team work as well. (this was in 1.5.8.3) -
First kill... hated it :( Thanks the devs!
Tukker replied to mikyjax's topic in New Player Discussion
yep. I try not kill people either Miky. To be fair you tried not to kill the guy - you did what you could to prevent it. He was in a notorious part of the map, carrying a lot of gear that could rip through you and not communicating. Everyone knows when you see someone you watch the chat for the "friendly?" and you respond asap. Not your fault. I think it was either him or you. I think in real life in a him or you situation you would do the same thing for personal saftey - you're doing it right. -
1. Wrong. 2. They are fine and you can slow them down a variety of ways. 3. I don't know why 3 is C. Also Nightime is great. Again just because you haven't learned how to surrive and thrive at night doesn't mean it's broke. Also the fear of the night play encourages better preperation during the day play - kinda like real survival - you have to perpare for the night. 4. If anything they aren't aware enough when you are belly crawling. I had a cough from infection and chemlight and crawled through 2 towns undetected by all the Zeds around me (some no more than 4 or 5 feet from me). *. I'm not sure why 5 is a *. The wilderness is awesome. There is a reason you are getting steam rolled in the cities and it's because you haven't done work in the woods / small towns / farms. 6. Agreed. I just hope the tweaks don't come from your suggestions listed above as those really aren't the things that need fixing (I can agree some animations etc. need work).

DayZRadio.com - Your best chance of survival. ( 5PM GMT / 10AM LA / 1PM NY )
Tukker replied to ECH0's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Good stuff. Reminds me of the movie The Warriors (which is a survival movie really lol) with the Radio DJ scenes etc. really nice job. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8GJoPeRhvM -
Actually the new system does have benefits. You can move things around in your pack and inventory and use them as needed without leaving the inventory screen. You can also choose to drink water from whatever source you want (canteen or pop) depending on what your needs or wants are without having to awkwardly shuffling things around and exit inventory screen just to use the right beverage (just an example). I think the new system is superior in some ways (obviously less intuitive for other things and more clicks for most things)....but ultimately more control.

^^^ yep totally agree Narc. At the same time I say we test it out and verify it - I actually I had a good team work session yesterday with a fellow from Russia. So it isn't completely borked yet - but I think as people become more jaded by the constant PKing that it will definetly become a shoot first type environment. And I think Rocket has more tricks up his sleeve and is just testing some things right now. Let's have faith - there is still a lot we can do to help test the mod and to have fun in the game I believe.
-
^^^ yep. Barnesy. So many people all day yesterday seemed to have only downloaded dayz_code and been having problems....in addition to not reading the notes on the changes. Basically DayZ servers were a IRC support channel all day yesterday lol
-
^^ yep same way until yesterday. Never killed a survivor but yesterday I did. Still I think there is a way to play that can be fun for those of us that don't want to deathmatch the game like the bandits do. We just don't get the free pass that the bandits do.
-
^^^ the point has been missed.
-
I actually use FaceTrackNoIR which is very similar. If you have a high fps webcam (the PS3 Eye works amazing). This program is free and tracks your head without the gear on your head. If I had the money I would definetly pick up TrackIR because everything I read says it is better :) but there are "free" or cheaper alternatives.
-
just shoot everyone and steal their stuff. there is no negative for doing so - it's all positive. no one knows you did it. you get free loot and you're alive. 100% in the black.
-
yes but the "honest" bandit if that's what you want to call it had to work to get humanity back (which is fair) now they can just slaughter endlessly. They will farm other players. And I would say the vast majority (my guess only from time playing) weren't killing - running up north - getting humanity back and repeating. Whatever I'm pretty sure this is just another one of Rocket's social experiments to see how people would react to such nonsense. Well played Rocket :) back to DayZ for me - still the best thing ever.
-
You're somewhat right - it was well balanced before. Now it's free for bandits - they don't have risk or consequences to how they play - pure profit now. Agreed.
-
Well they don't have to hide on the roof tops with sniper rifles anymore do they? and if you read through this thread the main boo-hoo that pro bandits have is that they were "unfairly" shot on site. Oh and I should mention for the sake of full disclosure :) before this patch I had never killed a survivor but I did kill bandits. But since the patch I have killed 1 survivor but I have also had my best "team work" moement in the game since the new patch. Even though I'm not in favor of it - it hasn't "broke" the game as far as I can tell...yet.
-
Sorry what is the draw back to just murdering everyone you find and stealing their stuff? I know there used to be a draw back but not so anymore.
-
well it's pretty apprarent in this thread that bandits like the proposed change.....that's odd? /sarcasm
-
The bandit skin forces you to kill others though! Otherwise they see you in your shemagh and open up like theres no tomorrow and thats how the vast majority of players treat bandits. I'm fine with this. Bandit's are better at getting together and working together than survivors are. I'm sure they could get together in a small group and work on improving their humanity through healing etc. It's not a death sentence to be a bandit nor is it permanent - it's a great mechanic in the game that will be missed - at least by me.
