I asked the same question earlier today, I'll share my knowledge. Most commonly, clans or server admins (and company) will collect vehicles and drive them to a remote location to stockpile items. You can regularly find videos of people stumbling on these "bases". A friend and I spent 3 days scanning spawn points and gave up in frustration only to discover this fact today. Really a bummer... I know.

I live in -5, I actually only look for server that have "GMT -8" in their title. I don't have much luck with DayZ Commander when it comes to daylight filtering.

There's a Burger King on the NW corner of 5th and Main. The easiest source is canned food found all over the place in small towns. Just check sheds, outhouses, and open buldings(can see in the windows). Alternatively, if you have matches+knife+hatchet you can kill and animal, skin it, cut wood, make a fire, and cook the meat.

I can't vouch for it being a "known bug", but I have experienced that a number of times. I would just change servers rather than investigate the issue.

I'm sorry if I've done anything to offend you... I thoroughly enjoy this mod so far, and my biggest peeve is the time it takes to meet up and play with 2-3 friends when my actual time available to play is limited. I thought I was making a reasonable statement when I said the game lacked a feature to allow friends to play together easily, while considering the fact that many others are abusing the "mechanic". I'm sorry you feel that I should be punished. All-in-all this has clearly become too personal and no longer relates to the original post so i'll let it end here.

Clearly this is a lack of the proper feature at this point rather than an issue of catering to anyone. You have those that respawn to simply spawn at a higher loot area, and then there are those who simply want to play with their friends (like myself). Personally, I hope to never be punished for trying to enjoy the experience with my friends.

Been playing for about a week with a buddy of mine. After surviving multiple days and getting armed to the teeth we decided we needed a vehicle. We searched nearly every spawn point and didn't find a single vehicle, some nights we'd end up talking on skype while mindlessly running from spawn to spawn (boring) until it simply got too late. We eventually became too bored of our search/lack of action and have since been camping out on rooftops murdering people for fun (incredibly fun) . After reading some threads it appears players/clans tend to hoard the damn things in the middle of nowhere... Is this true? Will those vehicles never de/respawn for those of us searching for them? We're under the impression we'd need to run to the NW for 2 hours if we even hoped to find one.
