So I was hold up in the church in electro trying to stay safe and wait for friends to meet up... *POOF* Everyone on the server is teleported to some random location... I have no idea where I am, but I have heard of this... then someone screams over direct chat THUNDER DOME I know where I am now.. I have read about this place. I quickly run away and try to log, but cant, then I see a player and he rushes to a ammo crate... Bastard was being picky.. I just grabbed the first thing I found and BOOM.. hes dead. Then I see a Gilisuite guy... BOOM hes dead I get up in a perch and BOOM pick off another guy. My friends have died by this point and I am starting to see less and less people dying and I am hearing less gun fire. I figure its safe to go down and get a better gun. I grab a backpack and toss a sniper rifle (50 cal.) in the pack and some ammo, start to get grenades and boom I got killed. ALL MEN ENTER ONE MAN LEAVES I have to say it was fun! (but I didn't have anything worth losing, feel bad for the ones who lost a lot) P.S. I have been hacked 6 times in the past 3 days.. WTF is happening in DayZ?

I had 3 zombie kills for 2 days, I just ran and ran. Now that I have great gear I have lots of zombie kills. If you don't use a Lee Enfield, you can avoid zombies

I spent my first few days in the game being killed again and again and again by players and hackers, I would always call Friendly, 3 mins later I am shot in the back by the other player. I even saved a player from a zombie swarm in CHerno, how'd he repay me... Shot me. I have been sniped, run over, shot, Axed.. Hell even had a guy open a door into me and broke my legs. Sorry I am not losing any more gear to anyone. I see you and I don't know you, I am killing you.

I was just forced to gun a man down. I am pretty geared up now, AK with a Kobra scope, Alice Pack, 2 or every medical supply, 4 food, 4 drink, all the tools. Only thing I am lacking are better guns, and so I was heading to the NWAF to find a them. I was looting near NWAF in one of the towns, trying to find something I don't have. There was lots of gear here but I already have everything, so I spent my time eating and drinking as much as I could, and killing the odd zombie for fun. I figured I would wait here till night and then move out. All of a sudden I hear footsteps and lots of Zs coming into the building I am in, I am not 100% sure if I attracted the Zs or if another player is downstairs, so I head to the end of the hall, go prone and wait. Minute later, I head food being eaten and soda being drank, then a Z comes walking up the stairs, hes heads right at me and I have to shoot him... Damn I have tipped my hand... other players knows i'm here for sure now. I can hear the player moving around and eating and drinking, I know he's coming up stairs next, I have all entrances to the hall covered, i'm ready. He rushed up and stops at the top of the stairs and looks around, he's got an Alice pack and a Winchester, this I can see, and if that's the only gun he has... He's gonna want mine! I know there's no point in calling "friendly?", since no one ever is. He sprints across from the stairs right into a room. I wait! I had a clear shot, but it wasn't a kill shot. "When he leaves the room.. I've got him." He rushes out the room and I open up full auto into his back. 5 shots hit but he is able to dart out the door. I wait a few seconds to see if I got the murder or see if he disconnects. I don't see either, maybe hes laying unconscious out on the roof... I get up to go check, I look out and there's no body laying there... He's alive! I rush back to my spot and set up for the attack. I know he's gonna come down the stairs if he's still around and I have a clear shot. I wait (This is thrilling!!!) It's been a minute and he still hasn't come down, I get up and start to go hunt for him, I move towards the stairs and we meet eye to eye! I open up full towards him, he fires wildly at me. I back around the corner and put in a new mag. I see the message he died and hear the flies. Sorry mate, it's kill or be killed... I think i know why people like to kill other people in this game now, Zombies are not scary, Humans are scary.

This game is not for you, you can't understand the game play mechanics of it and your mind set is clear better suited to COD or WOW. No one feels sorry for you, you didn't do any research before getting into this mod, so your lack of enjoyment is your own fault.

Seems a lot of People just don't seem to understand this game. Well lets first start out by explaining that its a Free Alpha MOD for one of the most difficult FPS games ever made. "ArmA2". If you are ever played ArmA you will know it's the highest class of FPS out there. Not because its a great game over all, it has lots of flaws (GFX, SOUND, INTERFACE...), but because it's the most realistic shooter you'll ever play. Bullet drop, line of sight, the way helicopters fly, cover, camo, map size, all these are things that make it what it is. If you love COD, or counter strike, just go away now, this game will make you hate life. It's for people who are more mature, want a different style of FPS and have patients. DAYZ wouldn't work on any other game if you ask me, ArmA2 is the perfect base for this game. Now that you understand what DAYZ is based on we can get to starting out. THE GOAL OF DAYZ IS TO SURVIVE! So when you spawn the first thing you will notice are the icons on the right side of the screen. EAR = how much sound you make EYE = how visible you are THERMOMETER = your body temp (42c is normal) CANTEEN = how thirsty you are DROPLET = how much blood you have (12000 is normal) FORK and KNIFE = how hungry you are The ear and eye are used to determine how likely you are of alerting zombies. The others all impact how well your character is able to perform. When you are healthy, you can Sprint longer, aim better, see better and catch your breath sooner. But as you do things such as get hurt, run, get cold from swimming or rain, your icons will turn from green to red, when you are in desperate need they will flash red. You will realize that you have no weapon and only some bandages, painkillers, a flashlight, and a small backpack. Not having a gun makes the first part of this game a learning to search tutorial. Soon after you start to venture out you will come a cross a zombie or two; here's hoping you watched a few youtube videos first so you will know they move fast once you are in their line of sight. But here is the good news, zombies need 3 sight bars to see you and 4 sound bars to hear you when you are in their area, so stay low and walk slowly and you will get away. More then likely you will have a zombie or 4 chasing you rather soon, here's some good news, they can't catch you when you are running... Not ever. So as long as you are running you wont die, they wont give up the chase, but they wont get ya, so keep running. There are 3 ways to get rid of zombies: 1) Kill them with a weapon 2) Lead them into an enter-able house/ building. This forces them to slowly stumble towards you and you can often move around them or go out the other side, zombie free 3) Kyte them around obstacles till LOS is lost. If you run around a building and other obstacles, you can cause them to get stuck behind something and get away. If you are bleeding, you need to use the bandage If you are shaking, you need to use the painkillers Next thing you need to know is that Zombies are not the only thing trying to kill you. Lots of people like to kill other players on sight or even hunt them down. Don't worry not everyone you meet will try to kill you, there are friendly people out there who will work with you, help you and even defend you. But sadly you need to worry about other humans who will kill you. But don't get upset when someone does kill you, you'll learn from every death and before you know it, you will have all the best gear too. Were can I find gear? At the start stay away from the big cities, its far too dangerous, you need to find a small village, look for a barn, stable, warehouse, red brick building. You'll figure out which buildings are enter-able after some trial and error (Patients is needed). You can often find good starting weapons like M1911 hand gun, Winchester 1866 shotgun, Lee Enfield rifles. These guns are in fact far more powerful then some of the elite guns like the G17 or the MP5, and the ammo is much easier to find. Now that you have a gun, you need to find food and water. Look at the ocean, now turn around and run inland; until you get better there's no need to try to venture into the dangerous big cities when there is 255km2 for you to explore. you will find small villages, deer stands, barns, gas stations and all kinds of other things in the world and each location has the chance that you will find gear. But at some point you are gonna need to go into a bigger city to find supplies such as, watches, maps, morphine, baked beans (baby), tools and weapons, ect. Learn to survive the zombies in the smaller villages first before you head to Electro, trust me, you learn from every death. OMG YOU DIED! "I lost all my stuff... WTF, this f#%ing game sucks!" "That Player Killed me.. SO BS!" "it's unfair" Realize that this is what DayZ is about, it's about surviving and you are gonna die a lot at the start. Once you get familiar where gear can be found you'll get better at finding it and you'll get braver, so don't get attached to your gear. Just start over and go get it again, try a different tactic this time. Some other things to know. Morphine is used to fix broken bones Tool boxes are used to take down barbed wire and tank traps set up by players Hunting Knife is a tool, not a weapon, its used to gut animals you kill. You need matches and a wood pile to make a fire You make a fire to cook raw meet that you gutted from the animal you killed The Hatchet is a weapon and a tool, its used to harvest wood piles You need to place your items in a new pack (or drop them) before you drop your coyote pack or you'll lose your stuff. Flares create a lot more light then chem lights, but give away your position for kilometers You need 2 ppl to use Blood packs Cooked Meat will give you back 800 blood, but all food gives you some blood back. This game is an ALPHA and ARMA is naturally glitchy, so just accept it and learn to get past the bugs. Hackers are real and they are lame, but there's no point in posting about it, don't feed the trolls. I have been playing for about 4 days now. Like all new people the first couple of times playing this game was so very annoying that I almost gave up on it. I didn't understand how to stay alive. I was killed by Zombies so many times before I realized I could just out run most of them. The first few times I ran into other players they were helpful and tried to show me what to do. But of course I had a run in with the evil killers and people who had better guns, better gear and now were hunting humans for fun. The first few times I was killed by another player it was SO ANNOYING! I mean i had just found my first gear: a Winchester, a Chez backpack, a watch, some food and some water, see a guy behind me and before I can react.. BLAM! So I soon realized that the real foes in this game are the people who will shoot your on the spot and not the Zombies! So i started over, found new gear, out ran zombies and killed a bunch along the way as well. I started out by finding barns, then moving into villages and next big towns. Each time I had to start over I got a bit more risky, moving into bigger and bigger cities to find gear. I found a couple of great people along the way and some new toys as well. Of course the more you get, the more you want and that means you will have to take bigger risks. I was moving towards an air field and all of a sudden TELEPORT.... Everyone on the server is moved into a hanger in Electro... HACKERS FFS..... I died in the hail of gun fire before I was able to log out, next time ill be more prepared for that stunt. So I lose all my gear and have to start over. This really pissed me off... But the fun I had getting all that gear was really the best part, so I started over with a smile. This game is very addictive the more you play, the better you get and the more wise you become. So here's the real story of why this game is exciting! I want gear and fast, so that means I need to hit the hospital, the supermarket and the other buildings to get it... I'm taking the chance, i'm going to Chern! I get into the city with a Winchester in hand and start to move around, being my first time in the city, I don't know where anything is. I happen across a building that has a glass door and find a 1911, I keep searching. I can hear gun fire in the distance all of a sudden... My heart rates jumps! my experience has taught me, get in and get out so as I come up to another building that I can enter, I plan to hurry with my scavenge. I find a Chez backpack, and some food and a watch. I move upstairs. I can hear lots of gun fire... someone is fighting to the death... it's close and I know I need to hurry up and get outta here. I look over the rooms and find more food, bandages, painkillers, hand guns... Okay I have what I need and that gun fire is getting louder.. time to go! Thump, Thump, Thump ITS TOO LATE, they are downstairs! I am not playing this game as a bad guy, I have let lots of people live that i have encountered before, I would rather find a friend then have to kill someone. But what is this person downstairs? Are they coming to kill me... did they just kill someone else and now hes after me? I find a defensive position, there's a hallway and no other way into the room, I have a very clear shot, I go prone, if he comes up here looking for a fight, hes gonna get one and I am ready! I type in direct comm "Friendly" I wait "Friendly" still no response I know hes trying to figure out where I am "I'm not looking for a fight, but if you come at me Ill kill you!" ... "Relax man I'm friendly" The person replies "okay, I'm Friendly as well, but you can't take any chances" I'm not stupid, i know people say they are friendly to drop their guard and as soon as your not looking they will kill you. So I move out of the room with my weapon ready. I run into the gun in the hall and there's a moment where we both don't know how this is gonna turn out. "There's some gear and a backpack in that room back there" I say "Thanks" His name is Harper and he is in fact friendly.... Thank God! We clear the house and start to move out, we can hear a lot of gun fire in the area and don't want to stay too long. We move towards the fire station and clear it, seems safe in the area but we know someone is near by. We move towards the supermarket, covering each other all the way. Find a dead body and dead zombies... This isn't good. Someone was just here and hes not friendly! We clear the supermarket and clean out the dead body. We are both on edge! My heart is racing and I LOVE IT! We move towards a red brick house and dear god another dead survivor. we scout the area quickly and move into get the gear. I hear a gun shot, it was just outside! We both start scanning the windows. Nothing! "Okay lets get the gear and get outta here!" I say just as Harper bends down to get some gear.... BLAM he gets shot! "Hes outside the window i scream over direct comm" Harper type "I know" and dies. OH CRAP OH CRAP!!! I saw him and he saw me.. or did he see me, i'm not waiting around. I dart out of the room and out of the house heading towards him! I'm not letting Harper die in vein. I get out the door... GONE. I run down the side of the house, I run around the fence, I run through the house... I can't find him! I think for a sec and come up with a plan. There are stairs in the house that lead to a locked door, i run up then and go prone facing back down. When he walks into this place I'll get him! I lay there, my heart is racing, I know hes not gonna leave his fresh kill, i know hes coming back! My gun is shaking.. crap I must have been hit, I was too busy running around to notice if I was hurt and bleeding. I'm not bleeding and I haven't been shot... It's my hand on my mouse... So much adrenaline i'm physically shaking. I take a deep breath and steady my nerves. I know you are coming back.. where are you? THUMP THUMP THUMP He just ran in from the other side... Now's my chance! I move towards the hall and there he is, picking Harper clean like the vulture he is. I aim BANG, I fire my winchester but it hits the door frame. I move again aim at his head, BANG.. damn it hes 2 meters from me and I have missed my chance again! He sees me now, his name is Mike and he fires his double barrel shotgun right at me. BAAAMMM! He misses! I open fire again! BANG I see the blood.. HIT he moves to the wall BANG... HIT I nailed him again.. WHY WONT YOU DIE. His gun is empty, he switches to his 1911 BANG BANG we both fire at the same time and I go down Then I see "Mike has been Killed" on the screen. WAIT I'M NOT DEAD, just hurt... damn i'm bleeding bad.. come on wake up! I wake up bandage..2500 blood left.. damn. THAT WAS AMAZING! I quickly open his pack.. take all his food, cooked meat, gear, back pack, blood, pain pills.. this guy was loaded! I look to Harper... "Sorry buddy" I take his food and water. I'm low on life only 4800 now.. but i'm alive.. the screen is grey and I'm in shock.. i need to go! I run out of the town and into the woods, I made it! I have everything now and Mike got what was coming! WOW This game is awesome, I can't believe how amazing it was to live this experience! To all you people out there who have been killed my others, one day you'll be the one who comes out on top and it's an amazing feeling!
