    Hi, We recently rented a managed DayZ server, but it is looking like it is a 'recycled' server: There are tank traps, sandbags and barbed wire in all the major towns, and vehicles are nowhere to been seen. What does one do in cases like this? Rebooting the server doesn't seem to reset things, or is this something that needs to be done in-game with admin commands? We're not looking for any advantage, but would like to start off with a clean slate for everyone. thanks

    They're finally getting around to it for us. Definitely have to plan ahead if you want your own server. If I had to do this again, I would have made the order on a monday so I'd have a chance of having a playable server by the weekend.

    Ok thanks, One more thing, can anyone tell me the difference between: -restarting the server from the control panel my hosting company provides -using the #restart admin command -using the #reassign admin command Or do they all do the same thing?

    DayZ is currently a free addon. The standalone version won't be available for a few months -- it was only announced like last week.

    Then why did you ask the question? You seem to already know the answer. I used Steam. It was fine for me.

    Download and install DayZ Commander. It will tell you everything you need to know.

    Hopefully, a team member will chime in here and clarify. Currently, the "rules" don't give server owners much leeway. If you do shut your server down on a regular basis, people may post server/admin abuse complaints, which may cause your server to be blacklisted.

    I think that shutting down your server is probably against the spirit of the rules. It could be interpreted as you trying to protect your loot when you aren't online. It also means that if people make tentsites on your server, they won't be guaranteed access to it later (go on an extended vacation, and other players will be SOL).

    At least that is somewhat entertaining. Last night my buddy and I were trying to get a vehicle fixed. We JUST found engine parts when he was teleported to the coast with no weapon, inventory or pack. Sad way to end the night.

    A way to join a server as a group

    Use DayZ Commander. You can right click the server name, and it will paste the IP and port number to your clipboard. You can use DayZ Commander to manually add that server to your list. Very easy.

    There are loads more keys to map if you want to use a controller. I don't think it is worth it. I'd recommend getting a USB keyboard with a numeric keypad before I'd use an xbox controller.

    Have you tried putting DayZ on a ramdisk? Do a search, there's a howto video kicking around somewhere.

    Like the other posters said, just start up Operation Arrowhead (my preference) and go to single player. The tutorials and the armory are actually fun to play. One armory challenge turned me into a rabbit, and I had to hide from the hunters for a certain amount of time. Crazy stuff.

    I was on a server last night and came upon a truck hidden in the woods. I proceeded to drive off with the truck when all of a sudden the server reset itself (I'm thinking it was the admin). Now, whenever I go check out that server, it is always dark. Is this possibly another ploy that people use to try and protect their loot?
