  1. People, for the most part it seems, don't want helis because it ruins their opportunity to base build like it's a nicer looking version of Minecraft. People are also against armed helis because they don't like any form of action, but like to play the game and use their imagination and pretend there are threats out there, when in reality there's not a zombie or player for 2000 meters. The only thing more satisfying than finding and getting a armed heli up and running is stealing one when they land or shooting it down. But the community is going more towards wanting to get nice clothes and spend the end game beans hunting. I would actually like to see hand-built gyrocopters in the game. It's very viable for all those crying about 'realism'.

    Standalone Alpha on Steam

The problem being, on a 40max player server with the size of the maps, encounters are few and far between. This keeps the casuals happy though so they don't post 100 threads on KOS and they can sit in the woods pretending they are surviving when in fact there are no zombies or people near them in 2k squared kilometers.

Wow, sounds like heaps of fun!

    Standalone Alpha on Steam

My advice - don't buy it. It's not in a state that is anywhere near fun to play. It may appear so at first, but once you've looted the LIMITED amount of loot there is, it becomes very boring with nothing to do. And respawning - collecting loot you soon realise the pointlessness in it.

Nowhere to go when up north.

Then once you're south, you go north? You're not really making a case for this game being fun.

Nowhere to go when up north.

Pretty much. Once you're geared up the game becomes shoot players until you're out of ammo. But don't mention that, as players on this forum are insufferable fanboys and can't bear to hear any form of criticism.
  7. What are you talking about? This game is clearly perfect. I cannot fault the production of this game one bit, and the fact you are whining and complaining just means you're butthurt and a casual. Also there was a disclaimer saying it's in alpha. How dare you come to this forum and say ANYTHING negative about this game. Regards, Classic Dayz Forum member response.
  8. Being able to use your flashlight DURING THE DAY?!! I cannot fucking wait. Thank you Dean 'Give's me a pocket rocket' Hall. You are the bestest and make the bestest games. Give me a shout out on your next AMA my bro/hero!

Comon guys, we spawn with flashlights so there's no need to run around empty houses anymore! We can run around shooting each others shadows with flashlights. Headshots are 2 points, one for the body. We will need a referee for each duel - we'll create a system that cycles the non-participating combatants to be referees. The player with the most points at the end of the battery life is the winner. Winner stays on. This will keep us occupied before this zombie games gets zombies in it!

I for one am happy Rocket is addressing the issues that the paying community have been asking for. Now I am able to run around shooting my own shadow with the flashlight - which actually gives me something to do seeing as their are no zombies or loot in this game yet.

Translation: Please don't criticise my beloved game or I will be eternally butthurt and emotional - holding a grudge against you for the rest of my days :'(

Are you not excited about being able to use the flashlight during the day? It's fine for Rocket to use valuable time and resources implimenting this feature but suddenly I'm a troll for being excited about it? Which is it?
  15. and jumping ship from his 'baby' and potentially taking the most talented members currently working on SA with him, how can he possibly expect to be trusted again after so many fans of the mod invested and participated in the development of the game to have Rocket give up and express how SA isn't going to be what was promised. The situation reminds me of game developer Peter Molyneux who always managed to hype the innovation of his latest developments (Fable series, Black and White, and that xbox kinect boy thingy that never went anywhere). Only difference between Peter and Dean is Peter only asks for your interest during development and not your cash. How many of you will be reserved about any of his future projects?

Finally 3 pages and only the 2nd reasoned and sensible response! Maybe there is hope for this community yet! Yeah, I'll be weary myself and definitely refrain from supporting anything from in it's early stages, that's for sure. I'm not sure why that statement is so unreasonable and worthy of such a hateful response. I'm mostly surprised by those that seem unphased and almost eager to see what he has to offer in the future. That was the purpose of this thread.

More ad hominem. Not at all surprised. Since when did I say I was content with the game until rocket announced his disappointment? I didn't. Your entire post is a waste of time, and your attempted critique of my education only speaks wonders for your own insecurities.

Question your own. The problem I am arguing is NOT the current state of the alpha build. If that were so, your point would have some credibilty. My point, for the 1000th time is no where in that disclaimer does it say that he plans to leave development in a year (which is later than he expected, by his own admission!) and that this game will not live up to his initial hopes and dreams - and how this relates to his future credibility as a games developer. Is this finally clear now? I'm not crying about the state of the game or anything of the sort. I'm merely asking how many of you would think twice about investing in a future Dean Hall project considering what has happened on this one. But this thread has derailed into an emotional shitstorm of fanboy rages arguing strawmen, red herrings and utter nonsense, for the most part. Times like these always remind me of good old George Bernard Shaw: "I learned long ago, never to wrestle with a pig. You get dirty, and besides, the pig likes it" Maybe some day I will learn...

Being as polite as possible, I think you're not understanding me clearly. 1) I didn't imply at ALL it was happening right away - I based it on Rockets own words that he plans to do so probably at the end of this year. You implied that yourself. Moot point. 2) Leaving development around the time it is due to enter beta is leaving development. Not matter which way you construe it. Moot point. 3)The accusation that he wouldn't, is unfounded. Which is why I repeatedly referred to the likelihood of it happening. Moot point. All your quoting is to argue against a strawman. The point is, I repeat for the god-knows how many time - Why not state the flawed concept and his plan to leave the project around the time alpha was released? Is that SO unreasonable a request?

My quote only served to prove he 'always knew' the premise was flawed and wouldn't live up to expectation. Why omit that before taking everybody's alpha money? It's a perfectly reasonable and honest question to ask. I never even suggested his new projects would use the ARMA engine. In fact I would assume and hope not so! It's not pointless at all. You seem to have missed the point so I'll repeat it: He recently expressed how he ALWAYS knew how flawed the concept was, and will never live up to expectation. My point is say that before hyping and getting a fanbase to commit with cash towards the development. It harms his future credibility.

You're focusing on the wrong part of my point. Many high-hopes, promises and excitement were attached with the alpha release of this game, causing many people to invest and support the development of the game. Dean after months of buys at $30 goes on record to saying he always knew Dayz was a flawed concept and would never live up to his hopes and expectations, and would leave his BABY when he felt no longer OBLIGED. I'm sorry, but if this is the kind of attention and love he gives a beloved project then I brings all sorts of questions in his future development endeavors. But thank you Rage VG for contributing constructively and giving your thoughts. Much appreciated and a breath of fresh air from all these reactionary emotional responses and abuses!

Firstly, it's not Creed, it's Dillon. Secondly your comment is entirely useless and not participating in this thread. At least provide feedback WHY it's a useless thread. I'm growing tired of people reacting emotionally to any criticism of anything DayZ or Rocket related. It's like objectivity does not exist in this forum.

    1. I didn't say every member, yet you accuse me of having a poor reading comprehension. At least you concede the probability of it happening - in which case, do you think replacing team members familiar with dayz and the arma engine with new talents is more likely a positive, or a negative thing? 2. Please stop flaming. I understand ANY critique of DayZ and/or rocket rustles your jimmies, but no need to get emotional. Before you respond with a hot-headed reactionary reply perhaps you should do a little reading yourself first: "I feel like DayZ is a fundamentally flawed concept," he said, "and I've always recognised that. It's not the perfect game; it's not the multiplayer experience, and it never can be, [with] the absolute spark that I want in it." We never heard words like these before the project started, particularly around the time Alpha was released, did we? Promises and excitement was what we got. How useful this would have been before so many people purchased it at almost a full retail price!

Finished is a term he used loosely - more focused on a date which is more likely to be around the time it transitions into beta. Though that's not the MAIN concern. The main concern is it would appear he really has lost the fire he once had for this project, especially seeing as it was his 'baby' he'd been wanted to make for a long long time. This inevitably takes away a significant amount of credibility from his future endeavors, at least in my view. I'm wondering, out of interest, how many people will be more reserved in purchasing future games with his name attached, and how many will just be like OMFG DAYZ YES BUY!
