  1. http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2012/08/good-riddance-the-death-of-online-gamings-monthly-subscription-model/ I win. Haha
  2. Calling them hackers gives them too much credit.
  3. This. OP, who the fuck wants to pay attention to anything you have to say? Yes, it matters if someone uses caps. This isn't 1999. Grammar and decency go a long way. You make yourself look irrelevant. If I want people to pay attention to me I do my best to remember I'm not 13 anymore.

    Zombie Herds

My brain bounces back and forth a lot with DayZ and The Walking Dead. I routinely play this wonderful experiment fantasizing that I'm a character in The Walking Dead (usually the hillbilly badass Zenoist [Zennist? I don't fucking know] Daryl). That show r0kz0rz my b0x0rz In that show there are herds of zombies roaming around. When I go to dayzmod.com there is a picture on the front page with what looks like a herd of zombies. What do ya'll think of this idea? Random, relatively huge, slowly-roaming herds of Zed. These herds would have their own kinds of mechanics, I suppose, to keep them moving from place to place. Wouldn't it just freak you the fuck out to be running through the middle of a forrest, dark as hell, flash light tucked away as you sprint along your merry way when suddenly you come over the crest of a hill to see 100 zombies stumbling up over that same hill. Just one idea to make the Zombies a little more relevant. If this has been suggested I apologize in advance. Well hell, for that matter it'd be nice to see a random zombie here or there while I'm in the middle of no where.

Need Medical Assistance? We can help.

Well you both are in that direction. I'm just going to head that way and see if ya'll still need help in an hour or 2. Edit: Not going atm since Solanum is headed there. I'll keep checking.

Thanks for your beans ;) I've looked all over the map for something that might be "Zub"... if I'm near I'd be glad to help.

Need Medical Assistance? We can help.

Just started a few days ago... roamed around a bit and on 6th life or so, this one is the longest by far. Near Berezino with a good amount of supplies. Willing to help any in need of medical assistance, or help stock up other medics. I'll be on for a few hours.

    Zombie Herds

Thanks for reading my whole post /sarcasm
  9. TL;DR I'm gonna take a quick stab at your problem being thinking of this as "work" HOURS of WORK! I realized a while ago that when I'm thinking of what I'm doing in a game (and this is not a game) as WORK, then I'm no longer having FUN. Get over it.

The expedition to kill 2 people

Sounds like you've been here long enough to lose your sense of sarcasm. OP is a douche bag. Changing your name is pretty pathetic. Period.

Try the Bandit Campfire subforum. I don't want to hear your sick, twisted, murderous thoughts on the pure and angelic General forum.
  12. The title of this post should put a lot of stupid arguments to rest. My one comment on this would be... Free to play with built-in buying power may be the best way to go just for the future security of the game. Social Media has exploded games like Farmville and others (please don't think I'm comparing DayZ to Farmville). They get you in and it's amazing how many people spend a few dollars here and there on digital purchases. There's been a huge shift from the traditional way of just straight out buying a game. It used to be, go buy Mega Man 28, pop it in and you've got your game. The last 15 years, with computer gaming becoming as relevant as console gaming, has added subscription-based gaming. This changed the business of game development and the economics behind it. The last 5 years has been an explosion of these free-to-play games that trigger your obsessive side which ultimately leads to little $1 purchases here and there. That has changed it ever-more so. I think this game has an amazing "grab factor." The best way to let as many people try out a stand-alone DayZ may be to let it be free to play. Or, not necessarily free but let's say $5. $5 is nothing to the average American gamer. What this "game" has to offer is worth WAY more than $5. Automatically, the consumer is getting a ton of VALUE for their dollar. They already feel great about their purchase. Here come the additional little $1 digital purchases along the way. How would that change the gameplay, though? What could be purchased? It'd have to be worth the money. But would these be items that are game-changers? Then we jump into the realm of whether it's "fair" or not. This isn't meant to be fair but the argument will come up. I dunno, maybe add an option, for a $1 digital purchase, for one week when you die you can have the option to pick your respawn point. After the week is up your spawning is random. That would affect how many people kill themselves over and over just to find the right spawn. Maybe have some coding keeping people from killing themselves more than once every 10 minutes? I'd pay $1 to by-pass that for a week. That's just one unique suggestion that tries to add a purchase that won't drastically change the game. Having a ton of different weapons for purchase, for instance, would just flat-out change the game. I doubt you want it going in that kind of direction. Oh! While developing a stand-alone DayZ, for the love of Jobs put a good amount of resources into developing an app to go with the game. The app could cost an additional $5. This could include an interactive map, item list, good god you name it. And it's all accessible while you play the game. You're basically dual-screening DayZ. Console Gaming is going dual-screen, if you hadn't noticed ;) Just another digital purchase idea... another week-long or month-long $1 purchase that would allow you to "alchemize" your food stuffs, changing you Coke cans to Mountain Dew, or your Frank and Beans to Spam. With that, make Spam and Mountain Dew unattainable in the world and only available from this purchase. Another stupid aesthetic thing that people would spend money on... Look at the money Zynga and other companies like it are making. PC Game companies and Console Game companies are looking. DayZ is so unique and different from what is out there. It is cutting-edge. It's an experiment that people make into their game. Keep it on the edge of cutting in every way possible, from the gameplay, to how to pay, distribution, marketing, customer-relations, etc. Hell, you could turn dayzmod.com into its own Social Media site but specifically focused on everyone being their DayZ characters. You've created a community. Respect and use that.
  13. Awesome! You don't hear many bandit's conversion stories. I doubt many convert. You sir, can has my beans. I hope to see another of your posts in a few weeks titled "My conversion from Bandit to Survivor, then Survivor to Medic" ;)

How's about you read a few interviews with the creator and decide for yourself? Oh, deciding for yourself! What a new concept!

    Best servers to play on.

I was just thinking about making a post regarding having an on-going community server list. But, like MONSTER said, that'd make it that much easier for scripters to find the "fresh" servers to rape. I thought it'd be nice to have a good/bad list of known servers. People could post on the thread when they encounter someone using scripts in a particular server. Well, we have a White List. Why not an on-going Black List of those people using scripts? I guess the problem there is it's too easy to just change your name.

    Getting mad here

Solution: Don't get mad over zombies. They're trivial.

    Question about hackers and hacking.

Software security exploits will be around forever. Every piece of software currently has to, and will continue to, worry to some degree about hacking. This will ALWAYS be a factor. From Super Mario Bros. to the computerized machines we have filtering our drinking water. It will always exist.
  18. Hackers are intelligent. Intelligence is a prerequisite to hacking. What people do with this game isn't hacking, nor is it intelligent. In 1997 I was able to send trojans to my fellow middle-schoolers and ruin their lives. They called me a hacker. I knew I wasn't. In 1997 I downloaded a "Map Hack" for Starcraft and was called a hacker. I knew I wasn't. This experiment, which most choose to call a "game", has exploits like every other piece of software ever created. Someone created software/coding to take advantage of those security exploits, these lapses in coding. You don't honestly think every moron wielding an AK-47 knows how to build one? They just know to point it in a direction and pull a trigger. This is why it matters what we call people. If you think otherwise I'll chock that up to your own ignorance.
  19. I respect an actual hacker who uses his skill to further his knowledge. When they get malicious they cross a line. That's a very real line within their community. The person who wrote the code that everyone is using... I'd call that person more of a hacker. However, I'm very careful where I use the term "hacker", PURELY out of the respect for the kinds of knowledge it takes to be extremely successful in penetrating various securities. I'd put money on not a SINGLE one of these scripting 12 year-olds actually knowing anything about anything.
  20. Don't expect "useful" when you give "useless"
  21. You provided nothing just now.
