  1. I'm very aware of how an agree/disagree conversation goes. There is more direct answering to specific questions. You, Xeno, have been resaying the same things over and over. I'll disagree to this being a "good ol' case" because, to me, that would be giving you too much credit.
  2. Xeno, you really don't seem to get anywhere in your posts. I'm done with you B)
  3. Xeno, you consistantly say how Item #1 doesn't affect Item #2, when #1, #2 all the way to #10000 all affect each other. Just having PvE servers available, and offline servers available, would VASTLY change the game. It would change everyone's view of the game. I have a personal issue if I think having a bunch of PvE servers would affect my experience of the game? You... are narrow-minded. To clear this up, do you think that having PvE and offline servers would NOT affect the game in any way? Would it NOT change the image currently being projected by the developers? Would it NOT go against what they have already said are their goals? Riddle me this, jack-o. OP does this, I do that... we ALL do what the developers say. Period. Unless you "hack." However, if you have the knowledge required to successfully "hack" the game and not get caught then you probably already know everything I'm trying to say.
  4. Letting people play how they want. Isn't that what DayZ does? It lets you play how you want. Call up any game and tell me it "let's you play how you want" and I'll call you a liar. It let's you play exactly how the DEVELOPERS designed it. Every time. Even Arma/DayZ. There is no "what we want" since we're not the ones coding it. You claim it would be easy to throw up some PvE servers and let people play the game offline. This goes against the very principles of what this game is all about. I think I'm replying too much to you. You are one of the many who just don't seem to get it. I'd guess every birthday candle you've blown out you were wishing for "world peace" as well. This game is so utterly amazing. I can see why there can be intense discussions on this forum. There are those who see how amazing the game is, and why it is so and want to defend that. This game represents so much more to the entire gaming community. This goes beyond just this game. Wake up and smell reality. When I play this game I want each moment I'm logged in to feel like that moment could be my last. Even knowing there's some fluff-version of this world out there on some PvE server would seriously diminish my experience. Why even bother PvP if there are lame PvE servers filled with people loot-whoring and circle jerking? PvE servers would make me lose all interest in what this game is.
  5. Then start seeing it. There can't be something for everyone. That statement is immature and uneducated. There can NOT be SOMETHING for EVERYONE. That is just a universal truth to LIFE. Apply it to your opinion of gaming. If you want PvE there are a LOT of games out there that are better suited. DayZ doesn't have to be turned into something it's not to satisfy the few who just don't get it.
  6. Xeno, you are making a poor argument. A smart company doesn't just try to snatch up every piece of business as possible. It isn't that narrow. There's a lot more to it than that. You might have answered your own question by saying "every realistic piece of business." You aren't being realistic. Besides, Bohemia is SWIMMING in new cash right now. DayZ has EXPLODED sales of Arma II. All this coming from their current game in Alpha. Do you think they want to alienate everyone?
  7. There is no PK problem. I've noticed quite a few servers with announcements saying things like "PvE server: Kill others and you'll be banned." I think that answers one issue. There are PvE servers, it's just up to the admins to make it that way and, most importantly, to enforce their own rules. I'm sure there will be some reliable, trustworthy PvE servers gaining popularity. You can still get killed by other players on these servers, of course. PvP is the ultimate, high-end, competition ran, blood pumping, test-your-limits type of gameplay that sets the great games from the rest. Play any game against a computer, then start playing it against another human and your skill grows exponentially. Playing against another living, breathing intelligent person raises your game. It has to or you're dead. The thing is, Gadget, you sound like the kind of person who likes to be fed his entertainment. Most of the video game customer base is like that. You want a nice package given to you to enjoy and that makes everything seem "fair." I'd like to see an argument that Chess should no longer include a PvP aspect. This is just getting ridiculous. Edit: I wanted to add a comment to a quote from Xeno: Actually, it makes more sense to me that games are defined exactly how their developers make them. There is no rule saying a game should be everything for everyone. There happens to now be a base of players who prefer more of a PvE aspect. Does this mean it SHOULD be this way? Of course not. You can't please everybody. If they start to compromise some of the key reasons for this game's greatness then the game will no longer have... greatness. It'll be just another compromised pile of crap.
  8. Interesting... If I couldn't turn my gamma up the night-time play might make the game unbearable to play, to be honest. But interesting idea. I don't see video settings being taken away. I guess the thing I first noticed was how unrealistically dark the night actually is. With normal video settings you literally don't see a thing. The tree in front of your face is as black as the rest of it. That's not realistic. Gamma helps. It may make it even more realistic. When running through a forrest or a town at night with gamma/brightness up it resembles the kind of lighting I'd experience with a full moon. IRL, with a full moon I can see at night just fine. I think the thing I'm learning is if I see someone using a flare/chem/flashlight then I'm more prone to label them as "noob". I'm happily still in that category.

    Starry fight on US853 yesterday

Dunno if they'll read it but I'm glad you posted it I'm only a few days into playing DayZ. I still haven't seen another living soul. Plenty of unliving souls and quite a few dead bodies. I've even heard plenty of close gun fire but still no other players. Hearing these stories just builds the anticipation
  10. You, sir, are now a bandit. GET HIM!

Thank you for this great mod!

I agree! This game has thrown me into a whole new gaming experience. I've gotten so used to being pulled one way or the other by intense story lines and/or gaming progression. This mod strips all that fluff down from the get-go and immerses you in another world. There are games. DayZ is more than that. I downloaded a few other games from Steam. I can't get 10 minutes into any of them without getting sick of another lame story and experiencing the same crap that's been regurgitated since the 80s. DayZ, you are ruining me! My best tip for night-time travel is... go to your Video settings and turn your Gamma, Vision and Brightness all the way up. Within a couple days I was used to the night time. I'll still pop on my flashlight here and there (still a noob) but once I get my head blown off and I lose my Alice bag FULL of food/drink I'll probably change that tune. Also, at night when stalking around a town I like to move either in crouch (in walk mode, pinky on Shift to run through grass as it doesn't make it any louder) or walk while standing with my flashlight ready to turn on in case I get spooked (so, all the time...). Edit: In response to Daddy'o... I don't suggest flares or chemlights, ever. You've got your flashlight if you need it. Even using that will get you dead eventually. Flares and chemlights are basically asking to get gutted. And suggesting not playing on a "night server"? Well, every server has a day/night cycle... and how else do you get into towns to get gear? I certaintly don't wander in during the day time. Night time is the only time I can safely get in and out without getting a face full of Zed.
