How populated is Green Mountain?
Squirreli replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Great thread ;) Anyways, Green Mountain has 2 vehicle spawns and 3 deer stands. It is located smack in the midle of Pogorevka/Rogovo, Zelenogorsk and Pustoshka. So yes, it is a relatively interesting and frequented place, so keep a good overwatch when going there. Had a fair share of combat on and around the mountain. -
Am I the only bandit who feels guilty when he kills someone?
Squirreli replied to iGolden's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Just yesterday we had an excellent man-hunt. We were holding near Stary and spotted a pair of guys far to our south. We started to intercept. There were 5 of us and we had 2 x thermal in the squad, so it was relatively safe. Once spotted, we trailed them for maybe a kilometer, making sure they didn't get the jump on us. Then we caught them stationary for a while, took ranges and opened up. Our DMR guy got the other with a single headshot, but the other guy managed to run off despite 3-4 guys shooting at him. I flanked and when we spotted the guy again, I was closest and support was 300m+ behind. What followed was a 1,5km long hunt after the guy. He ran, I tried to spot him and not get killed. Finally, after a while, I found him taking cover and preparing for ambush in a few trees and flanked again. This time he didn't get to run. TL;DR: 5 guys with thermals and DMRs hunt down 2 guys with inferior gear, FEELS GOOD MAN, hoping for more opponents and bigger firefights, but I take what I can! No regrets <3 PS. Thank you very much guys for not disconnecting! It was terribly uneven but still made our day. Hope it was good for the victims too ;) -
Am I the only bandit who feels guilty when he kills someone?
Squirreli replied to iGolden's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
KOS, no regrets. It is a game, and PvP is an integral part of it. Although, if I'm not actively hunting, I do make an exception for people who go out of their way to show they could have killed me with impunity. Happens rarely. Once I was thrown with a flare as a warning. Didn't engage but instead asked for a transfusion. All went well and they got 2 blood packs out of the deal. This kind of stuff works down south, sometimes, but after you trek a few kilometers up north its Go Time. -
I think there is a bug in this build with tents and vehicles, where a tent/vehicle will, upon server restart, gets back all the equipment it had when last someone used "Save Old Camping Tent" on it. Since many servers seem to restart at intervals of few hours and this bug allows for accidental and also easy, purposeful item duping, there have been much more high-end loot around lately. So, when encountering tents please click "Save Old Camping Tent" to deny others the said NVG etc ;) PS. I could be wrong, if so, please do correct me!

The Bandit Dilemma: An Inner Look at the Economics and Psychology of Banditry and the Inevitable Collapse of Day Z
Squirreli replied to Chiefmon's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Would you care to give some sources to back up these stereotypes you brought up? To me this seems like you've been reading up on too much propaganda about the evils of gaming. I greatly disagree with your post and am tempted to call you, Sir, a troll. -
Whoever was at NW Airfield firestation with ghillie suit...
Squirreli replied to vanden1989's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Due to a bug all tents and vehicles dupe gear -> a lot more elite gear to go around all the time... As far as I know, if you don't save a tent/vehicle in this build, once server restarts, the tent/vehicle will revert to the original inventory it had when last saved. I keep finding these tent villages that are most of the time full of gear. Luckily there is a new build around the corner <3 ... Remember to empty and save all tents you encounter ;) -
The Bandit Dilemma: An Inner Look at the Economics and Psychology of Banditry and the Inevitable Collapse of Day Z
Squirreli replied to Chiefmon's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Bandit's Dilemma assumes that you can not communicate and are not already in a group large enough. Taking previous groups and VoIP into account skews the balance even further to the bandit's advantage. Once you're grouped up, you have no need for other players and the risk-reward ratio of interacting peacefully with them becomes even worse. Usually these pre-organized groups are on VoIP and really self-contained. Anyone outside is a liability. Also: As the game stands now, the obvious end-game, once you've tooled up, is to fight other tooled up players. For me this is the reason I keep playing the game. I love the immersion of it and the rushes the game gives me like no other game, but still, PvP is an integral part of that. If I really wanted to roleplay I'd want more tools for it from the game. Right now it is not wort it to roleplay much. Your mileage might vary. Sorry if this had been covered. Tried to read all of the 2 threads' posts quickly, might have missed something. -
Do you use servers with 3rd person enabled?
Squirreli replied to blueskin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
3rd person mode = peeking around walls = annoying as hell. I want a chance to see the person spying on me, no matter how slim. Nametags = partial wallhack = no way I'll play on one of those servers. Right now, without enough different skins, identifying own squad is way too difficult, but nametags are not the answer crosshair = unpreferable but tolerable option -
How To Snipe The Airfields ~ 3 Man Team
Squirreli replied to michaeltheney@gmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've always been the spotter (not so much into sniping myself), so my mildot practice is a bit off. Good points, I'll have to learn that skill properly at some point. I've relied on my sniper getting that shot right once I've called the target in ;) -
How To Snipe The Airfields ~ 3 Man Team

A sniper assisted by a spotter? You sir have hit on something new and exiting here. Also other guys in the squad? Good for you! I would recommend renaming the so-called "Range Finder" to Spotter. Upon picking a position, the team should write down ranges to some likely spots (on paper, you know) for quick response. This is known as a range card. The spotter should then (and during movement) use their L85A2 AWS's thermal scope to quickly and easily observe any heat signatures from around them. That gun is really the sniper teams best friend. It's not effective at ranges 20-50m and 400m+. Closer -> run, strafe and fire at automatic. Longer -> Use a sniper rifle. Remember to relocate after engaging if/when necessary. The spotter may want to carry a DMR in his backpack for engaging larger squads (as a single sniper rifle is not always enough). As for looting: Yeah, keep overwatch. The overwatch team needs 2 guys, and the rest of your group can do other stuff like looting, assaulting, rear guard, scoping/binoccing other directions etc. Pretty simple really. What you need is a crew willing to play carefully and smartly. Sometimes boring, but hey, that is the price of not wanting to spawn back to the bean coast all the time ;) PS. Failing to have a rare thermal scope, the spotter uses range finder and preferably a quick fire rate weapon with a scope attached. This allows for assisting sniper right away. The range card negates most (but not all) need for a range finder once the position has been prepared.
