How much authenticity is too much?

haha, I'm hoping this isn't a solution for the female characters also. -

What concerns me, is that it's going to get to the point where our characters are a moving collection of injuries, infection, hunger , performance/damage modifier..etc etc. To the point where they are useless and a drain of time. At this point re-spawning with a new character will hold more appeal than continuing with the knackered existing one.. Where's the fun in that. -
Can anyone confirm whether or not a ruined t-shirt can be torn into usable rags?
-
So after a couple weeks of not being able to play, I finally log back in to find my characters gear virtually all in a state of ruin? Oh well, it's in alpha these things happen. However what troubles me more, is how, a characters rags can be in a state of ruin? What damage must one inflict in order to render stored rags ruined beyond use?

Custom DayZ Map?
Dempsey (DayZ) replied to zach.orman@hotmail.com's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I'd love to know this also! -
Isn’t that what the burning fuel/oil drums in Cherno do? I think if illumination is what is required, adding more of the burning fuel drums would make greater sense than street lights.. It’s far more authentic to the post apocalyptic scenario. In my opinion It’s not a case of realism, just a case of complimenting the game's setting.

I well thought out and structured post! I agree after a while survival becomes a lot less changeling and out of boredom pvp becomes a lot more appealing. However after months of playing Dayz, the possibility of PVP (being shot) is the only aspect of the game that has remained scary, keeping me on the edge of my seat... I like the suggestion of events.. However they would need to be fun, challenging and other reward, otherwise people will avoid logging in during them.

Please can someone whelp me with his..I'm trying to improve my fs, and a lot of examples suggest setting the video memory to default.. however.. Under the in-game video options, I have no option next to video memory saying 'default', I can only chose from low, medium or high :/ is this the same for anyone else? if so Is there a way around it? -

Will 'Rockets' proposal resolve the disconnect exploits?
Dempsey (DayZ) replied to Dempsey (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I agree that is a risk, It's a hard one. Do you think it's worth the risk? Personally I wouldn’t mind the risk, as I spend most of my time running and in non-combat scenarios. However it would be annoying to die as a result of a crash. Maybe when the game is more stable it could be implemented? -

Good point. Yea I don't think there is a way to prevent that. Unless the players character remains on the server for say 20-30secs after disconnect. -
Will 'Rockets' proposal resolve the disconnect exploits?
Dempsey (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
After watching a recent video interview of Rocket, a question is raised regarding disconnect exploits. At 14:31 he discusses a system the dev team are working on, which tracks accounts, registering log-in/out events. If the log-in/outs occur to regularly a ‘cooldown’ timer will be applied on respawning back-in. If the user continues to login/out regularly over a long period of time they will face punishment (character killed). Personally I don't think penalizing players with a respawn cool-down timer will resolve this; reason, because by then they are out of danger! and/or have already committed the exploit that benefits them! Maybe a countdown timer (as discussed regularly on here) on 'logging out'/'disconnecting' is the closest solution to prevent the disconnect exploits. Possibly even alongside 'Rockets' proposal. But that's just my opinion. What are your opinions on this? Will Rockets proposal help resolve the disconnect exploits?
