Gore/blood in standalone DayZ + ears ringing after heavy gunfire
KetchupOnTheDog posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
In a zombie apocalypse, i feel blood/gore is an important part of immersion. You can cut zombies heads off with a long blade, or smash their skull in half with a hammer. (think walking dead) Cut their legs off so you can mess around with them. (yes i am a sick bastard) Add blood splatters from shooting or meleeing zombies/survivors that would remain on walls and anyone who comes in contact with the blood for a period of time. For me, this would make killing zombies hell of alot of fun, and add some new dynamics to the game. And also: Add temporary deafness or ringing of the ears after firing heavy weaponry, such as an LMG or sniper rifle. Nothing too long or permanent, just about 5-10 seconds of ringing after heavy fire. This adds to the intensity of shooting a huge weapon. (I believe this is already in a few arma 2 mods) -
i recently got a new monitor and it seems like 1980x1080 is too stretched out to the left and right. For example, when aiming in a scope it makes like a sideways oval shape instead of a circle. I've tried every other resolution. arma 2 is the only game i have a problem with this. I've tried every aspect ratio. Any tips? It's a 23 inch monitor. 3d resolution is the same. EDIT: i fixed it, problem was you have to restart the game to get the UI in place.

Get over it. We're all waiting for an update. Why don't you go outside and take a break. The more you rage and rant about it here, the longer it's going to seem.

I don't know about a stamina system in a game as big as this, but I'd like to see the amount of weight you are wearing (clothing, backpack, weapons) affect your movement speed and hunger depletion. Imagine a situation where you need that extra bit of speed to survive, so you drop your backpack to run a bit faster. I also believe run speed should be slowed in general, and sprinting be a bit more limited. -
Well, i just want to hear something. Release is suppose to be within 2 weeks, and if something isn't working, we should know by now.

what the hell are you doing, rocket?

For the standalone; please make the zombies a challenge

As most of you already know, zombies aren't a problem in the dayz mod. They are ridiculously easy to line of sight, they walk through buildings, their hits are very weak, and they cannot catch up to you if you are moving. If any of you have seen 28 days later, you'll know where i am heading with what I want to see from the zombies in the standalone. Zombies should be faster than you. Zombies should have quadruple the amount of energy as us. The speed of the zombie would of course depend on the body type of the zombie and the condition of its legs, arms, etc. A perfectly healthy group of zombies 10+ should move together as a horde and easily be able to catch a player and kill them in a matter of seconds. Imagine how much more cautious you would be if you saw a group of zombies. They should be able to run in buildings. One bite could mean the end of you if you don't find some antibiotics. One zombie aggro should aggro other zombies in proximity, and gun shots should aggro a lot further, or at least cause zombies to investigate the area. There should be different stages of zombie alertness. Stage 1; zombies think they hear, see, or smell something. Stage 2; zombies are on alert and you only have a few seconds to break line of sight before they see you. Stage 3; zombies are aware of your presence and attack you. You could cover yourself with zombie blood to make yourself less detectable through smell by zombies, but you are more prone to diseases. Ghillie suits could make you less detectable by sight in wooded areas. I also read somewhere on reddit that zombies should be able to smell blood, so you could throw a blood bag to attract zombies to an area. Of course to balance this difficulty change, zombies won't be glitchy. Right now zombies use flanking maneuvers and serpentine you, they should normally run at you in a straight line. They should not run nor hit/bite you through walls. Another form of balance would be to allow players to equip a melee weapon as a secondary, allowing you to switch to melee when dealing with zombies in close combat without alerting a horde with gunshots. Zombie hordes should be more common in towns and cities, but still wander through the woods. Zombies should be persistent in the world or spawn a lot further away from players. No more knowing someones around because there are zombie spawns. Spawns should be a lot more random. You shouldn't run to a building knowing there's going to be zombies around. Zombies should be dismemberable. Assuming there's a revamp of the melee system, you should be able to swing an axe at a zombie's head and chop it off, swing it at its leg and immobilize it, or take out its arm and it cannot do as much damage. Which brings me to my final suggestion, MORE BLOOD! Every zombie game needs more blood :D.- 43 replies

"i think this is yet another "quote" out of context. i think the statement you are refering to was about HUD and a stamina bar was used as an example. if that's not true you might want to state your source. otherwise i'm not convinced that rocket said that." 52. Q: The ability to sprint for unlimited distances seems to completely counter the design of a giant map. Do you ever plan to put limitations on player sprint? [Zipper -82ndAB-] A: There should be consequences to this but mobility is one aspect we probably need to compromise authenticity/realism in order to make the game actually playable at all. We could tie this in with the revised medical system (health + energy etc...) so that there is impact on those who run everywhere. Current ingame mechanics limit sprinting anyway. http://dayzmod.com/f...-rocket-thread/ -

I agree, food and water should also be a bit more scarce, along with weapons and ammo. Although i believe basic civilian melee weapons should be a bit more common along with shotguns and handguns. -

Cries and shouts from injury/death
KetchupOnTheDog replied to 1clash1's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I was thinking this earlier. When people get shot, they shout. Imagine just shooting at someone hiding behind a bush and just hearing their cries as you hit them. -
Your playing this game wrong.. I wish there was more penalty for death. This is why i think progression as a character with realistic skills could go a long way in keeping someone in touch with their in game character and not just their loot..

KetchupOnTheDog replied to KetchupOnTheDog's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I agree, but dean said he doesn't want stamina in and that it is the only acception to the authenticity of the game. There should be some form of movement penalty for sprinting too long.. even if it's just a movement speed reduction until you catch your breath. -

Well i stand corrected -
Day Z should be a constant battle for the resources you need, not a constant battle for something to do.
KetchupOnTheDog replied to Silent331's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I keep thinking of the movie the road where theres no food and no one is friendly but your friends. Maybe theres no zombies in that movie but i still think food should be rare due to zombies and other survivors hogging all of it. It just makes sense really, and would actually be more fun killing someone to sustain yourself rather than killing someone just for that m4 he has or even simply just for your own enjoyment..
