Did this happen to anyone else in the past 5 minutes? Everyone on the server was kicked for this restriction sequentially. I had just obtained my very first helicopter... couldn't land it time to save it before it was my turn to be kicked. What the hell... /venting

BattlEye Script Restriction 97?
Fireworks replied to Fireworks's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Pretty sure the guy I stole the helicopter got pissed. Now he is the only one on the server, everyone else has been kicked for some random BattlEye restriction and cannot reconnect. The one guy is connected and spawned in still. Can this be investigated somehow by DayZ staff? Where would I go to do that? UK 197 - Player in question: Unlucker -
Correction: Apparently you can delete your beta folder and then choose the patch version you want. To elaborate: delete the folder located here "\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\Expansion\beta" and then use the link I posted above to run the patch you want.
-
http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php However, I'm pretty sure you can't downgrade once you patch... without reinstalling that is.
-
Incorrect. DayZ Staff can respawn people with the player ID. Regardless, you'd probably have more luck just leaving your game open and having yourself starve.

I couldn't even Alt+F4; I can't believe that security is so low that a system command can be intercepted so easily. EDIT: Haha, I didn't even notice you mistyped it, it is definitely 1942.

Hackers still on there. Just got teleported to a location and sniped. Be warned!

Okay, I'm partially lying with the thread title. But before you go into quick reply and bash the hell out of me, at least hear me out. I know everyone is tired of seeing threads related to hackers, but I believe you may find some of my points interesting. Posting after yet another "Thunderdome" hack when I had been previously suited up with top-end gear in an intense standoff at our camp. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4d010W9ljU Note: My voice was not recorded in the video here, but it basically went something like: Okay I'm looking at the base... no movement... SH** FU**... Thunderdome... Alt+F4 just killed me, dafuq? Surprisingly enough, even trying to Alt+F4 killed me this time. Amazing that even a system command like that can be intercepted... Below are some common quotes I see related to hacking, and my thoughts about them. 1. "Well... it's just because BattlEye is terrible!" Okay... I fail to see how this suddenly makes it no one's fault that hacking is rampant. If something is terrible at preventing hackers, DON'T USE IT. Either code your own external solution, or figure out another way to make it happen. It's obvious the people at BattlEye don't care about what's happening and have yet to prove they do. 2. "Okay... well... why fix it when the standalone is coming out? Just wait for that..." I'm actually okay with this, and am going to do just that. However, I fear that many others will do the same and the mod as we know it will die (until the standalone that is). I suppose this is okay, however it may have an impact on how many trust that the problem will be fixed in the standalone. I really just want anything from Rocket, anything at all about how this is currently being handled and how it will be handled in the standalone (if I'm wrong and he has said something, please correct me!). Leaving the entire community guessing is just not fair to us. I like Rocket; he is very transparent about everything except this. I don't even care if he announces that he won't be doing anything about hacking until the standalone. In fact, I'd perfectly understand that. But don't leave an entire community wondering what's going on! 3. "I'd rather have the unplayable issues fixed like the massive graphic artifacts." I'd rather have 1000 bugs than have to deal with hackers. I don't care if I have to be careful not to overload my backpack and delete rare items instantly. I don't care if I have to toggle my video memory back and forth to fix massive artifacts. The one thing I cannot handle is when I spend hours collecting loot, or having an intense battle against another group of players, and some douche hits a button and sinks the entire server. 4. "Stop complaining, I'm tired about seeing so many of these posts." I took this position a few days ago. However, I have now decided that it may in fact be better that the forums are flooded so much, as this definitely sheds light on a critical issue. As rate of hackers go up, the rate of posts about them go up, and thus the rate of attention given to it should go up as well. So until then, I don't really care anymore that 50% of the forums is related to hacking now until something is done (or said). 5. "Just play on low-populated servers. There aren't hackers there." I agree that most of the time the hackers target the 30-50 player servers. However, I have been affected by hacking on lower populated servers as well. Not to mention, the populated servers are where the action is at anyway. Once you realize that the end-game in DayZ is the PvP, the goal is to find and kill others, not hide on low-populated servers hoarding loot. 6. "Do you really support hackers?" Okay, I have to be careful about how I express my views on this one. First of all, I do not support hacking in any way, shape, or form. I am not telling anyone to go download hacks, etc. I simply want to bring up a question/perspective for you all to debate, as I want feedback as to what you think about it. The hacking at this point is so bad, that the game is almost unplayable. The almost part meaning that you can still have some fun with a friend or two on a very low populated server playing the earlier gameplay stages of the game (e.g. basic loot collection/survival). For the veterans, however, the game is basically ruined. So it would almost be interesting to encourage hackers at this point. I'd rather have a highly concentrated number of hackers in one week, forcing the issue to be addressed, then have hacking slowly kill the game over a few months. This is basically happening anyway... I bet many of the victims of hacking turn to it themselves out of rage or disappointment of losing items. Let's not start a flame war about this, or go around quoting me saying I'm supporting hacking. I am definitely not. It's just an interesting perspective to chew over. 7. "Well... is it really Rocket's fault?" The hacking itself is definitely not. First of all, there is no way he could have predicted that this mod would have taken off so fast like this. There was just no reason to look into more hack-prevention techniques back when the mod was less popular. And honestly I do feel bad for Rocket a bit. He faces some difficult questions and dealing with all of this commotion about hacking must be stressful, to say the least. What is partially his fault, however, is letting the community know what the deal is. If I could say one thing to Rocket it would be this: I can totally understand putting most of your effort into the standalone at this point. I respect you very highly as a developer and am glad that you are the man behind this amazing project. However, please address your community about this! Let us know you understand, what your plans are, and what we can expect. I'm going to summarize my main points below: 1. Hacking is increasing at a seemingly exponential rate, and at this point is ridiculously out of control. 2. The community has a right to vent about it on the forums until we are given something about what is being done. 3. I do not support hackers, but do not care if it becomes rampant, as it will force the issue to be addressed. 4. I will be taking a huge step back from the game until the standalone. Please feel free to leave your feedback on my views, as I am interested to hear the voices of other DayZ players and veterans. Let's keep this as much of an intelligent discussion as possible, and not turn this into another flame thread in which people attack each other. Thanks for taking the time to read!

I get a stable 30 when recording with fraps (and that's just because I cap it at 30). You probably have something configured weirdly in your graphics/fraps settings.

I appreciate the points you bring up, but you could probably do without the rude comments. Regardless, I don't think the fact that there are hackers in every game invalidates attempts to prevent it. Of course hacking is rampant in many games, but some prevention is executed better than others and the easier it is for someone to hack, the more likely it will occur. If all options have really been considered for prevention (including using something besides BattlEye), then I suppose we'll have to live with it until the standalone, but I just want to make sure that all options are being considered at this point. Justifying that it's okay for hackers to be everywhere because companies never do enough isn't really an excuse either. That's why the PC gaming industry is struggling so much right now. Most of the time, however, it's just because the company does not care. For example, Call of Duty can never be as successful as on the Xbox because both companies couldn't care less about policing their ported console games on the PC. Anti-cheat will always be a step behind hacking, but if enough effort is put into the prevention, then it's just one really small step behind, and hacking would never become so rampant. That is what separates game developers who care about hacking prevention, and those do not. And again, not saying that something more should be done to try and prevent it with the mod. If it really is impossible to prevent in it's current state, then that's fine, I'll trust that. But I just want to make sure all options are looked at, and that the community is aware of what's going on. I wish Rocket took donations, because if that would help in anti-hacking in any way, I'd donate in a heartbeat. -

If you want me to change the title, please let me know. My goal isn't to cause a problem, just have a more organized discussion about it. I can totally understand concentrating on the standalone. It's just that the community is in confused, concerned, and ultimately just in the dark about this. If it's true that nothing can be done at all, that's fine, but it's difficult to sit by wondering what is going on, or attempting to dig up things that Rocket has said about the issue in certain interviews and what not to try to see what his own views are. -

Fireworks replied to Fireworks's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
And why can't they? If they have plans to prevent hacking, posting that prevention is happening will have two effects: scare any hackers into stopping and showing the community that something is being done. It's not like if they post their plans that they would become ineffective. I'm not saying Rocket should reveal his techniques, but completely ignoring the issue altogether just doesn't feel right. -

All I want is an official announcement on the subject. Something more than just saying it's in the hands of BattlEye. That just doesn't seem good enough for me. -
This is blasphemous! I have found so many blood bags, but they are all Type B! What am I supposed to do... I'm O- and the risk is too high to transfuse with Type B. Give us Type O- blood bags! ;) On a serious note, having blood types in the game might be kind of interesting. For example, you could be assigned (or have to figure out) your blood type when you spawn and have to find the appropriate blood type. Perhaps if you take the wrong blood type, you could get an infection or possibly die. Might be an interesting mechanic. Thoughts?

Critical change: Make Blood Bags Type O-!
Fireworks replied to Fireworks's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Right, but coming close to realism is what makes it cool. I agree it isn't necessary, but I think the game could use many more dynamics than currently implemented. I'm not 100% sure this blood type idea would be good or not, just might make it a bit more interesting to get blood as opposed to getting a full refill with a blood transfusion so easily. -
So I was on a server a bit ago and things were going pretty well. A friend found a bike up the road from where I was, and I went to check an ATV spawn in a popular-ish area and it was surprisingly there. So we got it repaired and started heading away from the shore. Soon after departing, we suddenly heard people saying "We see you..." so we took off. They started firing from wherever they were like mad. My friend on his bike was hauling ass out of there when he got teleported to a random location. He instantly logged off thinking he was about to be hack-killed. However, shortly after as my other friend and I on the ATV were still driving away, we heard a voice that kept following us. When we stopped on a hill, a guy appeared telling us that our other friend should log back on so that he could teleport him back to us and also give the bike back. So I hesitantly told my friend to log back in, trusting the random hacker guy, and he pulled through. He teleported my buddy back to us and he told us that "[he] took care of the hackers." He even spawned us another ATV and then let us be on on way. I suppose that the people firing at us must have been hacking or something, and that the hero hacker intervened? Either way, what do you guys think of what happened? I'm not going to say the name of the server to protect the guy's privacy that helped us out... I wonder if he was a server admin. Who knows? TL;DR Do good hackers exist? Or do server admins hack to police their servers?

Maybe there could be blood test kits that you can get to figure out your blood type :o -
Lost all my gear, Did the server or Battleeye screwed me over?
Fireworks replied to ChipRed's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
There are bugs and inventory glitches are common. You won't get your stuff back, so you might as well get used to this sort of thing happening. I've lost some of the rarest weapons/items in the game multiple times due to bugs; it's just the way it is. The mod is still early in development, and the players cannot really complain because you knew it was alpha when you installed it. -
I apologize if a similar idea has already been posted. I searched a bit, but could not find this exact suggestion yet and wanted to share it as I think it would be an amazing addition to the game. First of all, this is not a small change, and thus would likely be something for the upcoming standalone as opposed to the current modded version. The suggestion: Allow groups of friends to "claim" small shelters/houses/etc. as a place to store items (to an extent) and fortify. The details: There are a few different options for where these shelters can be claimed. One option is to have designated areas on the map (not necessarily this map that is currently used) to claim rundown buildings. Another option is to introduce the aspect of construction and allow construction to take place in various areas. Either way, the act of claiming or building a house/shelter would be a time-intensive process and require a lot of materials to build/maintain/fortify. What this allows: Satisfaction of "owning" territory Centralized place for friends to meet/converse Potential for "towns" or various groups of friends banding together (like clans) New aspect of building fortification (e.g. repairing walls to prevent zombie break-ins) New aspect of raiding on other's houses for the goods stored there Increases game longevity by a lot without sacrificing the survival aspect of the game (see "Why this does not ruin the game" below) Balancing: A couple of the things above would obviously need to be balanced and configured in a such a way that it does not ruin the current gameplay model. Below are just a few things that I think would make the suggestion viable. Only allow a very limited storage of items (or perhaps require a large amount of materials to build more storage units, but still overall be very limited) Houses should not be a respawn point If a house is properly fortified, it should not be able to be raided instantly. Instead, the raiding player should have to use tools to break-in, and it would take longer the more fortified the house is (though nothing is 100% raid-proof). Zombies should also be able to enter the house, potentially making their own entry if needed, though if properly fortified it would be difficult If a house is not maintained, it will fall into ruin. The area then becomes reclaimable. Why this does not ruin the game: I am assuming that some people will claim that something like this does not fit with the theme of the game (according to some posts I have read about similar suggestions). To those people, you should keep in mind that currently the game has no longevity. Yes, it is a very fun mod for Arma, but if this game is to ever become more than what it is, it needs more longevity and more aspects to it. In addition to that critical fact, this housing aspect does not even contradict the realism of zombie survival. It would make sense to have a way for people to "live" somewhere and fortify the location (at least until overrun with zombies!). Overall, the game has to advance far beyond it's current state if it is to ever be a standalone game. This suggestion is fairly drastic, but there will need to be plenty of drastic changes on the path to success for DayZ! I will post/add/modify what I have written here as I or you develop the suggestion further. Happy debating.

I just realized that the dev has plans for base-building in the standalone, so perhaps this post is calling for something that is already planned. I suppose we'll see? Nevertheless, it would still be nice to come up with some suggestions for how exactly the "base-building" is going to implemented: “In order for people to not feel ripped off we need to have a load of new content; so, things like base-building, tidying and cleaning up animations and add ragdoll physics as the like.” Source: http://www.vg247.com/2012/07/24/dayz-could-be-standalone-before-christmas-base-building-and-more-on-cards/ -

I agree it would not work in the current setup. It's something that would have to wait for the standalone. I have not read much about how the standalone will work in terms of the servers, but it likely will be much different/better than how it is now.
