RE: Rocket announcement of new feature at PAX

This is the BEST idea ever suggested on this forum! I really hope no one steals this!! -
Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.
timmoboy replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I have no idea if this has been suggested yet but I believe this could be a good way to tackle the non HUD problems! Example. The first stage when you're starting to feel hungry/thirsty/sick/whatever your in game character will think like this: "I'm starting to feel a bit hungry", and in one hour or something like that you will have heard that, let's say, 2 times. Next stage would be: "I'm really hungry, I have to get some food." And again, maybe play that audio sequence 2 times on 45 min or whatever. Last stage: "If I don't eat something very soon I won't make it." Maybe play that 3 times over 30 minutes. Just make sure it's not too often to irritate the player. And what I mean with that the character thinking it, is that he really do think this. Not speaking out loud or something. Who the fuck would run around alone speaking to himself that he's hungry? I think this would be a pretty simple mechanic to implement in the standalone and would not be irritating or anything, if done right, Just record some phrases and play them so the only one hearing them is the player! Think about it Rocket! ;) -
If you're gonna force 10.000 meters view distance on your server I don't think many would have a computer to handle that. 10.000 m is max fyi if you did not know.

Sarcasm.

Since DayZ is based on the Take On Helicopters engine.. This map might be possible?
timmoboy replied to mio.rogvall@gmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It would take a huge amount of people and time to make that happen... If it's even possible. -
Extremely well made! Unlimited beans for you guys! :)

DayZ standalone... Wait for it, or buy now?

I'm very positive we will be able to play the Alpha of the standalone this fall/winter. -

The DayZ standalone will probably come out before Christmas. Not in 1/1½ years. -
I knew it! No CE3 for DayZ :D

Rocket: Anything you need to tell us?

Standalone for sure! -
Imagine if DayZ had the ability to...

They crawl because they have broken legs or because they are weak from not eating for long. It would be too messed up having zombies running around thinking like humans, applying tactics etc. -
Now 1 Million!!!!! + Unique Players!!!

Congratulations DayZ dev team! Now would be a perfect time to officially announce the standalone. ;) -

Bad idea. How the hell would a zombie be able to know what stealth is? The only thing they care about is food, not crawling in the woods avoiding snipers. -
I went through the whole thread, didn't see anyone mentioning how large that terrain was. And I think the performance of the map was pretty bad.
-
so its been 5 months and almost 1 million users, rocket still havent decided on what his stand alone engine will be......
timmoboy replied to BaitedHook's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Rocket stated in one of the last interviews that an announcement will soon be made about the future. And it will probably be the RV engine. -
From the latest interview he said that he would want to have the stand alone out somewhere around September/October. Obviously he can't know for sure. I also believe he said that they would announce something pretty soon!

Why Don't the Zombies Just Run Straight?
timmoboy replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's because of the AI path finding in Arma 2. The speed I believe is just to compensate that they have to stop to melee atack. Probably something he can't fix before going stand alone. -
Well if he's gonna make a standalone using the RV engine, I am positive he's gonna use the updated one for Arma 3. Smart thinking there.
-
Yeah, RV4 modified for DayZ will be perfect I believe. It's pretty funny hearing all these statements about how easy it would be for Rocket to move to another engine because they have played with the flowgraph editor in CE3.... It's probably possible, but it would take too much resources and time for it to be worth it. And I'm pretty sure Rocket already have made up his mind about what engine he want to use.
-
Well I could say the same about everyone thats bashing the RV engine. You guys probably haven't even played Arma at all. But sure, if you make a 262Km map full of trees, grass, buldings, roads etc then place 500 zombie AI with 100 real players. If you can do that, then I will agree with you, until then, all of you are just full of shit!
-
Yeah, that's gonna happen..... Rocket, please please please would you be so kind and share your views about these different engines? :) I'm really interested in what would be the best option for DayZ!
-
Never seen something like this before........ video
timmoboy replied to crazyairborne's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Load up regular Arma 2 and go into the Editor. Then place some planes, vehicles etc and learn to drive/fly ;) -
Wooow, mountains in CryEngine!?!? Holy shiiiiiit..... Or a desert :o That's definitely something RV can't do... Hey Rocket, did you hear? You should port it to CE3 right naows!!!! :)
-
Well, possible if you rewrite those engines maybe, but then you would still get a engine more like RV then the others ^^
-
Arma 2 before Dayz took over?
timmoboy replied to skillet (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well this is not a game, it's an alpha test of a game. Pretty big difference between alpha and retail...
