"People could farm on PvE servers and then use that stuff on PvP servers!" >>Implying I can't already do that in an empty server or a private server. "But PvE servers would be too easy!" Ok, good point, Rocket needs to make the zombie aspect of the game more difficult. Way more difficult. Also to all the PvP'ers: What's the point? Don't you get bored spending hours collecting stuff, then killing each other over it? Why do that when you can play any other FPS that gives you guns upon respawn... The end-game is just a more time consuming version of a deathmatch fps. Why do people refuse to see that as flawed design? The game is supposed to be a combination of PvE and PvP, but currently the zombies pose no threat and PvP is rampant, to the point of making me ask "why waste time playing this when I could play a better PvP game?" @Worran Luckily it seems the PvP'ers avoid the wilderness, mostly just survivors I've encountered.

I've seen a ton of newbs running around aggro'ing stuff up. If you were one of them, I'm sorry but I had no weapon and didn't want to get involved with that mess you made.

Your heartbeat gets louder and louder the more people you kill. Not that it matters anyway, since you will kill or be killed before anyone gets close enough to hear it.

Barns have civilian guns. Cities have military grade guns. Guns are really only useful in PvP anyways unless you have a good gun. The Axe is the god mode zombie killing weapon.

Initial reactions to the first 20+ hours or so playing Day-Z.

If you can get a hatchet you can prone around and take out zombies 1 by 1, and pray that they have food or drink (which is fairly rare that they do). Maybe it's just me but zombies rarely ever hit me while I'm prone. No other advice, my friend and I are having the same issue finding water. Also, I wonder why the game doesn't give you at least SOMETHING to defend yourself, even a 4-hit kill melee weapon is better than nothing. -
A simple answer to the bandit issue once and for all.

Skins would be kind of pointless then because you would never be able to tell who to trust. -

I wouldn't shoot unarmed people either, but I left that in there because most people would... -
I'm perfectly fine with spawning away from my friends and having to search for them. But please just make a way for us to join the same server easily.

Make a friends/clan system where we don't have to spend hours trying to join the same server. Then I will accept this answer. Even a direct connect IP option would be nice. Or the ability to actually recognize people around you. I ask for nothing more than that. -
It's the airfield. Everyone kills everyone there. Also I consider it morally neutral. Why isn't that an option?

You - Him Unarmed - Unarmed: Just go your separate ways, don't trust strangers. Armed - Unarmed: Spare him or kill him. Unarmed - Armed: Hide, don't alert him by saying "friendly". No one is friendly but newbs. Armed - Armed: Kill the guy or hide. Any other answer is wrong. -
Flashlight: Can't see shit while running. Flares: COME EAT ME! COME KILL ME! Chemlights: Meh. Playing at night sucks.
-
Barns/Deerstands for guns/weapons. Small buildings in small towns for food/flares/useless shit. The cities and industrial areas are for when you're more experienced. Also you have to solid-snake your way around towns or else you'll attract tons of zombies.

Controversial Topic: BANDITRY IS DEAD.

And likewise I'll stop disconnecting when people stop blasting me in the face. It's a vicious cycle. I usually don't have anything that valuable on me, if you want my painkillers you can just ask kindly and I'll hand them over. No need to waste ammo on me. If I needed the food I would've ate it already. And yeah, there needs to be a term for people that kill on sight and don't even take anything, because that's not what a bandit is. -

So how does one play at night, other than joining 200ms servers?

You know that thought ran right through my head the instant it happened. -

After a few days of playing: Afk in wild. Afk in wild. Afk in wild. Guy at Barn who saved my ass. Guy at Barn minding his own business. Guy at Barn minding his own business. Guy at Elektro who killed me with Hatchet. Guy at Elektro who chopped my Legs with Hatchet, stood there and mocked me, then ran. Bandit at Elektro. Bandit at Elektro. -
Day Z Dcing homos and Cod noob bandit solutions
Ramirez77 replied to Nhordski's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Fix glitchy zombies and hardcore CoD kiddies before you focus on disconnect abuse. Until then I'll just keep mashing the abort button. (Seriously, if you want my god damn painkillers so bad you can just ask me for them, I don't want them. No need to be gun-crazy.) I think the PTSD syndrom idea is interesting, but it still punishes bandits that play the game legitimately. Undecided. -
Why do you people do these things?
Ramirez77 replied to Inception.'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
When I went into elektro I had no intention of killing anyone for their gear. I'm not desperate for gear and I'm not a jackass either, I would've left them alone. These arguments of self defense are all based on assumptions. -
Humanity is gained in tiny amounts by killing zombies. Humanity is gained in significant amounts by healing. Humanity is lost through murdering people. People criticize this idea (Unless he was talking to someone else or misread the post) because it "forces people to play a certain way", so instead of punishing either side, just reward both. Don't have a lot of ideas for perks, here's just a few off the top of my head. Bonuses for Negative Humanity (Focused on PvP/Offense): More Silent Movement Faster Speed Bonuses for Positive Humanity (Focused on PvE/Defense: Faster Heal Time/Slower Bleeding More Health I like the colored Nametags idea, but it might make it to easy to spot and kill bandits.

Newb here. "Bandits are an essential part of the game." I agree. However, there's a difference between a "bandit" and an "asshole". Bandit: I see someone running. They appear to have <Insert item that I need>, I better kill them and loot their corpse. Asshole: I see someone running. I'm gonna kill them just for the Lulz and not even bother to loot their corpse, I'll just leave it laying out in the field there. Man, I'm such a badass, sniping newbs and all. Too afraid to kill experienced players at the airfield though. "I shoot people in self defense" If I'm limping with 2000 blood and a double barrel shotgun, and you're on a rooftop miles away with a sniper rifle, you are NOT shooting in self defense. If someone has a gun, but isn't aware of your position, is far away, and isn't heading towards you, they pose absolutely no threat to you (I guess unless they are aggro'ing like crazy, but that's not too common). "Stay out of Cherno or Elektro" I can somewhat agree, but there aren't a lot of alternatives to this, and the alternatives that do exist aren't much better.
