Concerning DayZ + ArmA II I'm a total noob. I enjoy it though... so whatever :)

Bio grad student, trying to make a living with that little research assistant pay I get.

    DayZ on Easy Mode

I don't see much hacks in having good gear to be honest... Sure some players might have duped it/scriped it in but assuming that everyone who does have this kind of gear has hacked is kind of... you know... All it takes is a couple crash sites and/or buddies working together + exchanging gear and there you go.

    How doe vehicle spawns work

    very likely :)
  3. I don't suppose there's any way to look up on which server I have been in order to report this properly? I was using the built in server browser from arma to join and I don't see any history in there :( Guess I should either write down which server I'm joining or start using DayZ commander or something... edit: I THINK it might have been FR 169 but I can't be sure... I remember it being daylight, Veteran difficulty and a 3 digit number. Also, I can't join the server (gets stuck on 'wait for host'). There were 20+ players when I tried, then the server went unresponsive and is now back up but practically empty. Still can't join, though. I guess I can't find out for sure on which one I was when it happened. I'll probably use DayZ commander from now on so I'll be able to know on which server I was, should something like this ever happen again.
  4. Hey everyone So I don't have a video recording and english isn't my first language so bear with me while i try to describe... I log into a server (FR something... maybe I should try to remember it next time... I'll try to find it again) and make my way to Elektro. I approach from the north and I hear DMR/M14 shots fired from the hill directly north of the powerstation/firestation. I try to sneak up as best as I can to try to get a hold of that sniper camping there. I'm close but haven't really pinpointed him exactly. I take out my binoculars to look at the other hill west of the power plant, since someone is firing what sounded like an AS50 from over there as well. All of a sudden, I see 3 players pop up DIRECTLY in front of me. I panicked, hear gunshots, bullets zipping past all around me and I hear screaming (no idea if it was ingame sound from one of the chars being shot or whatever). All while still being prone and looking through my binoculars... I wasn't hit... It just seemed weird that I wasn't shot while there were TONS of players around me and lots of shooting. Also, pine trees all around me all of a sudden... not that many of them on the N Elektro hill. I figured this was fishy (while physically shaking IRL, of course...) and Alt+F4'd out. I then proceeded to look for a low population server to log back in and see where the fuck I am... Turns out I am now a couple hundred meters north of Cherno in the woods. My char is ok and I still have all my stuff but BOY did I get scared... O.o I guess being prone and wearing a ghillie saved my life. But one question... From what I've read so far, being teleported is usually followed by being insta-killed or am I wrong there? Or do the hackers usually wait there with some big ass machine gun and just shoot everybody?

Team Option to help with trust

I like the idea of some sort of team function, especially for sharing map markers with only selected individuals, or, should radios be implemented any time soon, a private ingame voice chat channel. What I strongly disagree with, however, is Friendly Fire off... If you choose to throw a grenade and it bounces back, or you just go unaimed + crazy with that full auto AK/M249/whatever, you (or your buddies) should pay the price imho.

[3:45 Video] Why I never go to big cities

"This is sacred land" Made my day, have some beans :)

    Hold Melee and Ranged Weapon

Unfortunately, you can't. You'll either have to drop one OR get a big enough backpack to switch. Make sure you have 10 slots available in the backpack, otherwise your rifle will disappear. edit: aaaah, too late :)

    Free alternative to Fraps?

Hmmm, MSI afterburner works like a charm! Awesome! Thanks guys. BEANS -> you

    Free alternative to Fraps?

thanks, will try :) Have some beans.

    Free alternative to Fraps?

I prefer the light side :)
  11. Hey Fraps is awesome... however, I just wanted to check if anyone has experience with other (free) programs for recording ingame. Would be a pity to spend (quite a lot) of money on fraps if there's a free alternative somewhere doing the same thing... Thanks in advance
  12. hmmm after doing some testing I tend to agree now... Either this formula or the size of the target is wrong. + there is the uncertainty of resolution and/or aspect ratio. So I tried to be as 'scientific' as possible when testing this. I did it with screenshots, pixel counting in GIMP to get a +/- accurate mildot count (obviously this isn't very applicable in-game :) ) and a nonlinear regression in R. So i ended up at a person size of roughly 1.96m. Would you mind sharing your screen resolution? Mine is 1680x1050, 16:10. It would, of course, be AWESOME if yours is different :)
  13. you're welcome :) But keep in mind, I've made this using a formula and the height estimate from one of the two YT vids I've posted. I have no idea how accurate this actually is. I just downloaded a shooting range map to test it out. Will get back to this thread with results asap. EDIT: I assume, the bullet drop etc. is the same in DayZ as in the regular arma?
  14. I should have known better... DAMN YOU! I need some Painkillers now...
  15. For now, I've just created a plot using the equation given in the YT videos until I find time to dig through the other info. Here's the result, comments appreciated. @ Daddy'o: Does your range table look somewhat similar concerning the ranges + mildot counts? Range on y axis, mildot count on x axis. The dashed horizontal lines are the effective ranges for the rifles (according to google and a DayZ wiki I've found)
