As this is an Alpha, and the only current goal is to survive, there is no story or back story as to what has happened in Chernarus. I like to have a mindset for a games atmosphere, and think up my own story if I need to. So far, all we know is somehow the greater civilian population of Chernarus have become these "Zeds," we don't have the slightest clue why. Military roadblocks exist in many areas, and many soldiers lay dead, rather than turned, implying they may have come into the area from outside, after the fact. My version of the story: Due to the likeness to STALKER, I believe something along the lines of a Chernobyl disaster occurred. Whatever it was, it caused the greater civilian population and the local soldiers to turn into the Zeds. Other soldiers we're sent in to respond to the crisis, but we're overwhelmed and many killed. As a result, whoever ordered the troops in were forced to pull back out, and a quarantine was placed over the area. Survivors, and bandits, had been locals/what have you that we're spared in some way from the disaster. Due to the quarantine, they are banned from exiting the region, and any outside help is banned from entering to assist. That leaves you, in Chern, fighting and working amongst each other for what supplies are left. Whats your take on whats happened, until an official story is put out?

My 72 day old character (granted, I have not played every day or even every month) was finally done in tonight. This is my first post in months. I had been living quite well in and around the dam in the North East for quite some time. I set off up north, where people used to park they're spare vehicles when they we're done for the night. Finding nothing, I curved back down to the NW of the NW airfield. Here I got into a simple ARMA firefight with two other humans, using cover and concealment, just like the good old days. They had the better position. I was wishing I had artillery support. No dice. I dropped one, but they dropped me as well, bleeding. I took off into the wild when the shooting stopped for a moment, dropped my weapon and gear under a tree (no loot for sore winners,) hiked as far as I could before deciding to let myself bleed out. Back to the coast. Its different. My coveted flashlight is now standard, the Makarov I used to throw away is now sacred. I have yet to see many of the new features in play. I'm off again, see you all in the woods.

An eye for an eye makes the whole world go blind.

Break the cycle yourself. I hear these sob stories all day long, but have met and worked with a new player nearly every play session. -
As you said, stick to the servers with less than 20 people. These don't offer as much a target. Have patience while the DevTeam works out the hackers, bugs, ect. Remember your playing a free mod with a perfect concept - don't get upset when things do go sour. Don't get attached to your gear.

What is the point of being a alpha tester....
Bandit Hunter replied to Sakeoe (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah, your right. Rocket, close down DayZ until it hits final release, so all the thousands of players who are having fun, can't. -

In Wisconsin you can drive a tank for an hour at JUST 100 BUCKS! CRUSH A CAR FOR 800! Woo! -
If only I had artillery to mis-fire on my own position. Talk about problem solving.

Bloody blood is bloody annoying.
Bandit Hunter replied to IceFried's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think it represents shock. Find a hunting knife, matches and a hatchet. Hunting is a great way to restore blood. -

Best and Worst $30 I ever spent.
Bandit Hunter replied to CDBowman (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've logged 157 hours on ARMA II, according to Steam. Only 25 on DayZ. ARMA II is a fantastic game, whether in single player, multiplayer (without DayZ,) modding potential, and the editor. DayZ didn't even exist when ARMA was in its prime, its simply been standing out as an exceptional game. Give it a try while your waiting for DayZ to become more stable. -

Alpha!!!! -
Alpha stage of development. Hang tight and come back when its more stable, if you have to.
-
Sometimes the mod can take 5-10 minuets to load and fetch character data. If your hitting on 10 minuets, try another server. Are you using Six Updater or a manual install? Six updater seems to be far more stable, if you have not been using it. Good luck.

Ill be paying a visit to a server that is keeping the fort down. Good work

Sadly hacking seems to be pretty common by a take of the forums tonight. I just left a sever that was entirely wiped out in one moment myself. Have patience, hopefully things are being dealt with in good time.

Just a quick question about hackers.
Bandit Hunter replied to lBiscuit's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Also, in the future if you come across hacked items try to avoid taking them. I'm not sure the current policy, but several months ago it was simple; if you were caught with hacked gear, its a ban. Even if you did not spawn it in yourself. Good luck, stay patient, alpha alpha alpha, ect. May the force be with you. -
In DayZ, server admins can't abuse any powers - they don't have any. Hackers are rampant at the moment, just have patience and don't get to attached to your gear.

Better find a quote saying he won't ban. A few months ago, he absolutely would, and did, ban players who used hacked in items. I don't see why that would have changed. If its not in the tables, leave it be.
