NY7 / NY8 - Hacking known and permitted
Garful replied to Garful's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
BTW, I never mentioned you or Junkyard. I really like Junkyard and I have no problem with you. I like Pat too, though I don't know if he stills wear your guys tag. I don't think the duping should have been brought up. That's not what this thread is about. I did not do this to out anyone, certainly not Junkyard who is how I found out about all of it in the first place (whether he willingly let me know or not). DYMTRO was a hacker and was banned for it, but I shouldn't have even mentioned him. I'm not trying to point fingers and say "I think it was this guy, or I heard it was this guy." In fact, Tonic posted a sticky here saying they don't want to hear that crap. All I'm doing is providing the facts. It's happening on NY7. The admins know about it, and are okay with it. Players beware, and BIS should look into it. That's it. I'm done. (unless I fall for a troll, which happens to me often) -
NY7 / NY8 - Hacking known and permitted

I'm not here to argue, but I'll respond since I am the OP. I had intended for this to be informative, and for BIS decide if this was appropriate or not. I had made my decision. I want to play on a server where admins abhor this type of behavior, not allow and defend it. I see a lot of people trying to minimize what the known players are doing. Calling this an exploit only, or even a glitch. This is not a glitch, or an exploit. An exploit is a use of game mechanics in an unintended way to gain an advantage. It's disconnecting under fire so you don't die. It's ghosting. It's stealing items from others packs in debug forest. A hack is a manipulation of either the server side or client side files in order to gain an advantage. It doesn't matter if you are using a third party designed program to do it for you, or manipulating the files manually yourself. I'll state again; I am not reporting Faindizzle hacking. However, he knew about it. He allowed it. Everyone who reads this can decide for themselves whether they believe this is legitimate testing or not, and whether these players were killing anyone who came into Cherno, and stealing hidden vehicles because they could see across forests to just to help fix the game, I'm reporting this because: 1) NY7 is a server I played on, helped promote and donated to. It is a heavily promoted server, with known streamers playing on it. A lot of people are enticed to come check out this fun server. I'm warning people, as I feel the admins should have been, that apparently there is some testing of potential hacks going on in Cherno. 2) I'm letting BIS know of what I feel may be inappropriate behavior on a server they allowed to host DayZ. Hacks are really hurting DayZ. It's popularity and demand for the product went from just a small base of ArmA 2 players checking out Hall's mod, to having a larger player base than most live MMOs. I like the people I met on NY7. I liked some of the people currently hacking, and I certainly liked Faindizzle whom, until this, I thought could be a leader in this fledgling community. However, I don't stand for hacking, and I'll roll over on people in my own clan if I hear about it. So, sorry if hurt anyone's feelings with this thread, but, yeah... Fuck hackers. -

So..what the Hell just happened?
Garful replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It sounds like you're being put in debug forest. Try updating the Arma 2 beta (not just updating DayZ). Go here and download the latest beta patch (top of page): http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php/ Extract the executable in your Operation Arrowhead folder. Run it. Launch the game again. See if that helps and you stop getting tossed into debug forest. I might not be able to check here later, so I'll let you know now... If the beta patch doesn't work, most likely your saved location has become corrupted for your character. Right now, that will require a manual reset by the devs. Contact the devs in tech support. -
Fix to people disconnecting to avoid death: Your character remains in-game for 1 minute whenever you log out. Games can't cater to players with computer issues. Fix to people disconnecting to server hop: Locations saved to local server rather than hive. Problems solved. You want to play on another server, you start at a starting location.

What happens to the military when some fifteen year old hacks into nuclear silos and nukes the entire planet just to piss people off? Then your precious militaries are just standing around on a beach with a flashlight and a single bandage, maybe a bottle of Tylenol... You'd like to think you could just grab a boat and go live on an island, but both boats in the world have already been taken by the people living on the islands, and you're not a part of their tribe, so if you try swimming out there or building a raft, you're just going to get yourself shot. Not to mention the fact that if you attempt to swim out to an island, you're most likely going to drop all of your food and sodas... You better join a tribe ASAP. I'm not so sure you're ready for the real zombie apoc if it hits...

Your player should just remain in-world when you log off. Problem solved. No one should be logging off, anyways. You're not going to be allowed to "log off" when the real zombie apocalypse comes just because you need t sleep, or get some food, or go to work...

My suggestion is to rework tents so that when they are flattened, all the loot goes on the ground instead of poofing. If that becomes too much of an issue, then I would suggest them being indestructible is better than how they currently work. I'll admit. It was amusing as hell flattening people's camps after I took the few items I wanted, knowing they'd most likely rage when they got back. And when it happened to my clan's camps, I was able to brush it off as part of the game. However, the ease of destroying someone's camp doesn't match the difficulty of building it. Here's my reasons for desiring this suggestion: 1) It's a bit more realistic. Hitting a camping tent with an ATV will not destroy everything within it. 2) If they cannot be destroyed, then people who find the camps may have to make multiple runs. This could lead to interesting conflicts as clans find people scavenging their campsite. 3) Obviously, your FAL most likely will be gone, but having those 4 maps and cooked meat you had stashed away for friends who tend to have to respawn a lot gives you something to rebuild with (in b4 carebear comments). There's tons of other minor points I could make to support this suggestion, but those are the primary. To summarize, if all items were not destroyed with a tents destruction, it would be more realistic, could help generate territorial conflicts, and help justify the time it takes to build a camp site and stock up on items.

Tips for finding a friend when we've both spawned far away?
Garful replied to ABORT's topic in New Player Discussion
EASIEST WAY: When you both log in, it will let you know what area you have zoned in at. It will be in the bottom right hand corner of your screen and look something like: Day 0 Chernarus Cap Golova Find a map you like on the internet. I prefer something easy like: http://ttp2.dslyecxi.com/images/chernarus_big_hq.jpg Day Z will start you on the coast. Based on your starting zones, stay on the waterfront and each of you head in the appropriate direction to find each other. If your friend started to the East or North, keep the ocean on your right; West or South, keep it on your left. DIFFICULT METHOD (BUT FASTER): Based on your spawn point (zone), analyze the out-of-game map and choose an inland spot that is somewhat equadistant. Judge the path by using the shore or a road to angle yourself. Move along that angle and use major landmarks (cities, roads or powerlines) to update you on your progress. -
You can't hold a flare because its a beacon for bandits and zombies alike, yet you can't travel at 1.0 gamma and brightness without holding a flare. Then again, if they make it so you can barely see at Gamma and Brightness 1.0, then people will just start pumping Gamma and Brightness up to the max to have the biggest advantage. I kinda like how Rocket has it now. Set it so low that people have to turn things to max to even move. You're then somewhat assured that the playing field has been leveled.

Most likely, rocket can't take cash because of his employment with BI. He might get into trouble if he accepts money for a mod he is developing, based on a game done by his current employer. That being said, I'm definitely one of the people that would love to donate cash or equipment to this cause.
