Goodbye KoS = Crafting: Cannot chamber/load magazine with ruined ammunition
Hutch (DayZ) replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
Do you even read bro? No difference means no players will change their behavior. Or at least not enough to make a difference. Those who kill on sight now will continue to do so because they are doing it for sport or for defense. Ruined items don't matter. At least not enough to make a difference. Which is the primary reason most people KoS, therefore most people have no reason to change. Ergo, KoS will not go away. The game will not change in any significant way. -

It's not black and white dude, that's just the way it is. Anyone who's been playing long will understand. KoS is not about taking their stuff, it's about self defense or simple sport. Are there some people who mainly kill to gather resources? Probably. Will those people now stop killing because the loot will be ruined? No. Smart players will rob you and then shoot you or leave you naked. Others will simply go for the head shot or they will pray and spray as always and pick through what spoils remain usable if any. Base on my experience, this will not change a single players behavior. It will just cause more griping on the forums about how items shouldn't be ruined if I shot him in the legs. -

Hutch (DayZ) replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
Not. When I KoS, it has nothing to do with getting what they have. If they do happen to have something I need, that's just a bonus. Mainly it's about preventing them from killing me. Eliminating the threat. I usually don't even risk looting them, I just reposition quickly in case someone else heard the shot. Getting what you need in this game is easy. Even with the reduced loot recently I can find what I need to get and stay healthy without interacting with other players. Getting a gun is harder but If I have one then I probably already have everything else I need. If I don't have one I won't be KoSing anyway. To put it simply, People don't KoS just to take what you have, so it will make no difference. -
It's all explained in detail here ... https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9YSGX22B6Z3k9-hJzJcz4w/videos You need to be hydrated and energized for 20 minutes to get the "Healthy" status. When Healthy, Blood regenerates first and when that's full health regenerates. Depending on your water and energy levels it can regenerate at 1 or 3 per second. Best to check out those Merino videos if you haven't seen them yet. Since those videos were made, the stomach capacity has been modified a patch or two ago and this patch lets you know when your water and energy levels are high by giving you the "Hydrated" and "Energized" status indicators. Though I'm not sure yet if anyone knows what levels those indicators come on at. The Healthy status indicator was previously stuck so that once you got it, it would never turn off. So even if your water and energy levels dropped to below healthy levels and the healing effect stopped, the indicator would remain until you got a replacement indicator such as "Sick" to overwrite it. Not sure if that was fixed or not but I wouldn't count on it, so don't trust the "Healthy" status, just make sure you're hydrated and energized.

The best thing to listen to is ambient sounds, turned way up. If you're listening to music, you can't hear me sneaking up behind you.

Constant PVP ruins the fun of this game
Hutch (DayZ) replied to wuffi (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
You think this way because you're new to the game. Anyone who's played for a while knows how boring the game would be without the threat from other players. I. beats A.I. every day. If this game were PvE only, you'd play for a week and be done. -
What does the SOUND SOURCES options in the settings do?
Hutch (DayZ) replied to randmanq's topic in General Discussion
I thought it had to do with 3D positional audio and how many simultaneous sounds can be played from different positions. But, I could be wrong. -
Will there be a reward system for characters that survive?

Beards. The longer you live, the longer your beard. -
Character Died from 5ft drop (estimate)

Well it was an idea. Check out these videos if you haven't seen them yet. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9YSGX22B6Z3k9-hJzJcz4w/videos They explain how the new health system works. Blood level vs health level vs energy level etc.. -
Character Died from 5ft drop (estimate)
Hutch (DayZ) replied to TiptonSamurai's topic in General Discussion
It's in your video settings. Most people turn it off because they don't like having a blurry screen when they are injured. Or because it causes too much of a performance drop. -

Hutch (DayZ) replied to TiptonSamurai's topic in General Discussion
My first thought is that you were probably already very low on health and close to death. But you couldn't tell because you have post processing turned off. Health isn't just blood like it was in the mod. You could have full blood, no color loss but your health could still be close to zero and you would have no way of knowing since the only indication is blurry vision. If you have post processing turned off, you won't see that and your character will behave normally in every way even if you have only 1 health point left. -
This time around I decided to try something different... - Civilian clothes and weapons only. No Military gear. No Cammo. Avoid military bases. - No Sneaking. Walk upright, in the open, weapons holstered or slung. Sneaking around with a weapon out is suspicious and provocative. - Do not shoot civilian targets on sight. Walk (don't run) with empty hands and greet them. Do not engage unless threatened. - Players wearing military gear are considered a threat and will be avoided or engaged if safe to do so. I know walking in the open and talking to players first will probably get me killed more often than not, but I don't mind. I've tried it the other way and survival is easy and boring. My theory is that behaving in a non threatening manner will actually minimize the risk of other players shooting on sight and provide more chances for player interaction.

My new play style and rules of engagement
Hutch (DayZ) replied to Hutch (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
So, my first encounter didn't work out so well. As expected. I wasn't being careful since I was geared and healthy and didn't mind getting killed. Saw a couple of guys looting near coast road on the north end of Berezino. I walked up friendly at the gas station, weapons holstered, hand raised in greeting. They saw me coming so I didn't surprise them. I said "Hey There" in voice chat. I got a return "Hi", a moments pause, then a bullet to the head. Oh well what did I expect. At least I know for sure I was killed by an Ass and not just a friendly who was scared I would shoot first. Now I get to start again which is always fun. Last time I got to healthy status in less than an hour. I'll time myself this time and see if I can beat my time the next time I get killed. I'll probably amend my rules of engagement to observe from a distance before approaching. -
I was thinking it would be interesting if your character grew a beard after surviving a certain length of time. It would give other players an indication of how long your character has survived. After 5 days or a week you'd get some short stubble. Another week and you'd have a short beard A month and you get a medium full beard. A few more months, it turns into a full Duck Dynasty long beard.

It is survivable, IF you are well fed and healthy at the start and have water to stay hydrated.

Canned foods also contain water. For more details, See ... https://www.youtube....hJzJcz4w/videos

Hunger (in game) indicates you are low on energy, not an empty stomach. Soda provides ~142 Energy, ~330 Water and fills 165ml of your stomach capacity. For more details, See ... https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9YSGX22B6Z3k9-hJzJcz4w/videos

You Can in Arma 2 and 3. The engine models material penetration based on wall material, projectile caliber, velocity, range, angle of hit and other factors. So you can shoot through a wall, or the corner of a building and hit a target on the other side. Does it work in DayZ SA? I'm assuming so since ballistics modeling is part of the core of the engine but I haven't been able to test it myself. Has anyone been able to test this in DayZ yet? I have a feeling many players complaining about wall hacks and other exploits are simply getting shot through the wall or floor by players who know how. I'm pretty sure I got shot through the floor once.

I've been geared up and "Healthy" for a couple of weeks now. I tried to break up the boredom by looking for other players but it hasn't gone well. Hunting flashers in the dark on military bases is, well, un-satisfying. Looking for fresh spawns to help out turns out to be harder than I thought. I haven't been able to find many. Team up with other players? Well, you know how that ends up. So lately I find myself deliberately logging into High Pop servers and running into dangerous areas so I can get myself killed and start over. But it would seem these "dangerous" areas aren't all that dangerous. Or I have really bad timing. I've spent several days now on high pop servers skulking around Cherno, Balota, Chapaevsk and the other apartment areas in that vicinity looking for other players to engage. I've run into a few survivors but they either combat logged or didn't survive the encounter. It's not in me to suicide, I need to go out in battle. So I remain alone and despondent in the cold dark, looking for someone to end my miserable existence.

My guess is that someone in your area is wearing it and comes in range of your network bubble which tells your game client to load it but the file it's looking for is missing. Or it could just be sitting on the ground somewhere in your network bubble.

What happens when you clean a damaged or badly damaged gun? Why would you clean it if it's pristine? I would expect that it would reduce the damage on a gun from damaged to worn and when you use it on pristine it resets it to worn.

Where the hell do I report a bug?

Possible new (?) hack ? (Shooting trough walls)
Hutch (DayZ) replied to gsp167's topic in General Discussion
Back to the original topic. It's not cheating or hacking to shoot through walls. You can shoot through walls in real life. The game takes the wall construction into account. I didn't do the testing myself but I've seen some data on wall penetration in the Arma 2 & 3 engine. Bullets don't go through concrete but they do go through wood and tin walls. Penetration depends on the gun and/or bullet caliber. I once got shot from below through the floor in the military jail building.
